  1. Extensions are great. They customize the browser to your liking, in any number of ways. I have the following extensions installed: * Tabbrowser preferences, which enhances tabbed browsing significantly * Bookmarks synchronizer, so I have the same bookmarks at work/home * Download manager tweak (so that I can make the download manager window become a tab, and it auto closes) * Flashblock, so I never see a popup or ugly flash banner again -- unless I explicitly allow it (this extension is the best yet) * miniT drag+indicator, so I can drag and move tabs around (this really should be part of standard firefox functionality but it isn't yet, so I have to us ethis) * Disable targets for downloads, to reduce the number of blank windows caused by downloading (in HTML, the target= tag causes this usually) * CuteMenus 2, to add more icons to Firefox, to pretty it up * Tab X, to move the 'x' at the end of the tab bar onto each individual tab * BBCode, to give me a right click context menu that I can use to add BBCode! * BugMeNot, an interface to www.bugmenot.com -- allows you to login to certain sites without registering yourself (!) - can't live without this anymore And there's even better stuff out there... I use even more extensions at home, that was just a list from work Extensions and themes are very fun. More fun than you ever had with IE!
  2. That's funny and all, but please try not to bring this too far off topic. I'm not happy. And to anyone who is about to ask, no I don't think is too trivial. I don't appreciate having my location edited by a moderator that allows spam posts to stagnate, while he edits other users' signatures [and if Eld's signature is his own doing, then I apologize to you, TM, but you do waste a lot of time playing with people and not actually moderating posts]. Again, if TM did this, I'm not coming back.
  3. UPS systems also protect against power sags/brownouts/blackouts, which are more likely to happen to you [and more likely to damage your computer] than any surge. Most modern electrical systems come with GFI, but they don't protect you against sudden drops, which kill power supplies, modems, etc. A UPS [which also CLEANSES dirty power signals] will protect you from sags, spikes, and dirty power. 500VA sounds okay, but the higher the VA, the better.
  4. Eldmannen now has this in his sig: This is the second time I've been messed with, and I'm already sick of it [and after this post, I'm over it]. If TwistedMetal changed Eldmannen's sig to this then I'm DOUBLE pissed, and will not be returning. Thank you.
  5. I suggest ditching IE, which is a joke, and start using Firefox; it is infinitely better than IE http://www.getfirefox.com </Eldmannen>

    msi live update

I love Live Update for MSI boards; I use it when I don't want to be bothered figuring out which particular MSI board something is and having to manually download and install all the files. As for updating drivers, yes. Only upgrade them if something's wrong.
  7. Yeah, that's what I meant to say. hehe
  8. Yes, and yes, if they've been saved as a .doc (OOo defaults to saving as its own proprietary format -- figure that one out).
  9. Simpy don't use the uninstaller section of CCleaner then. It's for removing programs, as it implies.
  10. I mean, are the other names limited users? And no, can't put anything back that you deleted via regedit.
  11. You act like you don't understand what I meant, but you corrected the post anyway.
  12. Your system is fast enough to handle disk compression without tanking your performance too much.
  13. No, the keyboard needs drivers (installed as a filter driver, as either a service (NT/Me/2k/XP only) or a background process (95/98)). You need an application, to be a front-end to the driver/service. The operating system still ends up handling it. Other applications and games don't give a crap about extra keys, although if there was a common interface to multimedia keys, they could catch events from them if they were so inclined. But since there's not, most apps and games don't give a crap about extra keys; 'only a few applications/games work with it' is therefore kind of an odd statement. You can theoretically program any key of the keyboard to do anything a user could do (by talking to the window handle, etc). It's just a matter of how, and the method a given filter driver uses to communicate.
  14. I guess *.tmp could be shorter for *.temp, but it also doesn't have to be. I've never seen *.temp. Like I said, it's up to the author of whatever software is in question. There's no rule about file extensions. You can call a file whatever you want. I was giving 'template' as an example for my theoretical program where I'd use *.tmp as my data files.
  15. I don't understand. 'default.7zm' is not right at all... firefox.exe always works from the Run line [as does most things in Program Files]... I don't get it ARE YOU RUNNING WINDOWS 98 OR ME? X_X
  16. Are you still trying to remove these as a non-administrator? Because you can't do that.
  17. How'd it get full? What kinds of files do you keep on it? Are there large games you can uninstall? Mp3s you can archive to CD? Re XP's disk compression: If your computer is fast enough and has enough memory, you won't notice much of a performance hit [decompression is done in memory, and is lightning-fast, but takes up to 2x to 4x the amount of memory as a normal file].
  18. DOS' 8.3 is not a problem anymore, so it's up to whatever program wants to use them. If I was so inclined, I could make a program which uses *.tmp as its data file extension name [and say it stood for 'template'], and any program which seeks out *.tmp and deletes it would destroy my program. That's why I never endorse scripts or programs that seek and destroy certain file extensions.
  19. It's infinitely awesome because you can program the characters to be any graphic. QWERTY et al can be in a different font every day, if you so desired. Illmannered, you just have something bad to say about everything, don't you. And keyboards are controlled by operating systems, not applications/games, fruit. The quality of the displays is evident, and excellent. What do you expect in a few millimeters of space anyway, 1200 dpi?

    Jv 16 powertools

That's definitely not registry problems. That's either bad hardware, or a bad driver/service. Right-click My Computer, go to Properties, Advanced Tab, Startup and Recovery>Settings, and under 'System Failure', UNCHECK 'Automatically restart' (if not unchecked already). Next time your computer goes to auto-restart... you'll get a blue screen of death instead (which is infinitely more useful). If you ever get a blue screen, write down the STOP error code and all of the parameters (all of the numbers in parenthesis) and any text that is capitalized (stuff that looks like: "IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL", etc) and I'll assist you.
  21. Previous patches (before SP2 even came out) were called SP2, and the current patches (ones after SP2) are called SP3. You uninstalled SP2? x_x Are you at least current with WindowsUpdate? Can't explain why it only shows up in one account. (does it say HKLM ?) Did you scan for issues more than once in your account? Orphaned issues beget other orphaned issues (once removed). So, if you did an issues scan from your account, then removed all issues found, then scanned from his account, it's guaranteed that you'll find different issues (which isn't related to the fact that you switched profiles, except for HKCU entries) because when you remove issues, they cause other issues to become orphaned. Don't go into the registry to delete anything; that's CCleaner showing you this issue, and it's therefore CCleaner's job to remove it. Don't ever delete any $NtUninstall$ folders, ever. (although from the looks of CCleaner's report, that folder doesn't exist anyway).
  22. 0) Try control+refresh, if I didn't already mention that before. 1) Close all Firefoxen [and if available, Firefox Preloader]. 2a) Know what your profile directory is called. You can find it by: 2b) Start, Run..., %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\profiles then hit OK. You'll see a directory that ends in ".default", and that is the name you need. Copy that name down. For instance, mine's oh7v52mf.default. Right click on that folder, and pick copy. Then right click in a blank area next to it, and pick paste. It will then say 'Copy of whatever.default'. This way, we can modify your profile and not worry about making a mistake and damaging it, and we will have a copy to revert to if things go awry. 3a) Copy and paste the line below, but replace the phrase YOUR_PROFILE in the following with the directory name you found up in step 2b: (Click Start, Run...) CMD /C RMDIR /S /Q %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\profiles\YOUR_PROFILE\cache Start up FF again. Clear the cache (which I hope causes FF to make a new cache DB). See if all is well again. If it doesn't fix the problem, then you should close all firefoxen, and: Start, Run..., firefox.exe -profilemanager This will allow you to create a NEW profile, that can't possibly be corrupted.
  23. Yes, trillian is a jabber client. Almost all jabber clients can connect to almost all IM services out there. http://www.jabber.org/software/clients.shtml
