  1. There sure isn't. Does CCleaner's files removal take so long on your system that it would warrant a system tray icon?
  2. What version of Windows are you running? Andavari: Maybe. If you are using Windows XP or Windows 2000, then download Dial-a-fix-medium , double click it, extract it to a folder, double click on Dial-a-fix.exe inside of that folder, click on the Tools button (the hammer) then double click on Repair permissions. If you are using Windows 98 or Millennium edition, don't do any of that. For XP/2000: Click Start, Run, and then type/paste each of the following lines, one by one, including the quotation marks: regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCHelper.ocx" regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCListBar.ocx" regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCListView.ocx" regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCTab.ocx" regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCTreeView.ocx" regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCSubTimer.dll" regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\CCSystem.dll" For Windows 98/Me, replace %ProgramFiles% with C:\Program Files\ so each line would become: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCHelper.ocx" (etc)
  3. Why weren't the logs removed? Because they were created after the program was installed. All programs follow a general rule that they do not remove files that were not initially installed by the program. This is a safeguard to prevent data loss. For instance: Intuit's Quicken stores its data files in the program's installation folder (which is retarded, but that's a story for another post). If you uninstalled Quicken and it deleted your financial information, you'd be pretty sore. So most programs only remove files installed by the program initially. Logs get left behind by MSAS/Defender as they are considered user data.
  4. You definitely wouldn't want it for 98/Me anyway. It can only serve to make things worse.
  5. Way to quote the wrong person. But anyway, andreasm is right; none of those things are cleaned.

    Advice please

Yeah, I work on customer machines all day, every day.
  7. So change the reserves to 1024 MB, what's the problem?
  8. If you're hitting "Open" during the download instead of "Save" then you should hit "Save" instead, and save it to your desktop.
  9. The problem is that the restarting of the progress bar confuses people. MrG should implement an indeterminate progress bar (which is one that does not advance, but simply spins in place) and also list all files as they are being deleted. See an example here: http://www.movalog.com/mt-static/images/in...rogress-bar.gif
  10. Yes, E: needs to stay FAT32; don't convert it.

    Advice please

hazelnut: cool! I use Ad-Aware and Spybot about 30 times per week, every week, every month, every year. I do this for a living and leaving out Ad-Aware would be fatal to my routine.
  13. Now MrG needs to add UNICODE support.

    Advice please

What? Bad advice. (rridgely, instead of badges for the known-good solutions providers, howabout badges for the known-bad )
  15. Usually because they are in use by the program that created them (or Windows) and CCleaner usually marks those for deletion upon your next reboot.
  16. Or it could be any other random bad hardware. Start with a memory test program first, as it doesn't involve needlessly buying random parts. You can make a bootable CD-ROM or bootable floppy via that link. Let it get to Pass: 5 before hitting escape. It should take up to 2 hours to get that far. Also, what kind of crash is it? Does the program crash? Does Windows reboot instantly? Is there a blue screen of death? Configure your computer to create crash dumps: Start > Run > control sysdm.cpl,,3 > Startup and Recovery > Settings > uncheck "Automatically restart" and set "Write debugging information" to "Small memory dump (64 KB)". The dump directory is usually set to %SystemRoot%\Minidump If you find any files in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump after getting a blue screen of death, PM me and I'll tell you where you can email them so I can debug them and find out what's wrong.
  17. Oh I get it... CCleaner is not a UNICODE compliant program (MrG: hint hint) and thus cannot delete any files or registry keys that contain UNICODE letters. Instead, UNICODE characters will show up as question marks. What you'll have to do is run regedit yourself (which is UNICODE compliant) and find those keys and delete them yourself. Basically, you *do* have appropriate permissions to touch them, but CCleaner is literally trying to delete a key with question marks in it (which are not actually question marks). Start > Run > regedit.exe Highlight HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Hit Control+F (or Edit > Find) and type: _auto_file Now you have to search repeatedly (by hitting F3) and looking around for the key. That's the harder way. The easier way is to make me do it for you... right-click HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, choose Export, and save to a file on your desktop. It'll take a long time to export, so don't freak out when it hangs. The file will be 10 or 20 MB. If you have a compression utility like WinRAR, 7zip, or even Winzip, zip the file you exported at the strongest possible compression. Then PM me and I'll give you my email address so you can send the zip. I'll then find the key and make a .reg file for you to import which will delete those keys.

    Defrag.?

Yeah, I suppose that is true.

    Defrag.?

Every night? What a waste of time and disk wear/tear.
  21. Start > Run > services.msc > Standard tab Make sure DCOM Server Process Launcher is enabled, and started. If not, double click on it and set the startup type to Manual, and then click Start to start it.
  22. Pretty standard CCleaner bug. It never works on any of the Win98/WinMe systems I've ever installed it on either.
  23. Start > Run > services.msc Double-click Terminal Services, and set the Startup type to Manual. Then click Start to start the service.
