  1. Boot Time Defrag . . . . defrags pagefile.sys Windows locks hibernation from defragging. But you can cycle hibernation off, defrag drive, cycle hibernation back on. Cycle hibernation off and on with MS Fixits 50466 and 50462. or ► Start\ Accessories\ CommandPrompt\ Run as Administrator To turn OFF type powercfg -h off To turn ON type powercfg -h on
  2. Nothing wrong with the build that would cause this. Pay no attention to the shade of red (fragged or fragged-low occ). Any frag is frag. I may be able to help with a little more info from you. After analyzing, in File List, click Path to sort. In the Path column, do you see System Volume Information listed?
  3. I presume somebody had to program the figure-8 and pass-thru-window sorties.
  4. Do you have all these ☑ ticked? . . . Help me. If you don't access (D:) why bother defragging it, cos the purpose of defragging is to speed access? I never defrag backups; they are too important to mess with.
  5. jawohl . . removing some dupes will not improve performance but may create issues; so risk outweighs reward.
  6. So naughty of you. We savvy readers are not supposed to know that alternates exist.
  7. That means they are too messed up/unusable. And many files will show as Excellent but I never believe it cos they are damaged, text is garbled, you gotta hunt for an application, etc. You can have Recuva right-click and overwrite individual or a group of files. In List view you can sort the files by clicking the heading State, right-click and overwrite. Set the overwrite passes in Options\ General\ Advanced\ Secure overwriting. I use only 1-pass . . 3-passes don't overwrite much better, takes 3 times longer. Sometimes Recuva can't overwrite but not to worry, just leave 'em and soon they'll be overwritten by routine computer use.
  8. Right click and save this image to your desktop, then upload to coolutils and convert to ico, save to Downloads folder. Right click corrupt icon\ Properties\ Shortcut\ Change icon\ Browse\ Downloads\ cc4_256\ OK\ Apply.
  9. After running CCleaner run Recuva to see if you can resurrect anything.
  10. After defrag, Analyze\ File list, click Size to sort. Briefly, what's the names of the largest skipped files?
  11. Try CCleaner - Slim . . . http://www.piriform....ccleaner/builds same program, no Chrome option.

  16. Very good, that will do. You can't use it from CCleaner, you gotta use from Windows, so there must be some way you can run it in Windows. In System Protection\ Protection Settings, OS[C](System) should show protection as On.* Then clicking on System Restore\ Next should show the restore points. Select the most recent, preferably. Like Hazel said, you gotta run as admin. I'm always admin on mine, ensure you are on yours. *Edit: DO NOT turn it off, cos that will lose all your restore points.
  17. In CCleaner\ Tools\ System Restore, are any points listed?
  18. We'll have to wait for advice from other members. Patience.
  19. This is a recurring issue for which I have no immediate fix. We'll wait for help from another member.
  20. In Start\ Control Panel\ System\ System Protection\ System Restore, click on System Restore button and proceed.
  21. Your registry is backed up in System Restore. Do you have a Restore Point you made beforehand?
  22. Do you have a Restore Point you made before the issue?
