    How to clean D:?

He wants to CClean D:. How can you not understand that?!
  2. It doesn't matter, as long as you don't call it 'CCleaner'. It was probably called 'ccsetup120.exe' Tons of people have this problem, and they never mention that they're changing the name of the downloaded file!
  3. Don't rename the installer to 'CCleaner.exe'.
  4. http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showto...findpost&p=9584 then http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en
  5. Sounds like it should be replaced.
  6. Has anyone thought to wait long enough? Give it 10 minutes. Walk away and come back later. I bet you it was just working hard ;P
  7. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Best. Thread. Ever. Score: Eldmannen - 1 d2e - 0
  8. This is not a CCleaner issue. Your license file is broken. You need to contact Symantec support. Start here: http://symantec.atgnow.com/subscription/categoryBrowse.do This allows you examine what exactly the problem is called using Symantec's verbiage, so they can better assist you if you contact them. Contact Symantec: http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/cs_contact.html Fill out this form [using "Norton Antivirus 2005" as your product], submit, and then click on Subscription Services. You will be able to them see the coveted email contact form. Someone from Symantec, within a few days usually, will email you back with a canned speech, most likely. Email a frustrated and angry reply, threatening to never buy their products agian, yadda yadda. After one or two email exhanges, you will probably earn your option to get your money back for the last product you purchased or subscription you received, or they may even generate you a new .livesubscribe file (or whatever file name it is on your exact version/iteration of "norton".) This Tuesday when I go to work, I'll grab the COVETED PHONE NUMBERS for 2 ways to contact a live human being at Symantec! Lemme know if you need the phone numbers (but please do try all of the above first).
  9. Don't save as a compressed-ass jpeg. JPEGs are evil and should be destroyed. Save as a PNG, noob!
  10. Oh, I know what this is. I've seen this a lot. Note: You can rest assured that it is not CCleaner doing this; CCleaner is just somehow able to *trigger* it. Spywareblaster is another program that is able to trigger these weird MSI (Microsoft Installer) problems. I knew of some more that could do it, but can't think straight at the moment. Microsoft Office does this crap too -- just appears and starts to reinstall itself when you reboot [sometimes], or run Spywareblaster, or one of the other programs that is able to "trigger" this event. To this day, I'm still not sure how it happens, or why it does this, but it's always certain programs triggering it, and it's always a Microsoft Installer that wants to install. Things you can try: * Let the Alcatel program do whatever it wants to do, follow all of its orders, point it to any disks/discs it wants, and let it finally finish (don't cancel it anymore). This rarely works; sometimes when it's Office coming up for me, after I point it at the office disc it wants, then it leaves me alone. But that's only sometimes. * 1) Completely uninstall the program. 2) Download the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (it gets installed at the bottom of your start menu) and see if there are any lines referencing Alcatel (after you've already uninstalled Alcatel, that is) or any completely blank lines. If there are, remove them. 3) Then run CCleaner's issues button and remove all found entries... do this over and over until CCleaner's issues list comes up blank. 4) Also use CCleaner on the Cleaner tab, just in case. 5) Reboot. 6) Reinstall the offending Alcatel app. * Zap it while it's installed: While the Alcatel program is installed, use the aforementioned MSI Cleanup Utility to remove its entry. Now install Alcatel. * Contact the company. See if they can find the person who built the MSI package. Maybe they've heard of this. Tell them what the problem is, but never mention CCleaner by name. Be vague. In fact, if you discover any other apps that can cause this (try Spywareblaster like I mentioned, if not just to prove this whole theory) then mention that it happens with many apps, but don't mention them by name... it will only lead their support crew into instant 'get-you-off-their-back' tactic which is where they say: "Oh then you need to stop using <program> or reinstall it or contact their support, because it's not us". If anyone has any information [like an MSKB article] on why certain MSI packages try to reinstall themselves occassionally, triggered by launching certain programs, PLEASE post now and you'll be mentioned on my blog.
  11. Check that you're using powered speakers. If your speakers don't have a light and/or a volume knob, then most likely your speakers are unpowered [well, the speakers should also have to be plugged into the wall outlet in order for them to work. If there's no wall outlet power required, then you're using the wrong speakers]. Onboard audio doesn't have an amplifier (especially VIA's). Get powered speakers.
  12. don't rename the downloaded file to `CCleaner.exe'
  13. Ah I totally recognize that error. Easy to fix. Go into Internet Explorer (Start, Run, IEXPLORE). Tools>Internet Options. Programs tab, Reset Web Settings.. yes. Tell IE to check whether it's the default browser. Close IE. Re-open IE. IE may ask you if IE can be the default browser. Uncheck the box that says 'always perform this check', but answer YES, so IE is now the default browser. Close IE. Open Firefox, go into FF's options, and set FF as the default browser. http:// from the run line should work again, and CCleaner's URLs should take you to Firefox instead of IE.
  14. If it JUST happened out of the blue, it can't possibly be settings May be time to get a new monitor or video card (depending on which is at fault.) You need a technician to look at it.

    Missing dlls

Don't be surprised, jlowell, only one person wrote CCleaner, and he doesn't post very often. Secondly, we know you said there are issues, but you haven't told us where they are located or what they are called. You have a few options: * Make several screenshots to show us what the results window says (since it lacks the capability to log) * Remove all the entries and let CCleaner create a backup, post the backup here as a .txt file, then double click the backup and merge it all back into your registry (to be safe).

    Boot Disks

bootdisk.com You should now feel embarassed.
  18. I can't live without Firefox Preloader myself. FF takes ages to startup, even on my AMD XP 2500+ 1GB, and half a second to start once FF preloader has started up. This is because firefox.exe shares code with all subsequently created child firefoxes (check your task manager and open several instances, you'll see it only grows the original firefox.exe, and not by as much as the first firefox.exe started out). I have applied the ol' prefetch parameter and not noticed much of a difference. This is because speedily fetching firefox.exe from disk is definitely not my problem [my HDD is insanely fast], but the code that gets loaded has a definite speedbump. The rendering code is massive and takes forever to start. %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<the_profile>.default\Cache\ is the folder that contains the files that get messed with. Firefox doesn't respond well when the cache is deleted out from under it.
  19. its own topic. "it can be found in it is own topic" does not make sense. This is how you know when to use "it's" or "its".
  20. Actually it's a pretty decent list. The fact that the page loads inside a frame is a little creepy. The source code for the frame is totally awful. On the outside, the site seems great. The underlying code, however, is totally nasty. It looks like a small site (the biggest part being the animated avast! spinner) but it loads like death, like it's 500 KB or something. It has a few HTML 4.01 Frameset errors, and would load in half a second if it were done with CSS.
