  1. When you jump to a specific location in a WMA song, doesnt it become a delay? Personally I avoid WMA like if it was the pest. You really should look into Ogg Vorbis superior in quality and compression compared against mp3. http://www.vorbis.com/ http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/ "Ogg Vorbis is a fully open, non-proprietary, patent-and-royalty-free, general-purpose compressed audio format for mid to high quality (8kHz-48.0kHz, 16+ bit, polyphonic) audio and music at fixed and variable bitrates from 16 to 128 kbps/channel. This places Vorbis in the same competitive class as audio representations such as MPEG-4 (AAC), and similar to, but higher performance than MPEG-1/2 audio layer 3, MPEG-4 audio (TwinVQ), WMA and PAC."
  2. Sounds like its complete reinstall...
  3. Sounds really bad. These people gave good suggestions. Next time try to keep better care of your computer security by using a firewall and antivirus (with real-time scanning) and keep it up-to-date at all times. And do a full scanning atleast every month, preferably more often. And use a spyware software that you run atleast every other week. Use Windowsupdate to keep the system up-to-date against the latest security vulnerabilities.
  4. DjLizard, About FreeDOS, it is an interesting project, I have looked some into it before but never really got around to using it. I'll definitly try it out some day. TwistedMetal As for Linspire, it's totaly crap. It's way too commercial. It has this CnR (Click and Run) and it basically wants you to buy every little piece of software from them. No other Linux distribution has ever moved so far away from the Linux freedom. For a GNU/Linux distribution, my choice would be Slackware Linux 10.1 Cursedbythegods, I just ordered a Ubuntu Linux CD from their website and they'll ship it to me, I dont even have to pay anything, not even the shipping. Slackware is great, and you learn alot by using it. It is not difficult to use, it's very easy, configuring X is annoying sometimes though... rridgely, thanks! - Anyone else have any good suggestions, feel free to step forward.
  5. Does anyone know any good registry cleaners? There are tons, I came across many, but then its just demos, or trials that ask after you spent all that time scanning, it asks that you must pay and register to actually remove any entries or that you can only remove 10 entries if you dont pay for it.
  6. Hotmail did in the past allow pop3 connections but now only payed accounts have that feature. There are many email providers offers pop3 or imap support. The best email provider out there is probably Gmail. It's free of cost, over 2 gigabyte mailspace, spam protection, great features such as labels for categorizing email, mark mails with stars for easy find and archiving, Atom feeds (xml), etc.
  7. 8. Thanks for your notification. I'll be sure to get the fixes.
  9. Unfortunaly there are no good firewalls for Windows. They're like toys, blinking buttons and very trivial, to the extent of having a "ON" and "OFF button. You cant really do any defined custom SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) filtering. Most Windows firewalls comes with integrated IDS (Intrusion Detection System) which makes people who use it paranoid because as soon as they see a ping sweep or a random port probe they think someone is trying to hack into their precious computer. If you want a real firewall, you will have to run a hardware firewall, Linux or BSD.
  10. I am glad you are enjoying yourself and having a good time.

    Clean

Thank you for your very informative reply. C:\Documents and Settings\<user_here>\Application Data\ have many old things that I removed ages ago. In my case "Autodesk", "Opera", "Symantec", etc. Maybe it wouldnt be good to scan whole disk for .log and .tmp?

    Clean

Maybe CCleaner should clean .log and .bak and .tmp files Find empty files and empty directories Clean things from C:\Program Files\Common Files\ and C:\Documents and Settings\ Example I installed Norton AntiVirus 2005, but it was crap, so I removed it. But now I still have references to it and Symantec in Common Files and Document and Settings.
  13. CCleaner should just clean the crap from the computer and do it good. It shouldnt have skins, it shouldnt show splash screen, it shouldnt make coffee, it shouldnt let you play a game while it cleans the computer. It should just clean the computer. Skins are crap. Some moron started a trend to put skins on everything ever since Winamp. Sure skins for Winamp is great. But now everybody want skins on their messengers, on their firewall, on their antivirus, on their spyware tools, and everything. KISS = Keep it simple stupid. No damn bloat!
  14. Microsoft want more than just a market share, it want complete market domination. For those who want a free, non-microsoft alternative there is GIMP and Inkscape. http://www.gimp.org/ http://www.inkscape.org/
  15. If it is free or not matters alot, because if it's free then I can download it and have it on my computer. If not, then I'll be forced to connect via telnet to a remote host running it.
  16. Some devices support WPA encryption. WPA encryption is stronger than WEP encryption. WPA on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Protected_Access WEP on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WEP
  17. Greetings. This is a public forum and every member of the forum is allowed to post a reply on the thread, vote on the polls and post new threads. And this is not a democratic where you vote out people. In this thread, I never said anything bad. I made an informative reply, mererly stating that the mentioned virus is an old joke that have circulated in other forms, such as "the amish computer virus" and others. If your Volvo is broken, then it's much better to get a Ferrari for free then try to fix it or get around it.
  18. Since hes not found guilty in court, I hope that hes truly innocent. I saw few minutes of the court thing on TV and it was silly. This mom who was accusing him was a total idiot. She said things like "Neverland Ranch is all about sex, drugs and alcohol", then you can wonder why she let her kids sleep over there... Jay Leno is pretty mean, he makes jokes about Jackson every change he gets, its fun though...
  19. Usurper is free? Darkness is free? The fantasy medival theme is pretty cool and exciting one. Cyberpunk/hacking just might get a little bit too geek. Gangs and drugs are bad! Notify us when you get Usurper running...
  20. Indeed. Fortunately any home computer is not likely to need more than 4 gigabyte RAM anyways (yet). 256-512 is enough for most people. 1024 for those who really want to know they have plenty.
