  1. It's not scanning your system over and over... this is why MrG needs to implement an indeterminate progress bar, or at least list files as they're being scanned or deleted, instead of waiting until the end to show the list. The progress bar starts over because the progress bar does not know how much time is left. Your CCleaner works fine -- just wait.
  2. That is a security access error. First, try using Dial-a-fix's repair permissions tool: 1) From the account that CCleaner won't run in, download Dial-a-fix medium. Extract it on your desktop. 2) Launch Dial-a-fix.exe, click the hammer button (Tools) and then double click on "Repair permissions". Wait for it to complete (it takes quite a while), close Dial-a-fix, and try CCleaner in that user account again.
  3. 0x80070005 is access denied, so yeah, repair permissions first.
  4. 32MB of RAM is also enough (for Linux itself -- if you don't install X11).

    nero software

Way to read the post. "I cannot install nor unistall latest nero"
  6. Linux even works on 386s, dude, chill out.
  7. This is just a guess, but try burning it slower (24x or less).
  8. Well, up there ^^^, I posted the official fix for this appearing on your desktop.
  9. you'll have to upload it, because you can't have the JS access your local system. It's against most browser's security policies.
  10. damn dude. well, uh, you've tried to embed a local document (not going to fly) which is an mpeg, as a shockwave flash object (not going to fly). also, if ( linkselect == 1 ) all the way to 30 is pretty atrocious. Why wouldn't you just do something like: linktext = linkselect + ".bmp" (I don't do JS, but there is no reason for you to have to type out all of those IFs, in any language)
  11. Er, Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00021400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\shellex\ExtShellFolderViews\{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}]"PersistMoniker"=hex(2):66,00,69,00,6c,00,65,00,3a,00,2f,00,2f,00,25,00,75,00,\73,00,65,00,72,00,61,00,70,00,70,00,64,00,61,00,74,00,61,00,25,00,5c,00,4d,\00,69,00,63,00,72,00,6f,00,73,00,6f,00,66,00,74,00,5c,00,49,00,6e,00,74,00,\65,00,72,00,6e,00,65,00,74,00,20,00,45,00,78,00,70,00,6c,00,6f,00,72,00,65,\00,72,00,5c,00,44,00,65,00,73,00,6b,00,74,00,6f,00,70,00,2e,00,68,00,74,00,\74,00,00,00 Save that ^ text as a .reg file, double click to import.
  12. HJT log won't show anything that could possibly cause this, and a repair install is a bit drastic (and may not even touch the problem). Have you tried disabling and then re-enabling System Restore? (right-click My Computer > Properties > System Restore). Disable it, hit apply, then re-enable it and hit OK. Then see if it still happens. All else fails, post at the newsgroups.
  13. Uhh actually I have no idea what's going on. Post in a Microsoft newsgroup: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsg...d&lang=en&cr=US or http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsg...0&lang=en&cr=US an MVP may appear who might know what's going on, or how to track it down.
  14. Well, if you are getting a new machine and/or hard drive, and you're familiar with setting everything up, no big deal. But if you were going to keep this machine, you'd want to ghost the contents of this drive over to a new drive so you wouldn't have to reinstall everything.
  15. The program receives all data from the hard drive, so it's your hard drive that is changing its mind. A TEC date is listed because the drive thinks that's when it's going to fail completely. Now I realize what SMARTass is missing.... and I don't think I will be putting it in DAF just yet. Also, this is why the SMART command failed. Backup your data now, see a local technician, and ghost your drive's data to a new one; it's going to die. TEC dates are pretty unreliable, so you'd better take no chances.
  16. Nice, so CCleaner really did break your machine (by virtue of the great included Yahoo! Toolbar)
  17. Did you use the issues scanner? If not, then it wasn't CCleaner. If you did use the issues scanner, did you save the backup it prompts you to create? If not, then you're out of luck unless you ask a Microsoft MVP at their newsgroup(s). Start here (I think a Passport is required): http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertz...t&lang=en&cr=US or configure your Mail client/news reader to subscribe to microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support
  18. I literally meant thanks... it was not sarcasm. An end-user is not supposed to decipher that data; this is for me. End users should use hdtune, which is far superior. All of the attributes are referring to the hard drive, not the system itself, and the statistics are gathered over time. The numbers in my value column are not literal measurements; i.e., the 'power on count' is not in units such as hours, or days or anything. Only the "raw" value (which is not shown in my program) actually contains real counts like that. The numbers my program shows are statistical/percentage type numbers, set by the manufacturer. The only thing you need to know is: if an attribute's Value falls below its Threshold (excluding Seagate drives) then that attribute is reporting imminent failure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Monitori...logy#Attributes
  19. hmm. Okay. Thanks for that. SMARTass is now winding down. I have what I need to be able to add this to Dial-a-fix at a later date.
  20. It does trickle the download. It uses idle network bandwidth. That's what BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) is designed to do.
  21. Dear god, couldn't you have attached that so it would have retained its formatting? Okay, don't worry about the warnings you see there... Seagate has very weird SMART status reporting and your drive is most likely just fine. If you want to be sure, download Seagate's HDD testing tools and test your drive out. But thanks, now I know what else I need to fix. I think Seagate using a different byteswapping mechanism or something, because those stats are not accurate at all. I'll have to figure out what Seagate is doing differently than everyone else.

  23. Keep an eye on your SMART status daily with my app. You will receive an alert in the textbox that either starts with "x Warning:" (when threshold is getting close) or "! SEVERE:" (when threshold is exceeded). Basically, if any attribute's Value column number is equal to or lower than its Threshold (Thrsh) column number, your hard drive is either in the process of dying or will die eventually (it could die in 1 hour or it could die in 6 months; there's no way of knowing exactly). All of your attributes are fine, so I only suspect a hibernation fluke. But you may want to monitor it daily for a while just to be sure. Check your event viewer for any "disk" or "ATAPI" events, especially ones with the red X on them.
