  1. If the diagnostics utility says it's defective, speak to the manufacturer immediately and get that thing returned. Who made the drive and what utility are you using?
  2. Something does sound fishy about your setup. Deleting items that startup at boot will help decrease start up time and deleting big files off your desktop would too. I am not sure what the policy is to linking to other forums but there is an awesome forum that helps with malware removal... Mods... Can I post the link?
  3. Like hazelnut said, don't worry about it I'm still learning about the many features of Defraggler AND CCleaner myself
  4. If you open up the Applications tab in CCleaner, under Firefox, is "Saved form information" checked?
  5. Enrique, Firefox's cleaning settings should up under the "Applications" tab then and would fall under the "Saved formed information". Uncheck that and you should be good to go.
  6. To my understanding, when you set a scheduled defrag time, it goes into Windows Scheduled Tasks which can be found in the Control Panel and would run whenever it is scheduled too. Not sure why you would need to leave it always running?
  7. Have you defragged your hard drive lately or scanned for malware? Sounds like you could be infected, not to try to scare you.
  8. That is a good idea as well. Never used the include/exclude/cookies function as I generally dump them all but I will keep that in mind for future cases.
  9. I forgot about Avast! Also noted, I've never used any other A/V outside of AVG. I was thinking about trying some of the others but I know for a fact they are among the most recommended on forums!
  10. Welcome to the forums Enrique, Unchecking the "Autocomplete Form History" under Internet Explorer in the "Windows" tab should prevent your username/passwords from being deleted. I hope this helps. Keith
  11. Glad to hear that. Thanks again Disk4Mat as this taught me something as well!
  12. Not sure if Piriform has developed it's own little registry cleaner for their products but if such a thing existed, that might be the easiest route if blacky is not comfortable playing in the registry. Also, would "CCleaner.exe /AUTO" run in the background without having a icon in the taskbar? That could be the problem. Are you running CCleaner from a shortcut blacky? If so, how about trying to run it directly from the directory it was installed to.
  13. I don't think there's a best per say or one that is going to stop everything from getting in. BUT some FREE recommended A/V programs would be AVG 8, Avira Antivirus, and Antivir. The best way to stay safe against viruses is safe surfing habits. Know what websites to go to and which to avoid, always scan files first after downloading them before opening, and make sure you have a firewall on (Windows Firewall is sufficient if you have a router)
  14. Thank you very much for the information, I will definitely read this.
  15. hazelnut, I don't think he can get into the program to check from what it sounds like. Would cleaning out the registry or changing some registry values help?
  16. Welcome to the forums crzyallday, I assure you, CCleaner is only going to delete what you tell it to. Take a look at Piriform's documentation site for more info on how to use CCleaner. You can set it to only delete temporary internet files for your browser(s) if you want to be cautious. This program is great. But to answer your question specifically, yes, you can save what you are about to delete to a TXT file by right clicking in the area where the files are listed and selecting "save to text file"
  17. Nice thorough review Beermonster You obviously know your way around DOS and batch files ;P
  18. Possible but I think it would depend on how many passes you do. A low-level format might allow you to recover them. Something like a DOD or NSA rated format would probably not yield good results for recovery of your files.
  19. Nice Beermonster, I don't work with batch files as often as I probably could/should but this will definitely help a few people. I wonder if posting how to make a batch file might be helpful? Quick and dirty: Open a Notepad window and copy the code from Beermonster's post. Goto File -> Save As Enter a file name and enter ".bat" at the end of the name Change "Save as file type" to All files
  20. RayD is also having the same issue it seems. Seems to be a compatibility issue with Windows 7. Keep in mind, Windows 7 is Beta and is not officially supported according to the Documentation website Read thread here
  21. I would have never found that. I never searched the CLASSES ROOT HKEY. I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for the help though Disk4mat! I hope this might help you RayD
  22. I think it might help the moderators & developers or anyone else for that matter if you posted what O/S you are using and the version of CCleaner you are using. It could be a bug that needs to be fixed.
  23. I tried what you said in XP SP2 and it worked fine. Then I tried searching the registry for a key relating to this but was unsuccessful. Windows 7 is not fully supported by CCleaner yet so that could be the issue. I'm interested to know if there is a registry location to change this setting though.
  24. I've never used Vista but... And I'll need someone to back me up here... If you had CCleaner delete your "Other Explorer MRUs" in the Windows section under the "Windows" tab, that might clear all of your preferred settings for the desktop. Just an idea. Anyone else got any?
