  1. That and literally take forever to clean. I wouldn't want it, I need my readme.txt files.
  2. If it's something you deleted manually (not while using CCleaner's registry cleaner), and need to undo the damage try a System Restore Point which can restore the registry.
  3. I've always thought antivirus vendors (mainly Avira from several years ago) could've seriously used something like that because their updates (especially program updates) always took forever -- not an issue nowadays as they have much faster and reliable servers. Digital signature(s) alone wouldn't satisfy me though, I'd want at least SHA-256 hashes or higher to verify the files as original and the OS could do this all by itself in the background and auto-reject any that don't match the digital signature and the hash.
  4. Welcome to the forums! See here: http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/troubleshooting/problems-after-you-have-run-ccleaner
  5. The newest daily definition file daily 21361 fixes some of the false positives, but not all of them. If anyone has it configured to automatically quarantine files I'd change it to Report only, and then get a second opinion using VirusTotal.
  6. ClamWin huge false positives with definition file: daily 21358 In ClamWin Portable and ClamWin Free Antivirus you may not want to scan with the definition file daily 21358 installed. Reason being it's producing a huge amount of false positives against most .DLL and .EXE files stating they're infected with: Win.Trojan.Bancos-2115
  7. Rolling back your version of Chrome could be a security risk if they've fixed any vulnerabilities! Chrome can cleanse itself, and as mta mentioned you can also use the incognito switch with Chrome. Just note if you enable it and want to visit the Chrome Store that you'll have to start a process of Chrome normally without using incognito.
  8. Well some of those "tweaks" from say XP aren't even relevant for Vista and newer - such as TCP optimization for broadband, etc.
  9. I don't use Chrome in particular (SRWare Iron here) to know if that's the correct path, start looking around inside of it to see what you find. How I found out what needed excluded was to start poking around by opening any found files with these extensions .LDB and .LOG in Notepad, and was able to see those were my adblocking settings that CCleaner kept nuking -- so it was very easy to figure out they weren't junk and needed excluded, so I excluded the whole folder and now my extension settings are left alone. I don't know what the Chrome paths are, however in the Chromium/Chrome-clone SRWare Iron those files reside in a folder named: Local Extension Settings However any folder with Local or Extension in the name "Extension State", "Extensions" "Local Storage", "Managed Extension Settings", etc., would be alright to also exclude since cleaning software really shouldn't be messing with them anyways.
  10. MVPS.org HOSTS File updated 8 February 2016: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
  11. AnyBurn License: Freeware Supports: Microsoft Windows 2000 and newer (32-bit / 64-bit) Website: http://www.anyburn.com Clean: Currently as of v3.2 it does not include or install any 3rd party junk, it's 100% clean. Overview: AnyBurn is a freeware full featured disc burning program. Available with a Setup program, and as a Portable. Note: The "Portable" version will create application data: (username)\Application Data\anyburn\Upgrade Features: * Burns all CD, DVD, Blu-ray disc image files. * Burns files and folders on your hard drive to CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disc. * Burns Audio CD which can be played in regular CD and DVD players from: APE (lossless), FLAC (lossless), WAV (lossless), MP3 (lossy), WMA (lossy) audio formats. * Burning CD-Text onto Audio CD is supported. * Rip Audio CD to: APE (lossless), FLAC (lossless), WAV (lossless), MP3 (lossy), WMA (lossy) audio formats. Note that it does NOT fill in the Artist, Album, Track Name, Track Number. I recommend instead using a different software for audio CD ripping that will get track information from the Internet so you won't have to manually fill everything in. * Copy disc using sector by sector method. * Create image files from hard disk files or CD, DVD, BD discs as standard ISO or BIN/CUE formats. * Convert disc image files between various formats. It can convert all popular image formats, such as; nrg, mdf, mds, daa, uif, isz, etc. * Adding files using Clipboard, and drag 'n' drop is supported. * Erase all re-writable discs. It supports two erasing methods; Quick Erasing and Full Erasing. * Finalize disc so no further data can be written. Important! * Verify disc after burning. Important! * Eject disc after burning. * View drive or disc information. * Supports both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. My thoughts: I've used it on my XP computer and it burns discs flawlessly and I really appreciate that it has the ability to verify discs after burning them which is a very important crucial feature. I've also used it with success on a Win10 laptop, again it worked flawless. It does not support Plextor PlexTools audio CDs authored/burned with the GigaRec setting, not that I expected it to.
  12. That's an old version of CCleaner, 5.14.5493 is the current version: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
  13. See post 10, go Portable and the issue will never return: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=42073&do=findComment&comment=264978
  14. Ha, ha, you funny. I laugh because that would take forever because I have an XP "tweaks" folder that contains hundreds of little things I do. It isn't just security related either, most of it is found by scouring the Internet and archiving the information learned.
  15. Your extension preferences wouldn't be in the Program Files area. With hidden files and folders made visible look in your user profile folder, that's were the settings would be stored.
  16. If you get any .NET Framework updates installed the following service it what caused XP to take forever to finish updating: .NET Runtime Optimization Service You'll see this process running viable via Task Manager when it's doing its slow evil dance called "optimization": mscorsvw.exe Don't bother trying to stop it, it will just continue on restart if you attempt to thwart it.
  17. Are all of the Firefox processes closed? CCleaner will display a warning that Firefox will be skipped if it's running. You can also see if it's running using WIndows Task Manager.
  18. Reminds me how much I miss Babylon 5, and Farscape.

    SRware Iron

I have the same identical extensions in Iron as I have in Firefox.
  20. If Google Chrome still installs itself into your User Profile area, you'll need to show hidden files to exclude it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files
  21. It doesn't block some stuff that MalwareDomainList does. Of course using more than one different Hosts file means a Hosts manager program becomes a necessity.

    SRware Iron

I also use it the Portable edition, and I too won't use it much longer when Chromium ends XP/Vista support. I've been weening myself off it with Firefox Portable which I also use. At least Firefox is more stable and uses less memory on my system.
  23. There's no options for us when moving here at least using IPB, you have the option to leave a link to the original location but no expiration time limit is available.
  24. I think the forum software is perhaps auto-cleaning itself as I've seen moved posts before with a link still in the improper forum area it was originally posted in. Or someone is doing it. Not me though!
