  1. Nothing left then try System Restore to prior to IE 8. You can always go back but it may require WinXP re-install. Good luck, davey Harry, you can always be on my team anytime !!!

    Gobble Gobble

Googled "gobble" and found this "virus song". It is a "virus song". Be careful it is "contagious". davey
  3. I have heard of others with problems trying to get back to IE7. Some programs may have the same names but from where you are I would use add/remove only for uninstalling IE7 again. Then download and install IE7 again with an "immediate" REBOOT. Do not try any cleaning or registry fixing at all for a couple of days. davey P.S. I am not saying that you should not try System Restore prior to installing IE8 but I would try this first. I have heard the lament that "you can't go back from IE8". How true this is,I do not know.
  4. Hi Badger, Welcome to the forums !!! You can download and unzip this file. It contains the technical details for the Applications , Registry entries and System areas that are checked and cleaned.. I know it is a little cryptic but it will give you a good idea. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=119043

    registry cleaner ?

Hi Nic, Welcome to the forums !!! Glad to see that CCleaner is doing good things for you. Same for me. I use ERUNT to automatically backup and delete old backups of the Registry and other important system files. It all depends on how long you think is sufficient. I keep backups for 7 days and then they are automatically deleted by the program that creates them. I REBOOT at least once a day if possible. Some people REBOOT less often. The ERUNT program creates 1 copy on each day that it is REBOOTED. Hope this helps. I use both programs from this author. http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/index.htm Good luck, davey
  6. OK Harry. What were you doing prior to this problem.? Had you installed, uninstalled or updated anything ? (Hardware or Software) What files did you delete ? davey
  7. Hi Selvan, Most users come to CCleaner with literally over a thousand "cookies". You can turn the "cookies" cleaning off and on as you need it. This link may help you. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=121522 davey Most cookies are not needed. They just slow down your browsing while all the bean counting websites fiddle with them. The only "cookies" I save are for my favorite websites like Piriform,CCleaner,Recuva,Defraggler,IE7Pro and other software sites I support. I want the bean counters to count them.
  8. Hi guys, Using the older versions is not a solution. The cookies are in so many places now it is hard for CCleaner to keep up. Especially with so many Beta versions of Browsers. Just remember to look where MrT listed above. Good luck, davey "Rogue cookies" sounds ominous. P.S. A list of "cookies" and which browsers that you used to get them would certainly help MrT to track down what is going on.
  9. Hi Harry, First thing I would do is some malware scans. Malwarebytes is excellent as an extra scanner. It is small, fast, easy to update free and outstanding reputation. You can download install and Quick scan in less than 15 minutes. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Do the System Restore if no malware is found. davey

    AOL

Hello ILG49, Welcome to the forums !!! I have no experience with using AOL. If you are referring to the fact the browser has to search for AOL, then this is explained by the fact that CCleaner default options are set up basically for most user that have not done any cleaning or rarely do it. Some files can get relatively large and benefit from cleaning. You can turn the option off to clean Index.dat files and History files. Many users only need to clean these every now and then. However, privacy paranoid users want these areas cleaned all the time. To each his own. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites New members Advice for CCleaner Start here with this link and follow its advice. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=105208 Also see this link about the Registry and newbies. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96510 Best wishes, davey

  12. Hi Selvan, Welcome to the forums !!! I find your "new cookies list" request interesting. I can't provide any alternative "cookies" methods but the new CCleaner version is available. 14. I am still single C drive with external USB on F. I turned F system restore off. You can start there and monitor them. Other users may have some more info but I wouldn't go lower than that for now. davey

    Applications

Hi Nancy, Welcome to the forums !!! The Applications tab is to show what Applications CCleaner has identified. If it is checked it will be cleaned, unchecked no cleaning. See the Cleaner section in the Guide. Consider the tabs one long list, they are all cleaned at the same time. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites New Users Advice for CCleaner Start here with this link and follow its advice. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=105208 Also see this link about the Registry and newbies. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96510 Best wishes, davey
  16. Hi Eli, Down that road again ? I find 2 GB or 2000 MB quite sufficient. I have increased it when doing a major update like from SP2 to SP3. davey P.S. This is assuming that you are still using WinXP like I am. Vista users are better off with the default. The better chance of recovering large data files which we can't do.
  17. Hello crispus, Welcome to the forums !!! When you start Defraggler click on Settings > Options and make sure the option to check for updates is unchecked. Good luck, davey

    Firefox 3.0

Gator, Did you try this solution. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=118567 I don't use Firefox but many others here do. Good luck, davey
  19. Hello arrcher, Welcome !!! Did you reboot after using CCleaner ? Well you already d***ed around with the Registry. It may have caused the conflict but it may be the other changes that you made. The best and easiest is to restore those backups into the registry. You probably had to run the "fix issues" more than once. Restore them in the reverse order . That is restore backup 2 then restore backup 1. Don't forget to reboot after you do this. If you still have problems let us know. Good luck, davey

    Firefox 3.0

Hi KCGator, Welcome to the forums !!! Are you having problems with CCleaner not cleaning this or Firefox not doing it ? There seems to be problems from other posts I have read and these Firefox users can give us both the latest information. I sure would appreciate an update on this subject. davey This one is for you Gator. You can lift it from my reply. I am a proud Florida Gator Dad. I think this Gator walked all the way from Germany.

    HELP

Hi brennan91, Welcome Try unticking the option at Cleaner > Applications tab > Multimediia > Adobe/Macromedia Flash Player . Good luck, davey P.S. See this post about "Flash Cookies" also. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=121032
  22. Hello olivierlabusse, Welcome to the forums !!! It is possible to load more than 1 copy of CCleaner. Use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to view Task Manager and see how many copies when start and when you exit CCleaner. Also make sure the option at Options > Advanced > Hide warning messages is unchecked. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites Good luck, davey
  23. Hi Harry07, You have done exceptionally well,Harry, for a very inexperienced user and trying to get help in a foreign language. You have done so well I did not realize that you are a relative inexperienced PC user. I apologize for that. I always try to keep the viewpoint of a "newbie" user and I forgot all about it with you. I was misled by one of your translations for the logs. That it why I thought some of the programs were mixed up between IE7 and IE8. What I mean by system specifications can found at the top of your CCleaner window in what is called the Banner area. I looked but I could not find any mention in your posts as to what OS you are using WinXP ? Vista ? I use Windows XP Professional edition Service Pack 3. (This is WinXP Pro SP3) Do you use other browsers like Firefox on your PC ? How have you been communicating with us ? davey
  24. Hi regradj, Thanks for your post.Welcome to the forums !!! Try testing the latest version of Defraggler v1.04. See this thread about available translations. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=18092 Good luck, davey
  25. Hi Harry07, In reviewing the log for Alan it appears that things have become mixed between IE7 and IE8. Your best bet may be re-installing IE7. If you do, be sure to follow the instructions to the letter and please Reboot when they say as soon as they say. "Do not do any cleaning of anything" for a couple of days. Good luck, davey P.S. After reviewing your log again I may be misled by some of the translation not actually relating to Hex listing. Alan's advise is valuable. You may still consider re-installing. By the way, what are your system specs, OS, etc ?
