  1. VSS = Volume Shadow Copy Service Information about VSS on Wikipedia Best regards.
  2. Hi all. The topic says it all. Many people is complaining that DF takes a huge amount of time to do "a simple defrag". I guess most people is hitting the defragment button after analysing a partition (obvious, isn't it?). I am aware some users prefer to defragment from the file list (defragmenting even individual files). But this course of action could not be so obvious for most people, so why not performing a Quick Defrag by default when using the DEFRAG button or, ar least, showing a warning pop up saying that common DEFRAG also consolidates all space and it may take up a lot of time to complete?. Best regards.
  3. Are you just hitting the DEFRAG button after ANALYSING a partition? Don't do that because DF tends to fully consolidate all space alongside defragmenting. This can take up a huge amount of time to complete, even for small sized partitions. Many users prefer to defrag individual files from the FILE LIST (selecting the first tick box selects all by the way). Also keep in mind that Windows internal Defragmenter excludes a lot of things even for its report. It doesn't take into account SVI files for instance and It doesn't even bother to defragment some other files. So its defragmentation report isn't accurate at all. There are also some settings under Defraggler configuration that allow you to exclude some files and even stop VSS that tends to create huge restore points prior to defragment and thus increases the perceived amount of fragmentation reported.
  4. The remaining time shown isn't accurate at all. It changes a lot when running DF. DF is probably recalculating it as needed.
  5. Yeah the bootup device selection screen varies from bios to bios. Some are invoked taping ESC key; others using some function key: F8 (Asus), F12 (my Gigabyte), F11 (Asrock). They are probably a plethora of combinations. Some bios even doesn't acknowledge the existence of a shortcut for bringing out the BBS menu.
  6. Did you read and follow the link Noddles posted? That's strange.
  7. Agreed to what Andavari said. People usually don't pay attention to installation options. I always choose "custom" if available. That's why some regular users have so many third-party "crapware" installed even without knowing.
  8. Yes, you will lose your restore points, unfortunately.
  9. Have you tried disabling System Restore temporarily before running DF? You could do that for testing purposes.
  10. Hmm. Piriform web page seems to be down. I better get it from filehippo. Good work!
  11. This is a known issue. Currently Defraggler DOESN'T WORK for partitions bigger than maybe 1.5TB+
  12. Latest Firefox version is 13.0.1 Latest Crap Cleaner version is 3.19 You should definitely upgrade both programs if applicable.
  13. I am going to give it a whirl. Thanks Hazel.
  14. Good to hear 2.10.424 is performing nice for you. Regards.
  15. Ultradefrag can defrag the MFT. I hope Piriform will include this sometime in a future version because Defraggler is my main defragmenter.
  16. Thank you very much for clarifying things up Hazelnut and Login123 I usually run it when downloaded from Windows Update. Best regards.
  17. Why the need for MSRT when you have MS Security Essentials installed? I don't get it...
  18. I can confirm that the version Coffee4Joe posted [2.10.424] (gotten from Piriform) has solved the boot time defrag issue.
  19. Interesting. I may have some issues.
  20. This is a known issue. It will be resolved with a new release.
  21. I cannot confirm that. Been defraggling for two days now and everything is running pretty good on my rig as usual. The OP issue must be somewhere else.
  22. It sounds risky at least for novice/inexperienced users but +1
