  1. Hello Klaustrophobia, Why not stop messing with the Registry for awhile until you get things straight ? Make sure that you have all the latest updates from Microsoft. Especially related to C++. The older programs are larger and slower. 15 min to Analyze is definitely a problem going on. EDIT What versions were you using when you considered CCleaner to be instantaneous ? Good luck, davey P.S. For comparative purposes from 2.02 thru 2.13, I have experienced Analysis times from 1 to 1 1/2 seconds per MB. I have a Pent4 2.8Ghz with 256 MB RAM. I am using mainly "default" settings except I don't use CCleaner to empty my Recycle Bin. I do use the winapp2.ini file as provided on the forum. This is normally done with no other active processes. All browsers etc. turned off. It only ran slower when I , unknowingly had MS updates being downloaded at the same time. I have Indexing turned off for both Windows searches. This is done at the end of the day. Most of the cleaning involves Temporary Internet files 30- 120 MB normal deletion. I am using WinXP Pro SP3. I have 10-15% free space with no "whole disk" Defragmentation in months on a non partitioned 80 GB Hard Drive.(My C drive) I use Defraggler daily "file" defragmentation only. I rely on WinXP disk optimization processes. P.S. Use Task Manager to monitor what is going on when you run CCleaner.
  2. Hi nycquery, Welcome. Loads of good help and advice here on the forums. Yes, you will see names of different things "whiz" by as CCleaner analyzes. Your Windows products are probably still there, where they have been for years. Navigate to the Add or Remove Programs Window and click on Add/Remove Windows Components. Tick or untick what you would like. I definitely would do as OddTodd recommended above to get your computer up to date. Nothing like an up-to-date backup PC. I wish I had one. Good luck, davey P.S. There is no UNDO feature for cleaning programs. The whole idea is to get rid of data and not create copies. Back up of data is the users responsibility. Yes, those files are hidden. Navigate to Folder Options and uncheck the options to hide files.( there are a couple) You will find your data here C:\Documents and Settings\nycquery\Application Data
  3. Hi Ron, Good directions from Augeas and you followed them well. That folder that you are worried about /Recent is a folder that each user has setup by Windows. This folder contains "links" or "shortcuts". These are pointers to the actual files where your data (music in this case) is actually stored. When you click Start > My Recent Documents you will see a menu of these links or a window that shows all these links. Most users want this list removed when they "clean up". It does not remove the files that are pointed to, just the pointers. This /Recent folder also has pointers to every file that you look at. Some users don't want other users to be able to see what they have been looking at. Big Deal for some, not for others. The option in CCleaner is Cleaner > Windows tab > Windows Explorer > Recent Documents. If it is checked it will be cleaned and this is normal "default" setting. Do not be embarrassed to ask any questions . This will prevent many mistakes. Believe me I was where you are now about a year ago. Post a New Topic in the Software forum about your problem with Zen. You will get help and also learn a lot on these forums. Review these links as regards CCleaner before you do any cleaning. They will help save you some headaches. 4. Hi Ron, Welcome to the forums. I am glad to see that you reviewed the list of things to be deleted. Can you give us some snap shots depicting the files that we are talking about ? Can you also give us snapshots of the Windows tab and Applications tab ? You may have things stored in temporary places that should be moved before they are lost by using any cleaning method. Best Wishes. davey

  6. I am no Recuva expert but I know you want to try everything that you can. Did you try all the options ? Good luck, davey
  7. No it is not necessary. When you uninstall don't be surprised if something tries to connect to the INTERNET just let the uninstall do it's thing. Are you still having problems ? davey
  8. Hi PHARAOH, Welcome to the Forums. You are obviously a stickler for details. Your abilities and efforts to remove such errors would help us greatly. As you can see our members are very proud and protective of what has been achieved here so far. The Piriform products are free to all users. These products serve a very vital function in the daily PC use of millions of users, many of whom who could not afford such necessary programs. If you would also be willing to devote your efforts, all could certainly benefit. We have all served our role, now you can help !!! Thanks for your advice, davey
  9. Bean, Did you uncheck the option to clean Adobe Flash Player at Cleaner > Applications tab > Multimedia list like hazelnut suggested ? This protects all "flash cookies" that are special to Adobe/Macromedia Flash Player. These type of cookies have nothing to do with what is listed in Cleaner > Windows tab > Internet Explorer. Your normal Cookies are kept in an area that is special for Internet Explorer. Some other users that had your problem only resolved it by re-installing IE7. However, I am still not certain that what you are describing is not related to Adobe "Flash Cookies". What "cookies" show in the list of "Cookies to be deleted" at Options > Cookies after running CCleaner? This list should be empty if things are happening as you describe. After browsing see what is shown there before running CCleaner. You might as well set up your "cookies to save" at that time also. I also advise that at Options > Advanced check the option to save settings to INI file. This will help save all your settings in a file called (cc)leaner.ini in your C:\Program Files\CCleaner folder . What OS, edition and version are you using. WinXP Professional?, Home? , SP1? Sp2 or SP3 ? Or Vista Home, SP1 ? etc. Most of this will be listed at the top of your CCleaner window. davey
  10. Volland, Since you are using Firefox 3.x your problem will have to be handled as you are currently doing. Maybe the next version of CCleaner will help you. The problem right now is how Firefox is handling the "cookies" that it processes. It is keeping these cookies in a different area than what was standard before. davey
  11. Absolutely correct. See his other Projects click on Challenger V8 and Links. Here http://www.moyermade.com/projects.html The Links will take you to all the RC cars and stuff. Amazing stuff !!! 13. Hello wickedwitch, Welcome to the forums. I am sorry for the reason. The person who installed CCleaner had your best interests in mind I am sure. Please forgive them. "The Wizard of Oz" is my all time favorite movie. I find it hard to believe that I am helping the wickedwitch. The first thing you need to do is Run CCleaner and untick the option to clean Adobe/macromedia Flask player at Cleaner > Applications tab > Multimedia list > Adobe/Macromedia Flash player. This will prevent CCleaner from cleaning those "Flash Cookie" files. Once you learn more about CCleaner then you can Exclude "specific" "flash cookie" files and have the others cleaned automatically. This will protect you for now. You do not have to do anything like cleaning or analyzing right now. Just change the option and exit the program. You need to do some things advised further on. As far as recovering the deleted files, There is no easy way to recover those files. There is a very slim chance of "recovering" those files with another Piriform program called Recuva. http://www.recuva.com/ . You must be technically savvy and I won't go into details here. You will need to start a new topic in the Recuva forum. Since you are a new user I hope these links will help you with CCleaner. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites New Users Advice for CCleaner Start here with this link and follow its advice. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=105208 Also see this link about the Registry and newbies. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96510 Good luck, davey P.S. 14. This effort exemplifies the unending dedication and unlimited imagination of a mechanically oriented "tinkerer". The gentleman sure knows his craft. He is a master craftsman. I hope he finds some carburetor and cooling system master craftsmen also. More power too him. His key chains are and make real "enthusiast" type gifts. I would treasure one. davey
  15. Hi Savannah, Welcome to the forums. We are glad to have a young new member, especially one that has been appointed to Administrator. That is quite a responsibility. First, try these and then come back with some information that we may need. Some programs like SpywareBlaster and IE7Pro have options that will allow the user to "Kill Flash". Make sure that these options are not set in those programs or programs like them. Make sure that when you go to Adobe to install the Flash 10 that you are using IE only. Make sure that any other browsers are closed. Different browsers and versions can have bugs sometimes and cause problems. What PC name and model are you using ? What is the "Exact" message that you are getting ? Where and when are you getting this message ? Come back and let us know what happens. Best wishes, davey P.S. What OS and version are you using ?
  16. Hello Farrel, Welcome to the forums. Congratulations on getting things sorted as well as you have on all those PCs. You failed to tell us about your Desktop. Please tell us your system specs. and the OS and version that you are using. Trying to accomplish this on a Vista system is going to be almost impossible, BUT. Trying to do this on WinXP may be possible but you have to be sure to do certain things. You have to turn off any scheduled tasks, including disconnect from the Internet to avoid any interference. All other tasks must be turned off, including Anti-virus. You may even have to run in safe-mode and this is VERY slow. Many people want a complete defrag and yet they want to use the PC at the same time. Imagine all the files being created and you can understand that any defrag program is going to have problems. You may have to turn off the OCD. It may be easier. How soon before you get an update to that game ? Or any of the games ? Then you will be right back where you started. It is all up to you. The information is needed to assist in future development and other possible solutions and any further advice. How well do you juggle ? Good luck, davey
  17. Hello dbogle51, Welcome to the forums. Take the time to get this if you don't already have it. Link to the following website and download Dial-a-Fix program. It is a most beneficial program for many WinXp users. You need to get this and put it into your C:\Windows folder in case you need to get to it . http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix It is always good to have this program on your WinXP PC. I have used it many times to get me out of trouble. At the bottom of the Dial-a-fix window click on the Hammer(tools). You need SFC purge and then SFC scan. You may need your install disk also. The purge is for security reasons. DO NOT DO IT IF YOU DON"T HAVE YOUR INSTALL DISK AVAILABLE. You can do the SFC scan. This will reload your system files with fresh copies. Good luck, davey P.S. You can use Start > Run and enter this command sfc.exe /scannow But you should take the time NOW to get Dial-a-fix if you don't already have it.

  19. It is being caused by Firefox 3.x. It is really causing confusion for those that use Firefox and IE cookies. Hi CEB, There is a Firefox 3.x thing going on with the Cookies. You will probably have to turn off the Cookies option and handle the cookies with Firefox until it is no longer Beta or CCleaner and Firefox developers get things ironed out. A Firefox user will probably be able to give you further advice. davey EDIT There will be less confusion if you only use CCleaner when Firefox is Kaput. (stopped, closed, not showing in Task Manager.) The same applies to Internet Explorer. P.S. See this related thread. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=117348
  20. Volland, You do not need these at startup. You can turn them on again if needed. DO NOT DELETE any startup items. davey
  21. Hi again bean, Hazelnut's suggestion is what you need to do. This will protect special "flash cookies" that many "popular" sites setup in the Adobe/Macromedia files. Some financial institutions are also using them since the "flash cookies" are Encrypted. If these cookies are also regular type "cookies" then IE8 Beta causes problems and also Firefox 3.x has to be set to save the cookies that are setup in Firefox browser. If you are only using IE6 or IE7 then you should not be having any cookie problems. Maybe some Firefox users can tell you how to keep or delete those cookies. davey
  22. Hi bean, Welcome to the forums. Many users using IE8 Beta have problems with CCleaner deleting all their cookies. At Cleaner > Windows tab > Internet Explorer turn off Delete Index.dat files as a workaround for now. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ CCleaner Beginner's Guide.com Bookmark and save to Favorites New Users Advice Start here with this link and follow its advice. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=105208 Also see this link about the Registry and newbies. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96510 davey
  23. Hi hun, Well, you have some reading to do. Start here. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=118622 Good luck, davey P.S. Please don't delete your System Restore Points. They are too important.
  24. CCleaner's list of "cookies to delete" shows what cookies are in your Cookies folder minus the ones that are listed in "cookies to save". Whatever does not show there must be kept somewhere else by Firefox. The Firefox users can fill you in on Firefox due to it's various versions. davey
  25. Looks like you know more than you led me to believe . Leave on your ctf , tray, a/v, firewall and any back up at first boot type software. The rest turn off including adobe. Get Foxit PDF for free. Faster and not bloated like Adobe. I think it is about 1/10 th the size. Works for anything that says it needs Adobe. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php You can turn on any of the others if you really need want them at startup. DON'T delete any. Good luck, davey P.S. A little over a year ago my PC took 5-6 mins to boot and a little more to shutdown. Now I boot in less than 2 min. and shut down in less than that. CCleaner, UPHClean, IE7 and defragment did the trick for me. If you are XP you MUST have this. UPHCLEAN User Profile Hive Cleanup Service A service to help with slow log off and unreconciled profile problems. UPHClean: Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP 32-Bit systems THIS IS NOT FOR Windows VISTA. Vista has it's own program DPHClean. UPHClean v1.6d does not function under Windows XP x64 Edition or Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition. A future version of UPHClean may be supported under those operating systems.
