  1. No problem. But yeah, your video card is most likely going to die. You can get a cheap one (like a GeForce MX-series card) from a local PC shop for about $35-50 USD (don't know how much it is in GBP).

advertismen is malware (so remove it), and WebFldrs XP is part of Windows and removal is not recommended.
  3. The COM object was pointing to the wrong CLSID. This is the first example I've seen of a registry cleaner needing the capability of correcting an entry instead of deleting it. It's probably a bug in iepeers.dll (that's the DLL the CLSID belongs to) rather than CCleaner, though. CCleaner was correctly identifying it as invalid. DDraw crashes can be caused by anything, and are often not DirectDraw's fault. Since your system is old enough to have Windows 98, the video card is probably old enough that it the GPU is slightly damaged. TNT2, Vanta, and other NVIDIA cards from the Win98 era are currently dying left and right (as if by planned obsolescence) because the GPU is practically catching on fire. I suggest you open the side of your case, and touch the heatsink or GPU with your finger carefully... if it's too hot for you to put your finger on, the card is probably dying (especially if it's from that era). If you take the card out, and the GPU doesn't have a heatsink, then 1) it's definitely time for replacement anyway, as no card has an exposed GPU anymore, and 2) you might be able to see browning on the GPU's text. If it has a fan on it, and the fan label looks all dirty brown in the center, but white on the edges, your GPU is on fire and the card is dying.
  4. Start > Run > regedit Drill-down to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\HeaderFooter.HeaderFooter.1\CLSID The "(Default)" entry should say {30c3f6cd-98b5-11cf-bb82-00aa00bdce0b}. Double-click on (Default) and change the first 4 digits of that long string to {3050...etc etc. So it will be {3050f6cd-98b5-11cf-bb82-00aa00bdce0b} when you're done.
  5. This is interesting... I'm going to look into implementing that kind of a feature into DAF. (edit: ok, I implemented it. public beta #2 will have it.)
  6. Oh geez, I didn't even see the part where you said you are using Win98. My post was a reflex, sorry. Uh... well, since Windows 98 doesn't set permissions in the registry, then Dial-a-fix will not help you do anything, so, sorry about mentioning it. It would have shown up where you were, had you been running 2k/XP. I don't know the answer at all.

  8. put "start /wait" before the ccleaner line. start /wait "%ProgramFiles%\ccleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTO
  9. Inno setup does this automatically. Inno setup is superior.

http://DjLizard.net/Dial-a-fix-2006-05-25.exe Dial-a-fix has a policy scanner that looks for those types of things. If you don't see a policy window open right when you start Dial-a-fix, then you don't have any restrictive policies to worry about. You could also try clicking the bold 5 in the corner (to checkmark all of box 5) and click GO.
  11. http://DjLizard.net/Dial-a-fix-2006-05-25.exe Click the green double checkmark button and click GO. Once finished, click the Hammer (Tools) and double click Reset WMI/WBEM (all the way at the bottom). edit: oh yeah, and this will generate tons of errors/warnings/information entries in Event Viewer, so after using Dial-a-fix, clear out all of the logs and reboot the computer.
  12. It never gets old, except always!
  13. Does it now recognize keys it cannot delete? I think CCleaner should inform the user that one or more keys could not be deleted because of [insert HRESULT and error text here]. Will CCleaner eventually support Unicode?
  14. Total fragmented files = 1 You're done. There's 1 file (probably being used by Windows) that cannot currently be defragmented. You have nothing to worry about.

  17. It obviously does something different now... I found that the keys are moved to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\<name of original entry> Run- was the Win9x way, but I could have sworn it does it in XP too. Perhaps this is an SP2 thing? (it's definitely not a Home/Pro thing - that's not the point of the Pro version's differences)
  18. Not really, but: If a deactivated item was in HKCU, Run- gets created there. If it was in HKLM, it gets created there. If it was in the Start Menu > Startup folder, then it creates "Disabled Startup Items" in the Start Menu, and no Run- is created. Etc.
  19. Yeah, everyone has problems. People have hardware failures and third-party software conflicts and bugs. People have problems with Linux, Mac OS X, MS-DOS, OS/2, UNIX, and any other operating system out there. Welcome to computing.
  20. One of many known CCleaner bugs. You didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes you won't get an analysis, sometimes you won't get the results after cleaning, but if you do just hit Run Cleaner, it will clean your system properly (whether or not it displays the log).
  21. Well if you're (not "you" literally; everyone) getting so many error reports that you'd consider disabling error reporting to thwart it, maybe you should consider having the erorrs checked out by a professional instead of cutting the arm off because of wrist pain You're not one of those "Microsoft/Windows sucks" people who constantly expect problems, or think all problems are because "Windows sucks", are you?
  22. The Earth is constantly emitting radioactivity, but it's no big deal. We've been exposed to it for eons and it's low-level.
