  1. Hello Don, From my testing that option is only in effect when defragging the whole drive. It moved a few files all the way to the inside of the disk when I used it. However, runinng other disk defrags such as Defrag Freespace will result in the same files being moved to end of the used space. Hopefully, the new documentation that MrRon's team is developing will go into details for many of the new features of Defraggler. davey
  2. :ohi malwarecide, Welcome to the forums!!! My friend Alan_B is very informative and thorough in his response. I decided to try to explain it in a little simpler manner for you and possibly some other new users. The question is very interesting. I had not heard this suggested before but CCleaner does not "erase" or ""secure delete" data unless requested by selecting an option to do so. Most users never need to use this option. However, the option is available to overwrite(secure delete) if you have private data that you absolutely want destroyed. Deleting of files does not involve "overwriting" of data. The deleting of files is the normal function of CCleaner. "Secure-deletion" of files does involve overwriting of data and increases the amount of time to do so.. It also requires extra writing of data to your hard drive. Some PC users think that overwriting multiple times is required but it is not. You must select this option intentionally since CCleaner's default is Normal file deletion. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites Good luck, davey
  3. Hi Bob, Welcome to the forums !!! Thanks for joining us in the Defraggler Discussion forum. I have experienced just what you describe during my use and testing. It looks like we were thinking that the description for the Advanced action Defrag Freespace (allow fragmentation) means allow fragmentation of files and Defrag Freespace means do not allow fragmentation of files. I have come to the conclusion that the "allowing fragmentation" or "not allowing fragmentation" is referring to the Free Space itself and not the files. Both will result in fragmented files but one will produce one large Free Space and the other will produce multiple large Free Spaces. The good news is we will soon have our confusion cleared up as described in this thread. Yippee!!! http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=19197 Best wishes, davey I have sometimes used the term "defragmentation" when I should have said "fragmentation". I think you did the same in your post. May be contagious !!! Five times fast is too many when your tired.
  4. Hello Ross G, Welcome to the forums !!! As Disk4mat says CCleaner is to clean files from your computer. Many people think that it is also to clean malware from the computer. Any malware that gets cleaned is coincidental and not a function of CCleaner. From your snapshots it is apparent that you have malware that needs expert help to completely remove. I suggest that you follow the directions in this link and get help in the SpywareHell forum. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=17457 Good luck, davey Important Notice AdwareAlert is a Known "rogue software" that is being offered with a "free scan" on the Internet. Any website offering this is a "criminal" endeavor. Your PC has been infected with this "so called anti-malware" when in fact it is malware itself. As a member just like you please use the link above to get this removed from your PC. Other readers are warned not to visit the website related to this product or you can get infected also. Other readers looking for good security advice and safe software use this link written by one of our SpywareHell experts and moderators. http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/rridgely/...eprevention.htm Ross, we understand your situation and extreme frustration. You need this expert help. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=17457

    Slooooow start-up

Hello CDS, Welcome to the forums !!! You have been through quite a bit recently. Check with the person that helped you on the SpywareHell forum. You may have something to cleanup after using all that "virus" cleaning software. Also make sure that the settings in Norton are not causing a complete scan or something similar. This will definitely slow down your startup. If you are using Norton then be sure that no other Anti virus program is running also. You probably installed MBAM during your anti-malware cleanup and it is an excellent product. If you purchased the complete product be sure that it is not also running with Norton running. Keep MBAM updated in case you get infected again. There are other things that you can do later but you should do these things first . Check back with us, davey
  6. Hello dbie, Welcome to you also. Please explain what you did and then what happened. davey
  7. Hello, Not as far as I know. PageDefrag does many system files that are not available when Windows is running. Your report is interesting. I hope the Devs respond. Which file was the file that changed after running Defraggler ? When did this occur ? davey
  8. Hello vn8su, Welcome to the Piriform Forums !!! I agree with your list but I would have reversed the order. I am not an experienced user of Recuva in all it's various uses. However, it does have many options and features. When you get to the main screen, I suggest that you check out these. Don't forget to read all the Important Topics at the top of the Recuva Discussion forum like this one. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=14299 Good luck, davey P.S. When the occasion occurs to "reset or reformat" anything, I usually have a smoke and a large mug of coffee and I review every setting there is. Luckily I have learned by reading other users mistakes on this forum. You definitely are not the first to "reset" or "reformat" one drive when you meant the other. Please do the same when it comes time to "recuva" your data.
  9. Sometimes the data is available but not easily found. Many members, yours truly included, forget about those Important Topics at the top of each forum. New members never realize that very important information is available there. I check back in and re-read every now and then for a refresher. One sentence can provide the solution to many problems or avoidance of many problems. The authors sometimes update them and the update can be missed by many members. Yes !!! Sometimes I even re-read the forum rules. I have some interesting soup cans if you are interested. davey
  10. Hello, Please remember the Registry Issues feature is not a "cleaner" or "fixer". It looks for and reports issues based on the users options. It does not "Fix issues" unless the user says to fix them. Some software products create these "issues" and they should not be "fixed". This is under the control of the user. My recommendation to most users is to leave the Registry alone. Itemtracker program may be storing important information either in a temporary file, in the registry, in a "cookie", or even possibly in an Adobe/Macromedia "Flash Cookie". You need to find out where this information is being stored. Corrective actions can then be taken .CCleaner does not delete data unless told to do so. davey
  11. Hi Spider, Welcome to the Forums !!! I also think that if you are going to mess with the Registry then backing up the changes should be automatic. The option is at Options > Advanced > Show prompt to backup registry issues. The default is ON(checked). If you choose to "Fix selected issues" then you will be prompted to create a backup of the changed issues. I think the backup should be automatic but the way it is now you must reply to the prompt. If this option is not ON(checked) then there will be no prompt and no backup will be created. This is "Stupid" but that is the way it is !!! Perhaps they will put a box in the prompt reply that says "Automatically make a time-stamped backup in the default location" or something similar. Since you appreciate backups follow this advice. "Use of CCleaner.ini file to save CCleaner settings" You can save and recover all your CCleaner settings from a file stored in The CCleaner folder. This file is only created if you check the option at Options > Advanced > Save all settings to INI file. In WinXP this is file is stored at C:\Program Files\CCleaner. The text file named (cc)leaner.ini contains all your settings. I always recommend that the option to save the settings to INI file be set ON. You should make a backup copy and store it in another folder in case the original gets deleted. Plus it is easy to read since it is a text file. Flip the option off and back on and a new sorted version is created. This makes it easy to review and find things. Good luck, davey P.S. Also see this link about the Registry and Registry Backups. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96510
  12. Hi YVN, Welcome !!! Did you download and install the complete version? When you install it will list several option BOXES. The first two boxes have to do with putting an ICON on the desktop and Start menu. Leave these boxes checked. The other boxes I always turn off. They can be reset later if desired. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites New members Advice for CCleaner Start here with this link and follow its advice. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=105208 Also see this link about the Registry and newbies. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96510 Good wishes, davey
  13. Hello jassom, 1. What edition and version of Vista do you have, 32-bit or 64-bit ? 2. Look in the Event Viewer and see what errors were recorded at the time of the problem. Cut and paste a list. 3. Provide a list of the Registry Issues backups . (They contain text data) 4. How long have you been running CCleaner on Vista ? 5. What are your specs on your PC? 6. Did the Registry issues seem different than normal ? 7. Any hardware or software changes recently ? 8. Describe what happened when you clicked the "Restart" button ? This information will help. Thanks, davey

    Error message

OK ricko, Welcome to the Forums !!! Try it again and then write down exactly what the message says. Write down all the wording at the top of the box also. I have not had a message like this when running CCleaner. When you double-click on the CCleaner icon and the CCleaner window opens Write down the information at the upper left hand corner where it says "CCleaner.com". This will tell us what version of CCleaner that you are using. The other information there will tell us what Operating sysstem and PC information. If you have an anti-malware scanner run that also to see if you have any Malware in your PC. Put that information into your next Post. Good luck, davey P.S. At CCleaner Options > Settings Uncheck the option to Automatically check for updates to CCleaner. You do not need to download and install the program again . We do need the requested information to give you correct advice. If you know how to take a snap shot of the screen then that will help and make it easier for you.
  15. Prior versions are always available at FileHippo.com . This is true for all Piriform products. http://www.filehippo.com/download_defraggler/ Select the version you want from the list and Download and install. davey
  16. I may have misunderstood what you are saying. Are you saying that the "Cookies to Keep" list as shown in CCleaner is being deleted ? When you run CCleaner and then look at that list is the list still there ? How many CCleaner users are there on your PC ? davey P.S. The reason I want to clarify this is the fact that I use only IE7 and I also use WinXP Pro SP3. CCleaner does not delete any of my "Cookies to Keep" from my "cookies" folder at C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Cookies . Are these "cookies to keep" showing in the Analysis list to be deleted ? None of mine show in this Analysis list. Some of these sites may be using "Flash Cookies" and not normal "cookies". You may want to turn off the option to clean at Cleaner > Applications tab > Multimedia > Adobe Flash Player until you review the following thread and decide what to do about your "flash cookies". See this thread. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=117503
  17. I understand what you mean. The same thing happens with Avast! files. Avast apparently recreates or keeps the files from being deleted. How do you normally have the option set at CCleaner Options > Only delete files older than 48 hours ? Does Webroot have a user forum ? davey
  18. Hello qerencia, Welcome !!! What browsers and versions are you using ? Some browsers are causing conflicts. Tells us about your OS and version and edition. This is at the upper left of CCleaner window. Thanks, davey
  19. A neat looking Desktop. Don't foget that the contest rules require Thumbnails only . Good luck, davey
  20. Hello TurtleWax, Welcome to the Forums !!! I have read quite a bit that it is neceessary to do this. You are the first person that I have seen give us a report about this, I think. We do have quite a few Virtual PC users. They will be glad to see your report even if it has been reported before. Sounds like good news to me !!! Thanks, davey
  21. Did you see my EDITED last post ? Is there something in your drives. New software could have made things different than before. THe Boot CD has the good software and you should see something. IF you don't then then it could be hardware. We are just trying to rule out any problems being caused by what you did today. I understand your stress and frustration. CALM yourself. You are trying your best and that is all that you can do. Right ? davey P.S. BTW, what are your specs PC and Software ? P.S.S. You have proved that the monitor is working . Perhaps I should be using the term "Recovery CD". Your friends may have one or you can create one. It will contain all the software that you need to "fix" your software. It is usually needed to load your Install CD onto another PC and then "build " a recovery CD. I have done one for my PC using UBCD4Win. I have not been through the process of using it but I have Booted with it and it works and all my favorite software is on it. I created mine on my PC. Just trying to stay ahead of the "boogeyman",crooks and other scary things. You can also use a USB flash drive or DVD for your build. You can start here and read about it and Home page etc. http://www.ubcd4win.com/faq.htm
  22. EDITED Did you try F8 or whatever your PC requires ? Do you have any boot CD ? It seems like your monitor software is corrupted but I am no expert. It could be video hardware just as well. If you try any Boot CD and you still can't see anything than I would think that it is your video card or cable . You can try a boot cd and it will have its own software for this. Then you can try to correct Drivers or whatever. I need to check into this more. Do you have the Windows Recovery Console already installed perhaps ? What happens if you try booting from your install CD ? Good luck, davey P.S. Black screen at boot Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/155053 Computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP Home or Pro http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314503 Cause 1 **************************** This issue may occur if you have a CD, a DVD or a floppy disk in your CD, DVD, or floppy drive when you start the computer.
  23. Where and how did you get EasyBurner ? Did you submit it for analysis before installing it ? davey
  24. I would think MrRon could use your help as regards the "debug report". Especially due to your set up. Thanks for your Post and report. davey
  25. Guess you can try this forum !!! http://www.msfn.org/board/Nero-Lite-v71110...60&p=746393 davey
