Wow...i don't know how to do this. I trid dl the .ini file to the install folder, but it didn't show up in ccleaner. Aslo it doesn't even mention iron. Can anybody make an easy to use guide (step by step) on how to do this? I'm not used to messing with ccleaners inards. Thanks.

  1. You can download a premade/blank winapp2.ini file from here.
  2. Make sure you unzip it into CCleaner's installed folder where CCleaner.exe is, by default this is:
    C:\Program Files\CCleaner
  3. Then all you have to do is open "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\winapp2.ini" in Notepad, and paste in the code listed post #8 of this topic into the blank winapp2.ini file, and click Save.
  4. Start CCleaner and you'll now see SRWare Iron listed.

Thank you for your response. I tried this exactly the way you said, but i get a message saying access is denied. Cannot create winapp2.ini. Does this have anything to do with uac? I tried turning that down, but it doesn't help. I should mention i'm using win 7 pro 64 bit. Also, i was able to look the contents of that file and all i see is this...LangSecRef. I should also mention that the ccleaner is in C:\Program Files (x86)\CCleaner

In the blank winapp2.ini download that's all that's in there is the LangSecRef and the Important Information at the end of it, it's just a template to get you started. However; You have to paste in the SRWare Iron cleaner for it to work.

If you're still having problems with this I've pre-made the winapp2.ini file which has SRWare Iron already in it, you can download it from here (only 1.05kb):

http://www.mediafire.com/?xllmzzmz3hy

As for UAC in Windows 7 I don't know, still on XP here where that doesn't exist.

Awesome! I got it to work. However, i had to do a "work-around, as i still couldn't extract the files to the ccleaner folder using winrar. What i did was open up the folder and drag your modded .ini file i dl'd onto my dektop. Then i opened up the ccleaner folder and dragged the file from my desktop to the ccleaner folder.

I closed that up, started up ccleaner, and it is now in the applications folder down at the bottom. i tried it and it works. but i had to UNCHECK all the other apps so they don't get deleted...lol. Great job, thank you very much for your patience and help. i appreciate it! The uac doesn't have anything to do with it...it's an Iron issue, I'm assuming.

i posted all this just in case anybody else using my OS was having the same problem trying to extract the .ini file to the ccleaner folder, because for whatever reason, it wouldn't do it. I just realized as I'm typing this one might be able to do it by right clicking on the file and "run as administrator". I had to do that to get iron to be my default browser. When i click on the install icon i had to right click on it, select "run as admin", then it installed and i was presented with the option to make it my default browser. Hope this is of some help in return! :)

I did all that, and it worked great with SRWare Iron 3.5 (or whatever the previous version was), but now with version 4.0, it's not working. It does not appear under the applications tab.

Thanks You people are awsome. Now I can use Iron thanks to you, and not worry about google chrome tracking me or bloated firefox.

I hate that firefox got bloated. I am a iron user now, but I wont completly give up on firefox, I will check atleast every update they make to see if they improved there problem. But it seems to me firefox went down hill scince version 2, I really didnt like when they went to version 1.5 my favorie actually was 1.07 but when I use that version now its like using a geo metro against a 66 GTO.

metalj >> "%userprofile%\local settings\application data\" >> Will only work on XP.

"%LocalAppData%\" >> Will work on XP, Vista and 7. ^_^

Not quite. %localappdata% does not work on XP, unless it is some SP3 addition. You need to add that to your environment variables manually.

Since this topic is pinned, I think it would be a great idea if I just posted here the (my) winapp2.ini sections for Chromium and Comodo Dragon, just in case somebody else asks for them. :)

Edit: added ChromePlus. Updated winapp2.ini sections (Sept 01, 2010).

HOW TO USE:

Open Notepad, paste the code of your browser into it, and save it as winapp2.ini (as type "All Files").

Now place the file on the CCleaner folder (usually C:\ -> Program Files -> CCleaner).

Make sure CCleaner is closed when you do this.

Thank you for posting those metalj, this will help allot of people.

I've updated the topic title to now reflect what this topic is about, it's now named:

Support for browsers SRWare Iron, Comodo Dragon, and Chromium

Since this topic is pinned, I think it would be a great idea if I just posted here the (my) winapp2.ini sections for Chromium and Comodo Dragon, just in case somebody else asks for them. :)

Note: If you use these two (or more) at the same time, make sure to rename the stuff between [ ], because CCleaner will not show/clean them if they have the same name!

You are right on metalj. The same name is an issue.

The saved settings for SRWare Iron look like this..

(App)Cache=True

(App)Cookies=True

(App)Internet History=True

(App)Current Session=True

(App)Last Session=True

(App)Form Data=True

And if the Comodo Dragon & Chromium cleaners are added to winapp2.ini

they will overwrite each other because the headings

(Cache,Cookies,etc..) are the same.

CCleaner has a built in solution. The "Langref" keyword.

As used in the product Langref points to internal strings by number,

but CCleaner also accepts a literal string such as: LangRef=Cache

And "Cache" is what will be displayed in the UI.

Try it with SRWare Iron.

Change section headings like this.

[*SRWare Iron - Cache]

[*SRWare Iron - Cookies]

[*SRWare Iron - Internet History]

[*SRWare Iron - Current Session]

[*SRWare Iron - Last Session]

[*SRWare Iron - Form Data]

Add the LangRef keyword to each section substituting the

original heading to the right of the equals sign.

LangRef=Cache

LangRef=Cookies

LangRef=Internet History

LangRef=Current Session

LangRef=Last Session

LangRef=Form Data

The first SRWare Iron section would end up like so..

[*SRWare Iron - Cache]

Section=SRWare Iron

LangRef=Cache

DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\SRWare Iron\Iron.exe

Default=True

FileKey1=%LocalAppData%\Chromium\User Data\Default\Cache|*.*

Your "LangRef" words will appear in the UI but CCleaner will store

the settings in ccleaner.ini or registry like this..

(App)*SRWare Iron - Cache=True

(App)*SRWare Iron - Cookies=True

(App)*SRWare Iron - Internet History=True

(App)*SRWare Iron - Current Session=True

(App)*SRWare Iron - Last Session=True

(App)*SRWare Iron - Form Data=True

Apply the same logic to Comodo Dragon & Chromium and they

all will peacefully coexist within the same winapp2.ini.

Awesome Sailback. Thank you so much for explaining that. :D

Now people using more than one of these browsers can benefit from the winapp2.ini sections without having to modify them.

This will also help me and others make new future winapp2.ini files.

Thanks a lot. :D

Why isn't this on the Docs?

Well, anyways, I've updated the code of all three apps.

Also, I've joined the two "Session" sections into one "Session Restore" section to make the code smaller, and make more room for other apps inside the CCleaner GUI.

I think we should re-create a sticky thread with only the code for the Chromium browsers and delete this one - it would help people since they wouldn't have to read an entire thread ;)

Update:

I've added ChromePlus to the list of browsers. :)

@Andavari: You should change the topic title to "Support for Chromium-based browsers".

Done, as you've requested! :)

This ini is not working for me :-( My ChromePlus install is located at C:\Users\sniskach\AppData\Roaming\ChromePlus\chrome.exe

DO I need to modify the ini to get it to work?

Did you do a default install or a custom install?

I ask because I just did a default install on my Windows XP and it installed to the Program Files folder,

and I want to know if ChromePlus installs to a different folder on Vista or if it was just you. :)

Try this other one and let me know. :)

Guys,

Newbie here. I tried to work your ini and made some modification to support Chrome Canary build but I fail.

Could you guys have try this build? The application path is just like Google Chrome.

Thanks,

Please note that by default %LOCALAPPDATA% does NOT work on XP, even with SP3

I found this useful information, If anyone has a better source please update me.

http://wapedia.mobi/en/Environment_variable?t=5.#5.

I have a cleanup script for removing remnants of a specific application.

It worked well on XP

WIN 7 has crippled CMD.EXE with JUNCTIONS (reparse points) that partially support older software designed for XP.

The command CACLS and the test "IF EXIST ..." tell lies or worse when routed via JUNCTIONS.

I fixed all my problems by starting my script with

IF "%LOCALAPPDATA%"=="" SET LOCALAPPDATA=%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data

I have problems with the detection of SRWare Iron.

Because I have SRWare on C:\Programme\Internet\SRWare Iron

Would it better to have a detection on the Registry?

like

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{C59CF2CE-B302-4833-AA35-E0E07D8EBC52}_is1

or

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\iron.exe
