  1. Yes, but you should proceed with caution when tinkering with the registry. Always do a backup copy first. For thoroughly removing applications I would suggest using some application like Revo Uninstaller or such.
  2. Thanks. Somewhat I guessed that as there is no mention in the what's new list.
  3. Hello. I tried Ultradefrag 5.0.2 yesterday for comparing purposes against Defraggler. It has a nice Quick Optimization feature that works quite well and fast. I'd love to see that in Defraggler (I think I already asked for this in the DF suggestions subforum). On the other hand, Ultradefrag GUI is ugly as hell. Ultradefrag also put two files at the root folder of every partition. Annoying. Anyway, it seems a mature product that does its work and it's free. Not bad.
  4. Yeah, probably some minor bug somewhere. I agree that Defraggler regular defragmentation isn't the fastest of the batch.
  5. I second that. I always defrag on a per-file basis. Much faster and some files can even be excluded from defragmenting. I am not using common defrag anymore because I have an issue with it: it tends to shuffle ALL DATA around, even if there is little fragmentation and on some partitions it takes ages to complete.
  6. Ah. Sorry for misunderstanding. Yep. Same here. I think it's imperative for DF to work that way...
  7. I wouldn't go defragmenting a phone card anyway.
  8. I have an almost 15 years old HP Laserjet 1200. Cartridges last about 1500-3500 pages average (the high capacity one) and they cost about 60 € here in Spain. I strongly advise no matter what brand you choose to have one that have the most built-in page descriptor languages (PCL5, PCL6, PS). It will make things easier. Do not get a GDI printer only.
  9. If it's a feature rather than a bug it could be toggled on/off via a configuration setting. Otherwise, I do not understand its use.
  10. Thank you very much. I was aware the winsxs folder kept growing up.
  11. Thanks Hazel. It's nice to have a lightweight portable version to test out.
  12. Disable autorun. It's unsafe and annoying. That's my two cents.
  13. Same here with a new Intel mainboard (sandy bridge) with SATA hard-disk. Same HD was okay on the older mainboard (nForce 6.x chipset).
  14. Full defrag mode (DEFRAG) can be quite slow, specially with big partitions because it shuffles data a lot. I would advise to manually defragment files from the flie list tab. After analysing, go to file list tab and put a check mark on the first tickbox for selecting all files shown or just defragment what you want. Keep in mind that this mode WON'T FILL GAPS. It just defragments files (and folder entries if you have that option enabled in configuration). The other advanced options for forcing filling gaps (defragment free space) are both bugged and will introduce a lot of fragmentation more. Use them with caution.
  15. I have used the fsutil sometime. I was just wondering about defragmenting metadata. I will try deleting it to see what happens. Best regards.
  16. Hello. I wonder if Defraggler is able to defrag $UsnJrnl:$J located at C:\$Extend on my system drive. I am asking because that's the only file that appears as fragmented on Defraggler drive map (red block). I think I ran a boot time defrag yesterday but the same file remains fragmented. Any ideas? PS - I am running W7 x86
  17. I was an Opera user a long time until I grew tired of not being compatible with a few pages which the programmers didn't seem to care.
  18. Good. Something new is learned everyday. Thanks for your info, everyone. I didn't know those registry strings.
  19. It is intended to be that way. I think you cannot change that behaviour.
  20. I have had this issue several times under W7 x86. It seems some other defraggers/software will corrupt defrag schedule on registry. Try deleting contents of: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\Microsoft\Windows\Defrag\ScheduledDefrag But always make a registry backup before touching it.
  21. Also, do not mistake Steam's GCF internal fragamentation vs regular file fragmentation. GCF files could be physically defragged on disk but internally fragmented. I think OP issue is laying elsewhere. Hardware failure?
  22. I would go with NTFS too. Smaller cluster size and security enhancements.
