    New or Old?

Definitly not. Many commercial software become crap because they want to make new version and add new features and it just ends with that they add useless features and bloat and often silly skins that just make the software suck. Winamp 2 is great, then Justin Frankel who created it left Nullsoft/AOL and they made Winamp 3 and Winamp 5 which sucked. ICQ probably was 7+ years ago, now they made it crap. Windows Messenger was something you could live with, but not the new MSN. This is what happends to much software, mostly commercial/propietary software, probably as a result that the creator of it doesnt care about the software and just want to make new release, add more stuff to it and get many as many users as possible.
  2. You can use it as often you want but you dont really need to use it that much. When you go on internet, it puts temporary files that it downloads such as webpages, images, cookies, etc. You dont really need to worry about that or delete it because it wont grow and grow, it can only be the maximum defined size which your browser has it setting at.
  3. I look forward to it. Most sites you can access without Java, Javascript and Cookies.
  4. All Windows firewalls sucks, they're basically toys, often as trivial as having a ON and OFF button. Often combined with a fancy IDS that tend to get people paranoid. Best I've come across is iptables/netfilter on Linux, it's sweet. Because you can configure alot of aspects of it, reject/drop packets, define ICMP type to filter, SYN packet, ip/port/protocol, etc.
  5. I think that Miranda IM is the best. www.miranda-im.org Very light-weight.
  6. You can loose your USB drive and someone can steal it. You cant loose your password unless you forget it, nobody can steal your password from your brain. So a password is probably safer than having this USB thing. It's only people who watch TV who will buy that because they think its secure and cool when infact its not.
  7. List of Antivirus with links AntiVir avast! antivirus BitDefender AntiVirus ClamWin eTrust Antivirus F-Prot Antivirus F-Secure Anti-Virus AVG Anti-Virus Kaspersky Anti-Virus McAfee VirusScan NOD32 Norton AntiVirus Panda Antivirus Trend Micro PC-cillin
  8. I use AntiVir but I am continuously looking into ClamWin. Seems most people here use Avast, the reason I use AntiVir and not Avast is that AntiVir doesnt come with skins and feels more like a tool than a toy. Also Avast requires a subscription even though it is free, AntiVir doesnt even require a subscription. As for 64 bit systems, both Intel and AMD have 64 bit CPU's out in the market. Microsoft Windows is 32-bit but now they have released a 64-bit version too, but few people have it. And since most applications are compiled for 32 bit, in most cases you end up with no extra performance. However if you run Linux, example Gentoo Linux then you can run a 64 bit kernel and compile your software yourself to run as 64 bit, and then the 64 bit will be taken more into advantage. Even though 64-bit isnt all that wide spread today, if you plan to purchase a new CPU or computer, then 64 bit is a good choice because the 64 bit market will undoublty continue to grow. And with a 64 bit CPU you can ofcourse run both 32 and 64 bit software.
  9. I use the firewall in Windows XP SP2. Like with all Windows firewalls it is very trivial and sucks. But it does enhance the security and it doesnt get in the way.
  10. Norton AntiVirus sucks ass! "Yay, we have a kinder garden interface with skins and shiny icons!" It will drain all performance and memory from your computer. Instead of get a AntiVirus software that is more of a joke than a tool, get something that actually specializes in detecting virus instead of having shiny buttons. Oh and the only thing that sucks more than Norton AntiVirus 2002 is Norton AntiVirus 2003, 2004 and 2005!
  11. Yes, I am swe! HAOW DID YOU KNOW?!!!!1+1
  12. 2 gb RAM is definitly enough, and buying a faster memory module while still having your slower memory modules wont change anything since you cant run the new memory modules in lower latency settings. Wait to buy new memory until next time you buy a new computer.
  13. If you sell your car then you dont have to pay the car insurance then you will save more money. Then you can walk and your feet will be strong!
  14. Maybe it is some other software you are running in the background which dont like to close. Try shutdown all applications before you run the BitTorrent client and see if that helps. Personally I use ABC [Yet Another Bittorrent Client].
  15. I would recommend an gmail account. I have never got any spam since I started using gmail. Also it comes with a great interface that is easy to use, efficient, and feature-rich incl "starring" of mails, archiving, searching, atom feeds, etc. Also a good idea might be to have more than one email address. When you sign up on websites, forums, newsletters, subscriptions of various kind, services, etc you use one email address. And then you have another "main" email address which you use for friends and contacts. Many sites ask you for your email address and then resell it to spammers, etc. In most cases you can get by without revealing your real email address.
  16. I think google can read website and dont have to cache so much forums!!!
  17. That is because I am homosexual!!!1
  18. I think that have images in signature should be ban! People want read what is discussed not look at fancy pictures in peoples signature. Also not all people have highspeed internet and it eats their bandwidth.
  19. I dont have any Firefox extensions at all. I like it simple and clean, I dont think I need any extensions...
  20. I have used Norton AntiVirus 2003 it sucked, eventually I installed Norton AntiVirus 2005 which sucked even more. Now I use AntiVir from www.free-av.com, it is freeware (free for personal use only), made by a german company, doesnt have any skins, works great.
  21. It will clutter up your desktop and make it more difficult to get a fast overview at, will make startup times higher, and will all-in-all be a bad thing. You can run "the desktop cleanup wizard" it also runs by itself once in a while and you can choose to remove rarerly used desktop icons. Best thing is to keep as few icons as possible on the desktop and only things which you need quick access to and use alot. Example a internet browser and a media player.
