  1. Doing so now... I'll let you know what I come up with. For reference, this is a Windows XP professional SP2 box. My Windows Vista HDD looks even worse than this and a regular defrag takes forever. Actually I never let it finish because it was at 33% after 2.5 hours. I'll post the SS later when I get home.
  2. You would be wrong. NASCAR is not something I enjoy
  3. Not sure what's going on... But look at my HDD. This is after a defrag with Defraggler. I'm not blaming it on Defraggler by any means but what do you guys make of how the data shows up on the interactive map? Keith
  4. A few days late are we Dennis? Get with the program! Andavari & YoKenny are serving us up to the minute security news and updates!
  5. Just tried to do a defrag on my new Vista laptop after shrinking the volume and then reallocating it back to the same volume and it was taking forever. Free space was scattered throughout on the interactive chart... Defraggler was using 50-60% of the CPU and it was on 33%-34% for more than an hour. I'll post a debug in another thread or here when I get the chance.
  6. I've come across a few mp3s that were infected and felt so lucky that I scan everything before I open/play them. I am pretty sure out of the box, Winamp and WMP can edit the tags...
  7. Just uncheck the box to delete everything???

    RAM

1GB per slot and PC2 6400/800Mhz is the most you can do on your motherboard. I would recommend running the same speed and brand of memory REGARDLESS of what you get... PC5300/667Mhz wouldn't be bad either though. I hope this helps, Keith
  9. Winamp/Windows Media Player usually are able to access the mp3 tags... They contain info about the song that displays it to the player... Like song name, artist, album, genre, etc... Usually a right click and go to properties/info inside the program will allow you to view these tags. Thanks Andavari for the link... It was never confirmed though, is it here where malicious code is stored?
  10. The tags that contain the song's information? Is that where they store the malicious code?
  11. How about using PC Decrapifier? That's what I used for my recently bought Dell laptop and everything works fine. Just be sure you know what you are removing! Hope this helps, Keith
  12. I think lyle was referring to the .Lnk file extension which is basically a link to a file (Windows Shortcut File). .LNK Details here Hope this helps, Keith
  13. Ugg.. Take a look at this Validation from CPU-Z... Memory is supposedly 800MHZ memory but it's running at 667MHZ. Is that the motherboard throttling it down or could it be bad memory? I seriously doubt the latter. Keith
  14. Portable version of 2.16.820 not cleaning "Run" entries.
  15. CCleaner and the BIOS show 2.4 Ghz but CPU-Z is still showing 1.2Ghz most of the time but I guess it is the processor throttling back. All the power options are set to 100% though for min/max processor state. Thanks for replaying back
  16. Processor is supposed to be 2.4Ghz but it's saying 1100, 1500, and 2400 at different times in CPU-Z. I changed the power options to "High performance" so it should be running at full power... Anyone got any suggestions?
  17. Thanks for the reply... But I don't think this has much to do with financing, repairs, or rebates
  18. I might be done buying from Dell. Let me explain. I got the external mouse separately the Monday after I ordered (quick turn around) and the laptop on Tuesday... GREAT! However, it was shipped with the wrong power cord for the AC adapter so I could not charge the battery or turn the laptop on until my girlfriend got in the next day with her laptop and AC adapter. THEN, the very first thing I do is load into the system BIOS and the memory says it's running at 667Mhz. Well, the Outlet store said 800Mhz and so did the invoice they sent me. So I call Dell. The woman who spoke to me said the system says 800Mhz too. After several phone calls and a few hours worth of talking, they told me that the Inspiron 1525 cannot support over 667Mhz. So naturally, I wanted some type of compensation for the false advertising as the memory's speed did play a part in my purchase. They directed me to Customer Care. After being hung up on 3 or 4 times today, I finally got in touch with the "floor manager" and he told me there is no way I can get any type of compensation. That is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. It's their fault, yet I have to live it??? That might be the last Dell I buy.
  19. The normal version on my desktop doesn't seem to clear the start -> run box either. Weird ;( The O/S on this system is Windows XP Professional as well.
  20. Hey all, I just wanted to make you all aware of an issue that I ran into last night with the portable version of CCleaner v2.16.820. I was cleaning my girlfriend's son's computer last night and I had everything checked except for the items in the Advanced area in the Windows tab. It appeared to clean everything as it cleared 850MB of temporary files, etc. Not quite. There were still entries in the start -> run box that were left behind that I would rather see gone so that he doesn't try to use some of those commands; they could cause more harm than good. I double checked that the Run checkbox was checked and it was. Still no dice though. This is the first time I noticed CCleaner not getting everything, whether it be the normal edition or portable edition, but then again, I don't always double check that it cleaned EVERYTHING. I guess I will for now on. Keith EDIT: I guess it would be somewhat important to list some specs. O/S is Windows XP Professional SP3
