  1. The service doesn't slow anything down, and nobody can prove otherwise. Crash logs get created whether or not they are being sent by error reporting service. Sometimes you will get a screen with a pre-release patch on it when you submit an error report for a known problem. The more error reports get sent for the same problem, the more attention the problem gets, and the faster the response. Supporting Microsoft = supporting you.
  2. MrG: It's not a bug in CCleaner, it's just a registry permissions problem. It's caused most often by Norton 2006 products.
  3. Download http://DjLizard.net/software/secedit.chm and put it in C:\windows\help
  4. Please don't disable error reporting.
  5. Since it's written in Delphi, it gets 1 point from me.
  6. Now use Dial-a-fix again, and see if the Windows Update section will run without errors. Also hit Flush SoftwareDistribution. If both run successfully, go to Windows Update. If WU still won't work, hit the green checkmark in DAF and wait for the entire suite of procedures to complete. Hopefully you won't get any errors. If all of the DAF stuff still errors, try it in Safe mode command prompt like before, but instead of going to Tools > Repair permissions, hit the green check and hit GO.
  7. Try Dial-a-fix > Tools > Repair permissions > GO
  8. Here is how you fix this: 1: Download: Dial-a-fix (full version) 2: Tools > Repair permissions > GO
  9. Wow. Ok. Move the folder you extracted Dial-a-fix into to the root of your C: drive, and rename the folder DAF, for readability purposes. When you are at the command prompt, type: cd \daf dial-a-fix.exe Click on Tools, then Repair permissions in Dial-a-fix. Also, you may want to re-apply service pack 4, but you'll probably have to do this from Safe Mode as well. http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/6...e/W2KSP4_EN.EXE
  10. Not the same thing. I just mean place the shortcut icon on the All Users desktop, so that when I log-in under another account, I can see the icon and click it. Cleaning one account via another account would be pretty difficult to implement in a visual basic program such as this. vv yeah, that
  11. I have a simple request: modify the NSIS script so that the desktop icon installs to %allusersprofile%\Desktop instead of %userprofile%\Desktop Cheers.
  12. WTF. CCLEANER IS RUINED. Now CCleaner comes with crap.
  13. Obi Wan Celeri: It was not caused by Spywareblaster, it cannot be fixed by the developer of Spywareblaster, and it is not Spywareblaster's problem, at all. PS: This is my last post ever. Please don't muck up this thread by posting a bunch of crap about me leaving and how I shouldn't and blah blah, because I'm not even going to be here to read it, don't care much, and I hate it when people ruin the thread of someone who is trying to get support, so don't even think about it. If anyone wants to talk to me, visit my site. brucer, I hope your problem gets resolved soon. Know that it is neither CCleaner nor Spywareblaster's issue, it is only a coincidence. I see this all the time (and it's always a different program each time that triggers this behavior in MS Office. I have a post about this exact issue somewhere, someone will probably dig it up for you). Bye all.
  14. try http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/ instead - it installs a brand new ActiveX control which has helped me several times in the past. Registry thing: Start, Run... regedit Right-click HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, click Permissions, and make sure there are users listed in the 'Group or user names:' box. (names such as CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM, Users, Power Users, Administrators, etc). If there is nothing there (then that's the reason it's broken), you need to click 'Add' and add all of the accounts I just listed above.
  15. Try Dial-a-fix. Failing that, check the permissions of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. If you need a walkthrough on how to check that, let us know. If there are no users listed on HKCR, then that is the issue. thedon57: What the hell are you talking about?
  16. So far we know that there's a VIA southbridge and RealTek 8139C integrated LAN. The other chip is nada. You need to read the motherboard itself -- somewhere, printed directly on the board, usually in (slightly larger than usual) white letters, will be the model of the board. Any of these ring bells? : ECS / (Elitegroup) Chaintech Gigabyte MSI (Microstar) ASUS Amptron Biostar PC-Chips Soyo ASRock Abit AOpen DFI Epox LeadTek Red Fox brain hurts, on your own now There are lots of utilities that can figure out what model and make of board you have, which hopefully someone will link because I've got to go.
  17. If you don't have or want Microsoft Office, you can use this Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to rid yourself of this annoyance. After installing it, you'll find it at the bottom of your Start Menu (not even in a folder). Find and remove all Microsoft Office-related lines in the utility and remove them. Then you can install AbiWord or OpenOffice as a replacement.
  18. The screenshot you posted is of Yahoo not being formatted via CSS, which is not a bug that is waiting to be fixed in IE7. Sigh again, try this: http://DjLizard.net/resetaccessibility.reg
  19. *sigh* Tools > Internet Options > Accessibility > Uncheck everything
  20. This forum has not gone to hell yet, so let's just chill out until it does.
  21. It is clear that these forums are not under a democracy, as no such voting from the regular populace has ever sparked activity. Since it is futile, I vote that we quit trying, and just sit back.
  22. Now while I respect you Tarun, I have to say, you spend a lot of time swinging with other techs (as well as a few wannabe techs). You need to stop being so overly defensive and lashing out at them, seriously. You'll be a great tech when you stop hoarding knowledge and just let go, and learn from one another. Have you read Mastertech's site? It's almost great, except for the advertisements, and a few miscellaneous peeves I had which I will save for a later thread. And the name Mastertech. But I digress, my name is not much better, as I am neither of the things my name describes (kind of like IDM, which is neither intelligent, nor dance music)...
  23. What all versions of the NVIDIA driver have you tried? NVIDIA's driver is known for its issues, and you stated you're using a beta, which is scarier to me than a beta of a Microsoft product. Also, you said it yourself, you haven't tried using one card at a time. That's obviously your next step. You can't assume that turning off SLI mode and still having the same issue proves that both of your cards are bad, so now you must prove it physically.
  24. Yeah, stop cleaning your browser when your browser is still open until your PMs to MrG tire him enough that he finally adds a check for a problem that is long overdue. But, it's not like there's a hidden agenda here of lulling over people's problems, it's just that most people have no idea what they are talking about... they tell us that CCleaner killed their dog, reset their AOL password to something else and formatted the hard drives of all of their friends. Mostly unfounded theories and speculation. There is no possible way CCleaner would specifically delete those three files, unless you made C:\WINDOWS a custom folder to clean. I wouldn't really be surprised though if CCleaner let you do that. 'course you wouldn't make off with much... it would delete a lot more than three files.
