  1. Umm, While I appreciate you are trying to help, perhaps you need to read the OP's question better Also it is 100% a bad idea for anyone to turn off UAC IMNSHVEO
  2. the Antispy/virus programs run as System but, ccleaner need to run as a user as to clean the users files (and welcome to forum )
  3. however maybe you can tell ccleaner to exclude the files. ? maybe the only way to really find out is to one by one check each entry, clean and see if it deletes, then uncheck that one and check the next one though I'm assume you have "Desktop Shortcuts" Checked off and that is the one doing it
  4. 1) index.dat files are deleted (at system restart) but the system then recreates them (removing them is akin to vacuming them empty)
  5. Bitdefender is telling him CCleaner is a Virus (i believe) If you downloaded CCleaner from this site or from FileHippo (only those two sites) Bitdefender is reporting this falsely. Please contact the makers of Bitdefender and inform them of this error. If you downloaded CCLeaner from any other site, you may indeed have an infection.
  6. Administrator does not equal UAC/Admin privilages. There's not much you can/should do about UAC/ccleaner. I DO NOT EVER recommend turning UAC off (even if you were an advanced user with 40 years of programming experience I would not suggest to you to turn it off)
  7. [Google Earth] ID=2112 LangSecRef=3021 Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth Plus Detect2=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth Pro Default=True FileKey1=%appdata%\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.dat FileKey2=%appdata%\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.dat.index RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus\Search RegKey2=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Pro\Search is what ccleaner is supposed to clean (seen in filekey1 filekey2 and the the reg entries) What seems to be occuring Google has stopped using %appdata% (translates as appdata\roaming) and started to use locallow until such time as the Ccleaner Developers fix this you can add the following to your winapp2.ini (see link in my signature) [*Google Earth for vista and win7 users] ID=2112 LangSecRef=3021 Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth Plus Detect2=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth Pro Default=True FileKey1=%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.dat FileKey2=%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.dat.index RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus\Search RegKey2=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Pro\Search
  8. I don't understand why youy bother with a lot of what you have there 2/5 of what you are cleaning is already cleaned by the embedded Antivir Desktop entry. and 2 more listed are logs, which i would assume most people wouldn't want to clean also, obviously will not work for OP as his PE version is not detected by the dectect you give which is the same as the detect you've put in yours Again the embedded code for Antivir (already cleaned by ccleaner) is [AntiVir Desktop] ID=2138 LangSecRef=3024 Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Avira\AntiVir Desktop Default=True FileKey1=%commonappdata%\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\TEMP|*.* FileKey2=%ProgramFiles%\Avira\AntiVir Desktop|*.old FileKey3=%ProgramFiles%\Avira\AntiVir Desktop|*.tmp FileKey4=%ProgramFiles%\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\FAILSAFE|*.tmp
  9. IS not the same thing as run a Admin You need to use UAC and accept running with admin privilages try to run regedit.exe and do file import
  10. As has been said the billion other times it has been suggested registry defragmenation is a myth. It does nothing and can cause issues computers and not any better for it On point two, why would one need a complete Reg backup via a garbage cleaner? if you want a reg backup use eRunt instead of mucking/bloating ccleaner with a feature most would not use at all or even misuse. Ccleaner does what it does well and does backup the indvidual entries you may wish to remove just incase.
  11. i'm with ident on this one if you want to use another program or both who'd stopping you, if not for your advanced posting status I'd call you a troll with this thread but. . . that's not to say you don't raise good points but who cares. Sorry but meh
  12. Are you still using the old version of antivir? it's hard for anyone not running that version to help you as they'd have to install it in order to find the regentry it would be better to update you sp and the n update your AV and then if still haveing issues come back so we can find the regentry. SP3 has been out for a while and there really aren't any problems with it. though what I'd suggest is download the SP update (don't install yet) download antivir 10 (don't install yet) uninstall antivir 8 install sp install antivir 10 (This may be a silly and useless way to do it. . . but if you are that worried about the sp breaking your computer, though I don't see why, I've updated ~40+ xp computers to sp3 including 1 virtual machine and had 0 issues) If you are unwilling to update Can you at least confirm the existance of FileKey1=%commonappdata%\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\FAILSAVE|*.* FileKey2=%commonappdata%\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\INFECTED|*.* FileKey3=%commonappdata%\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\LOGFILES|*.* FileKey4=%commonappdata%\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\SYSSAVE|*.* FileKey5=%commonappdata%\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\TEMP|*.* FileKey6=%ProgramFiles%\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic|*.old Try to make your detect just Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Avira\
  13. other solution (though I agree with the above) search the forum and you'll find not only people with your problem but us answering this over and over and over again. If WFS doesn't finish 1) newer version of clcean will find and clean the file or 2) find the HUGE file at the root of the drive with random letter for a name Permanently delete it
  14. Didn't work for me (Moderators can you merge the two simular paste suggestions posted today to one thread thx )
  15. +1 (stupid itunes and Acrobat and their desktop icons coming back)
  16. Wait why did you feel it needed to post the entire original ini we all know where to get it anyway. . . the thing with winapp2 is you kinda need to know the reg entry you can't just make up Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic and expect it to work. is that the actual reg key (I'm assuming it may not be as you stated "As for the registry, I have no idea what it contains. I don't even know how to access it to look" . . . OMG can you please remove the original INI from your post the amount of pagedown needed to get past in is extremly annoying /me goes on a rampage elsewhere
  17. ARRRRGGGGG it's almost as if it happens at random !!!! 18. I'm testing the office 2003 entry, it's definitly that entry if you uncheck it, you'll find that the setting stay (if they don't let me know asap) however there are 21 regkeys it is cleaning and I'm having a bit of trouble finding the exact one that is doing it (whenever I think I've found it, it isn't the one) once I have found it you can tell ccleaner to exclude that key in options>exclude
  19. go to OPtions>Advanced put a checkmark in save all settings to ini exit ccleaner open the ccleaner folder you'll see a file ccleaner.ini open it in notepad and copy the contents to this thread (in code tags) from there we should be able to look at it and see what's up or at least where to start
  20. OP is wrong Running Temporary Files on CCleaner 2.29.1111 on a xp sp3completely emptied my %userprofile%\local settings\temp my guess is 1) option to clean only older than 24 hours is selected (options>advanced) or 2) some sort of user error or not running as an admin priviliage account is stopping the proper cleaning CLEANING COMPLETE - (0.024 secs) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.00 MB removed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Details of files deleted ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ System - Temporary Files 1,027 KB 23 files ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\WGAErrLog.txt 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\AdobeARM.log 129 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\applnch.exe 368 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\AUCHECK_CORE.txt 3 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\AUCHECK_PARSER.txt 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\Cookies\index.dat 32 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\English.bin 21 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\IniDecrypt.tmp 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\jusched.log 243 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\product_information12723.xml 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\Xxx\Local Settings\Temp\product_information15272.xml 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\product_information17968.xml 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\srvcfg.ini 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat 144 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\TWAIN.LOG 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\Twain001.Mtx 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\Twunk001.MTX 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\warranty_info12729.xml 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\warranty_info15279.xml 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\warranty_info17975.xml 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\WEP_LogFile.log 1 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\Xerox\l2c_f1b93f58_4dcd55aa.tmp 62 KB C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Local Settings\Temp\~DF6CAF.tmp 16 KB
  21. I didn't even know winapp1 was possible. after some testing I have learned yes, winapp1.ini will tell ccleaner to ignore the winapp that is embedded so my advice to you is 1) Put the changes you want in winapp2 (as aethec suggested) or 2) get the winapp.ini from embedded ini thread rename it winapp1.ini and delete or change what you want deleted or changed
  22. does your registrty contain HKLocalMachine\SOFTWARE\Avira\AntiVir Desktop that is what ccleaner's Antivir entry is looking for to tell it that the program exists
