  1. I would tend to agree. I don't think this feature necessarily goes with CCleaner's purpose. I would see this feature being more useful in Defraggler in my opinion. But with new features, come questions and users who have never dealt with those features. Hopefully, if the developers do decide to keep the feature in CCleaner, with a little time, we can educate everyone on what wiping free space does and the expectations that come along with it. Keith
  2. I use it and I scan their computer when I am working on their computers... But trying to get these people to do anything, let alone scan for vulnerabilities would be impossible. We can't get them to update their virus definition files Keith
  3. Security bulletin for Adobe 9.1 Looks like it's a needed update. The only reason I care about Adobe is because we use Reader/Acrobat here at work so I have to support it for my clients and flash player because it's used across most of the web. Other than that, I use Foxit at home :|
  4. HAHA!!! YoKenny is our personal beta tester. I am always weary of MS updates now since the whole fiasco with KB951748/KB956803 and Zone Alarm/Checkpoint Security firewalls. It would not let you get on the internet through IE if you had those updates installed.
  5. I hate the way they package AIR, adobe.com, and Adobe Reader together... I don't want all that crap so why force it on me I have never even took the time to see what AIR does, but I know I don't want it installed with Reader!!!
  6. New version 9.1 released on filehippo.com today, yet there are no security bulletins or advisories on Adobe's page that reference anything about 9.1... Kind of strange isn't it? Keith
  7. matttye, I would say daily is definitely overkill. If you do a lot of editing, saving, deleting, and moving of files, I would say to defrag daily. If not, you can get away with going 2 weeks if not a month before truly seeing serious improvements from a defrag. Just my opinion! Keith
  8. That might be the reason he made another account
  9. I just tested every section of CCleaner ver 2.17.853 on my desktop (specs in signature) and it cleans every section that has something to be cleaned. :/ Hope this helps the cause! Keith
  10. Is it a batch file or actual code? I'd like to see it if it's a batch file. I too deal with user's computers who have 4-5 profiles on average and it tends to get tedious logging into each account to clean our the TIF files. Usually the viruses are harbored on the other inactive profiles that were used once or twice. Keith
  11. Sorry to hear that Xion! I'm glad you are okay. Take care and get well soon!!! Keith
  12. It's easy pickens when users refuse to update their operating systems, anti-virus/malware programs, and surf with no regard of security and saftey.
  13. bennie, You might want to take a peak here: Command-line parameters Keith
  14. Thanks for the heads up YoKenny! We are dealing with the W32.Downadup.B variant on our network currently. We have seen remnant files from this virus show up on users' computers who have not been patched with the KB958644 update. We have not seen the full blown virus on their computers though because Symantec/our firewall seems to pick up on the executables and either blocks them or quarantines them. However, this may change soon if the variant gets here before the definition files do. Keith
  15. Have you changed versions of Internet explorer or changed the settings inside of IE? CCleaner cleans the files, but does not change the settings of IE. It should still show up as long as you have not made any other changes. Keith
  16. Agreed. I did my signature over and although it isn't as pretty and techno as the CPU-Z ID info, it still does the job
  17. I see what you are referring to. I am not sure though and am quite curious now what it is cleaning in the registry. I'm sure a develop or maybe even a smarter person than myself can answer that for us Keith EDIT: Woops, Nergal answered and after testing his answer, he is correct. It deletes the last location information.
  18. I know you are trying to be helpful but his CPU might not be the reason why it's taking so long to defag. This could be a bug. How long is "forever"??? I would recommend gaining some free space though. 15GB of free space is pretty low on any hard drive. Keith
  19. Nice work DJpailo. I wish I could draw and in particular, do computer graphics to help with my web design but unfortunately I can't.
  20. Tornado, It does. When you hit "analyze", look at the list of files it pulls up. CCleaner is user specific though, meaning it will only clean those files from the active user account that you are logged into. Hope this helps! Keith
  21. So, I don't know if you guys know, but I do computer helpdesk work for a living. I have been doing it for almost a full year now. Yesterday, a user called up saying they couldn't access their thumb drive. This is not out of the ordinary as we have several network drives that take up drive letters, preventing thumb drives from being recognized. Usually changing the drive letter in Disk Management does the trick. However, this incident was different. When the user inserted the thumb drive into the port, autoplay would come up and she could open the folder through that method. However, if she closed the window and tried to open or explore the drive from My Computer later on, it would pull up a "Open With" window, but would never allow her to save it as "Always use the selected program" with windows explorer (what I used). So, I knew at this point, something was wrong. And my first assumption was that there was an autorun.inf file causing problems. But it was hidden as a protected operating system file. Upon unhiding and opening the autorun file, it referenced a random exe file name m9ma.exe and had all sorts of gibberish in it. I knew at this point that this was some sort of malware. I looked throughout the drive for that executable file but could not find it. So I figured Symantec might have detected and removed it. And it did, it was in Symantec's quarantine from earlier in the day when she first tried to use the thumb drive.. It recognized the virus as W32.Gammima and quarantined it appropriately. However, the autorun file itself was NOT a virus so Symantec did not quarantine it but the file was still causing havoc. To fix this, I deleted the autorun file, removed the thumb drive and inserted back; everything was back to normal. Crazy! Symantec: W32.Gammima Summary
  22. The average user has probably never heard of Acronis or wants to buy another software in addition to Windows just to have something to fall back on.

    How to ?

Welcome to the forums bjm, By default, CCleaner should have been installed to C:\Program Files\CCleaner\. You should be able to nagivate to this directory and run CCleaner from there. You can also then create shortcuts to that file on the start menu and desktop from your user account. Hope this helps! Keith
  24. I feel like I might be one of those people I'll make some changes! Keith
