  1. Have a read here Basil, there seems to be an accepted solution there, plus several others that may be applicable as well. It's a page where after reading the question, you have to go right near the end of the page to see the answers and no, you don't have to pay! http://www.experts-exchange.com/Security/M...Q_21303875.html
  2. Hello Lusher, just had a very quick New Year's day look (if you know what I mean!) No portable CCleaner for temp files etc? CWShredder was last updated (I think) in Nov 2005, is it still a valid tool? Perhaps you could put a remark by the anti-virus list that only one is required if you decide to install a version of it. You know I'm sure, that some new users get confused about that.

    SIW 1.73

No, the standalone version doesn't need to be on a different drive, although you can put it on a usb which could be handy for dragging and dropping onto different computers. With the standalone version when you don't want it any more you just delete the siw.exe file, with the installer version you have to do it via add and remove. Not sure about the other two Craig I don't have them they sound just like addons, you could always download them later for a look if you wanted to

    SIW 1.73

I have 1.71 in a standalone version, just keep it in my docs for when I want some info. It's a neat little thing and you will find out loads about your computer from it. I don't have the other 2 things you mention. It's a new year, give it a try
  5. Good news that JD's link allowed you to fix your problem If however when you choose to make a .reg backup and your system is not recognising the file association, it may be a corrupted one. The fix for that can be found here http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
  6. It would be impossible to say which is THE best paid for software, so I take it you are meaning on a personal basis. The best software I have ever bought for myself was First Defence-ISR, however this can no longer be bought in the format I have. It totally changed the way I used a computer.
  7. Perhaps as your problem seems to be crazy and ordinary things don't seem to work, what about having movie maker open when you repeat again the same display changes again that fixed SAS?
  8. Here you go Craig, a New Years gift idea for you http://www.dynamism.com/iDuck/main.shtml
  9. Thank you Craig, another 10 and a half hours to go here yet
  10. After having a look around it seems this is not an uncommon problem, lots of things for you to read and think about trying here. http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-...blem-you-2.html http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-256266.php http://sillydog.org/forum/sdt_12104.php Let us know how you go on.
  11. Welcome to the forum jezza. Try reading here and see if it helps http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...p;hl=ZAMailSafe
  12. The answers from the posters below the employee, are FAR more interesting
  13. That's a great link, lets hope the info there works for Madmartigan
  14. There is a page here with some ideas, also a reg fix at the bottom http://www.mynetnuke.com/Blog/tabid/525/ar...e-Problems.aspx
  15. Don't forget with programs such as recuva and restoration you specify that it's just jpegs that you are looking for. (Apologies if you already know this.)
  16. Okay, try this http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html
  17. To restore the backup file you made, go to my documents where it is stored by default, right click on the file (which should end in .reg) and choose merge. Also there is always sytem restore.
  18. You could always try recuva, made by the same people as CCleaner is. http://www.recuva.com/
  19. Is this what you are on about Tom? If so looks like it's a cookie you have to save. http://developer.mozilla.org/webwatch/?p=206
  20. Congratulations Humpty... what are they calling him?
  21. He brought me a couple of days with the family. A lot of laughs talking about old family tales and traditions. An absolutely fantastic sunrise this morning. I also got some gifts from the family.
  22. I see you posted this question also on the CNET forums, there was a good answer there, last one, that you might want to bob over and have a look and try at it.
  23. Anthony, don't be so harsh, it's not a perfect world. People just new to computers do make errors of judgement, didn't you at any time? I know I did
  24. No, I actually think you have made a valid point. Lots of new users tend to press the button without knowing what will happen.
  25. If you have no luck with Dennis's good suggestion, here are two others to try http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/ (try first) http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
