Andavari, are those ones you mentioned better then any paid for versions of this kind of software? I have Youruninstaller (an older version) that i have been using for awhile now, was just wondering how it measured up.....

Do you guys really think xp is better? I had a 1 gb ram, 2 gb processor in my xp system, vs the 2 gb ram 2 gb process in my vista system (and a 4 gb ram and 2.66 gb processor in my vista 64 bit system) and didn't notice any speed difference. As well, before xp, micro$oft would always put out a system every two years or so, so this is pretty much on time for what they have always done other then with xp. my 64 bit vista system is every bit as fast as my old xp, probably faster. i would say the 32 bit system is about the same speed. I think the only big problem with vista at this point is that there is ZERO reasons to upgrade/downgrade from xp. it simply doesn't offer anything that xp doesn't have (except the annoying UAC which i disabled as fast as i could) and not worth spending money on. If micro$oft wants to put out a quality system, they have to either a) add a lot of really awesome features that will make people want to switch, or make a really slimmed down system that is sleek and fast and modern. But MikeW makes a good point. If a new system is coming out this year you may want to wait if you are thinking of upgrading. I certainly wouldnt pay for a vista upgrade at this point.................but to be honest, i wouldn't pay for an xp downgrade (upgrade?) on a new system either.

WOT didn't show any problems.........as well the mcaffee site shows that all downloads are clean.......i think that mcaffee makes a lot of assumptions in their analysis of websites......

I don't think either is really better to be honest. Vista seems to use more ram, but the systems nowadays all have more ram so it's really a non issue. i can't think of hardly any software that doesn't work with vista at this point so it's not a deal breaker either. XP is obviously a tried and true system and it has been around long enough that everyone has explored all the little secrets and stuff in it, but for everyday stuff, like watching movies, listening to music, surfing, burning music, using software, etc......i haven't noticed a difference. we just get used to things and don't like change. and really vista isn't bad at all, it was just mostly unneeded as it didn't bring any improvements over xp that were worth the upgrade. but if you are buying a new system, you won't notice a difference.

I actually love vista. did a reinstall of xp on my laptop awhile back and i ended up going back to vista. once windows 7 comes out ill get another laptop, give this one to the kiddos and give it a shot.

I saw it an knew that the mods would deal with it as they always do, and always do appropriately. We are actually quite lucky to have such a helpful bunch of members, and such active and helpful moderators on this site. You mods are always on top of things, and very good at keeping this site as a friendly, peaceful, thoughtful place to exchange ideas, get help with our computers, and to make new friends. I think each and every moderator was an excellent choice and provides a different angle for keeping this a great site. Thanks guys, you deserve a pat on the back for what you all do. This would be a spam/fighting fest in no time without you.

hey all, sure this is a dumb question and yes i did a bit of googling, but then i kno you all have the answers pretty quick usually. is there a way in xp (and vista actualy) to set it up so that once you start the computer it doesnt go to the sceen with the admin account and any other accounts before entering the system? What I am looking for is to make a shared desktop to, once started, to automatically go the home page with only one account, not need any sort of login or passwords, just turn on and windows comes up and ready to go. any little tweak that i am missing that does this? i am at a bit of a loss.....

Hey guys, I did a reinstall of my mother in laws desktop (it was a total mess) and I can't seem to get the sound working. I used the OEM windows disk, everything set up fine and such, but it doesn't seem to be recognizing the sound card and/or finding the drivers. I did back up all drivers so i have em, but don't know which driver (there are a ton) should be installed, or how to do it. Question. Which program out there would help me find out the sound card type, and then how to find which sound drivers I need? I think i am close, but so far not a go..... Thanks guys!
