    Themes

I read that a few times but I installed both those themes tonight and they look really different to me. Zune seems to have gray/black look. Royale Nior has a Midnight blue (purplish) look. Also the place I down loaded the Royale Nior from also included the blue version of it . So when you go into Display Properties/ appearance tab/ in the color scheme field there is the option to select the black or blue version. Also I didn't need to patch the UXtheme.dll. I just unzipped it to the themes folder and it works well. Some sites had a modified version and you needed the patch to use it. One thing though is that the theme is not visible in the Display Properties/Theme drop down list. You have to go into the folder and click on luna.msstyles and that launches the Display Properties dialog. Than once you make the adjustments you want and set the wall paper save that set up and that set up will be in the drop down list.

It must have been fixed because I installed Zune tonight and it works perfectly and all the files/folders are already set up the way rridgely suggested in that post.

OK no problem. Did this problem start just after you downloaded the Royale Noir theme? Do I understand the problem correctly? You could select themes from Windows desktop properties drop down list but you could not go into the file directly and activate the theme? Is that right?

  7. OK. Once the patch is installed/applied can you still use the default XP theme or do you have to unpatch again to use it?
  8. Thanks for that link to the patch. Any possible problems using that I should know about before hand? Is it reversible?
  9. Got a link for the autopatcher?
  10. I like black themes. I have black themes for all my browsers. I never bothered to install a theme for the desktop though because I don't mind the default XP theme and I don't want to install the third party stuff that many themes need to work on Windows. I like to keep things light on the resources. That black theme doesn't need any (so it says). Do you just install this is Windows/resources/ themes and it shows up in the list of themes? Or is there more to it than that?
  11. Anybody use this theme? Apparently it's an official Microsoft theme. http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061029/royale-noir/
  12. Personally I find spell check as you type (in line spell checking) very annoying. I want to type my post or whatever I'm typing than check the whole thing. I ignore words that are marked as mistakes that I don't want to change and correct the ones I do want to change. The red lines popping up under the words while I type throws me off. The Google Tool Bar and IE Spell are also the most accurate in my opinion. If I misspell a word 99% of the time those two spell checkers have the correct word to replace it with. I find Firefox's in line spell check to be the least accurate. Many times with slightly misspelled words it doesn't have the correct word available to replace it with.
  13. My favorite spell checker of all the ones I have is the Google Tool Bar Spell checker. I have Aspell, IE Spell, IE7 Pro, Firefox built in spell check, and Google Tool Bar. The Google Tool Bar is the best IMO. SOL for using it with Opera.
  14. Well you have me interested now.
  15. You need to be in a field with some text you entered like a forum or something similar than right click and select "check spelling". A dialog pops up that is very similar to IE Spell. Also it has been mentioned by me and others that this forum messes up some spell checkers Aspell in Opera is one of them. Try it out on another site and see if it works. It will work on this site if you use the "fast reply" option. It doesn't work if you use the "add reply" option or quote somebodies post. That is my experience with it. Firefox's in line check does not work properly either on this site. If a different browser than IE7 with a spell check is what you want try Firefox to. It has it built in for you.
  16. What problems did you have with Aspell. It works perfectly for me on all machines. Make sure you download this Aspell http://aspell.net/win32/ and a dictionary from the same site . They are just down the page a little. This a tutorial of how to use user js in Opera if you decide to stay with Ospell. http://www.opera.com/support/tutorials/userjs/
  17. The highly rated NOD32 AV has a online scanner that detects and removes malware. Requires IE because it's Active X. http://www.eset.com/threat-center/cac.php
  18. You need to install Aspell to the default location. Than install a dictionary to the default location. Opera should detect Aspell. It will be in the right click context menu when you right click.
  19. I always thought I wasn't all there. Now I know it's not all in my head. I really am not here.
  20. Some of those antirootkit apps are very technical and you have to be careful what you remove with them. I have chosen to go with the Panda and Blacklight programs. Not many options with these just run the exe. press the scan button. No install needed. If something gets detected I will Google it or go to some of the forums who have the experts to help me. I will use these like I use Highjackthis. Run it get the results and post the log for an expert to examine.
  21. Enter about:config in the address bar of Firefox. It will take you to it. Once there you will see hundreds of entries listed alphabetically. Instead of going through them all just type Yahoo Tool Bar in the search box and it will list all entries there for it. If there are any right click them and select reset.
  22. Another thing I do when removing an extension in Firefox is go into about:config and find any entries left behind. There will be some if you make any changes to the extension in it's options. When you find any entries in about:config right click and select "reset". Restart Firefox and those entries will be gone.
  23. I stopped using the GUI. I wasn't using any of the options on it. I just left it at Analyze, fix up, fast optimization and ran it. That is the default for JK Defrag so I just use it now.
  24. Wow. What did you have System Restore set at for disk space to use?
  25. That is interesting. The "optimize hard disk when idle" actually un optimizes ( is there such a word ) the disk. I guess Tweak UI is going in.
