    Dial-a-fix?

It was not obvious, but it does say this in the help section (which remains grossly underwritten): So on the next build [which will include a whole new section: Windows Help/Support Center repair] will have a new paragraph that explains how DAF does what it does on various versions of Windows. But yes, 98 - 2003 as of right now.
  2. Uncheck cookies wait, yahoo messenger? never mind
  3. Time to get a technician. All of your assessments thus far look correct to me. I'm sure the data is still there, it just needs the partition table fixed up. You need to be lead through recovery console, so you can chkdsk the D:, or fixmbr. If you can't find anyone to do that, I'll make Tarun post about it.
  4. The answer is system stand by, but you might as well disable both. LAN activity in Windows (i.e., your DSL) has the potential for spinning your hard drives back up while they are sleeping -- so your hard drive(s) will get spin-down wear and tear from going up and down, up and down. Might as well leave your computer running all the time.
  5. Got that today, except it was under the heading 'Security Risks'. Right now, I'm not certain this is a specific malware causing this, because recent Norton products "don't share" status with other programs/take over the Windows firewall settings, and I believe those are the settings being found.

  10. This is ironic. I was playing with those keys so that I could help you out, and I made it to where I could delete the Recycle Bin, which is awesome... so I deleted it. It did a *great* job of deleting it apparently... Merged your .reg you just posted and now I have my recycle bin back

  12. why don't people pay attention
  13. It's not "legal" to have 95b/c/d any other way, because they are "Only for use with a new computer" But um... you may want to let it go... just find and install 98... x_X
  14. power consumption... dimming the screen just a few notches saves battery life considerably, and that was the point.
  15. Really? o_O Never gotten that to work. It probably just saves to BIOS anyway

    Ad-Aware SE

Had the same results across the board: doesn't matter about OS version, nor whether you're in safe mode or normal mode.
  17. It's not actually a problem, it's a feature. It changes the brightess, as stated, according to whether AC power is applied or not. The only way to change this is if your dell BIOS has support for changing it. Boot up and tap F2, or F10, or whatever the hell key it wants you to tap to get into BIOS/SETUP. If it's not in there, and you have the latest BIOS revision, then you can't change this feature.
  18. it doesn't require fooling, XP is just telling you that it will perform *faster*... I've never seen any messages from XP about it *not* working...
  19. Ok I'll start here I go http://www.flexbeta.net/images/spyware/ie.gif darn, I lose

    Ad-Aware SE

Ad-Aware is known for freezing during scans, freezing during quarantines/deletes, and crashing in general, so it's no surprise to those that use Ad-Aware on a daily basis
  21. Make a shortcut to CCleaner [and put it anywhere on your system you want, or even right-click-properties-General-hidden checkmark] that contains the /auto switch (or not) and then on the Shortcut tab, change the Shortcut key to something. I hit control+c which made the shortcut key alt+control+c, which works here
