  1. And yet it runs fine without the quotes here, this is the one I set up last night (for Health Check, with a notification) and it ran without problem. Which suggests that it's a difference in our Windows setups.
  2. Good to hear that you have identified the drive and have now recovered what you wanted, even though it wasn't with Recuva. As this now seems resolved I will change the title and close the thread. I would still use SeaTools to run a check/fix of the drive if you haven't already. (If you did already run it then that may be why the new recovery was sucessful). For information: WinfrGUI is simply a graphical interface for the Windows File Recovery tool which as standard runs in a command window. Not everyone is comfortable using command windows. (Although you can usually do more in a command window than in a GUI). Both Windows File Recovery and WinfrGUI can be downloaded from the Windows store.
  3. That's just a older, not strictly accurate, message in Software Updater (I should perhaps have warned you about that message). Health Check is more accurate in saying that you cannot reach the server. It's the same server in both cases. As it has been going on a fair time for you then that does tend to indicate that it is not a server fault, and so most likely to be at your end. As you have uninstalled and reinstalled CCleaner then it's unlikely to be a faulty install. 'Something' is blocking your connection to that server, so the job now is to work out what is causing that block. The most obvious suspect is an AntiVirus/Firewall, so the first question is: Are you running an AV other than Windows Defender? If you are then which AV are you using and what version number is it? What Windows version are you running? If you do have a AV installed then make CCleaner an Allow/Exception in the AV so that the AV then leaves it alone. Check again to see if Health Check (or Software Updater) can now connect to the server.
  4. I just tried it with the built in scheduler and it ran as expected here and gave a notification when it had finished, (Which is what I had set). EDIT- Set it again this time with Health Check rather than Custom Clean and that ran with no problem too. EDIT2- Just ran both /AUTO and then /AUTOSC on a desktop shortcut and they also both ran without problem. The /Auto ran silently so there was no real need for the S. (If I remember correctly from an old thread CCleaner now adds the S itself anyway) EDIT3- For completeness I also ran both /AUTO and then /AUTOSC in a command window, and then from batch files - again they both ran without problem. I did have a space between CCleaner.exe and the /Auto (or /Autosc) parameter everytime. If you don't have a space there then that could be the problem?
  5. @Trojan132 Thanks, that command line switch error is a new one that I hadn't seen mentioned before. Is that one you have set up yourself or is it using the 'Cleaning Schedule' option built into CCleaner ? Don't get me wrong here, I'm not championing the change, I'm just saying that it is what it is and so we might as well all get used to it.
  6. Agreed, but it's happened and they aren't going to take it away again. So you might as well get used to using it as it is, rather than trying to customise something that wasn't intended to be customised. Ignore how it looks and just click the one button that is all you need to click to run a clean or an analyze. That's no different to before, just one click.
  7. You know what makes me laugh? The ony real issue with this new screen, apart from the look, is that in a very limited number of circumstances where you want to change the Custom Clean ticks/unticks before cleaning then you have to make one extra click. Otherwise the 'Run Cleaner' and 'Analyze' buttons are right there, (or 'Scan' if you have Health Check set as your homepage) and you can click them before the guff on the right has even loaded. People have been (and still are) messing about with the registry, firewalls, host files, and who knows what else just for the sake of how a screen looks. How many extra clicks worth of time would you say all that was that you have been wasting?
  8. Having done a bit more looking about I now believe that what you have may be one of these, even though the number you gave doesn't match. It does seem to be an older one, so just the sort of thing that someone might replace with something newer and give away. https://www.seagate.com/support/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/backup-plus/ Does it look like that? Not very scientific I know, lots of external drive cases look alike. A more complete check would be to download SeaTools and run it. SeaTools will tell you the exact name and number(s) of the Seagate drive that you have. https://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/ If it is one of those then it can be used as a regular drive and just connected to the computers USB port (or your USB hub). As there was an issue with trying to use Recuva then I'd suggest that you also use SeaTools to check the drive. (That may take some time on a 5TB drive): TBH though as it appears that the files you are trying to recover are not something that you have lost, but files that had been deleted from the drive before it was given to you, then I'd forget about trying to recover them. For a start if the person who previously owned the drive knows what they are doing then they will have wiped it before passing it on, so all you will get will be the filenames of what used to be there.
  9. And so what did you do? It helps if you tell us as much as you can at once about what you did and what happened. Things can/will take a longer if we have to ask one question at a time. So as well as what you did and what happened: What Windows version are you using? You say you had 500GB free space, what size is the drive? I assume that it is a HDD and not a SSD?
  10. 'Donated' is an interesting choice of word, are you a charity and have had the drive given to you? So where these files on the drive when it was 'donated'? Had they been deleted before the drive was 'donated'? In other words - who put those files on the drive? how did they get 'lost'? It could make a difference. I've tried to look up that particular drive, but that designation 'SRD00F1' is not recognised by Seagate, do you have another number, possibly starting with 'STDR'? However I believe that it may be a NAS (Network Attached Storage) backup device, which would explain the M: designation. I also don't think that it is a SSD at all, but it's a spinnning disk HDD. If it is the kind of NAS device that I suspect that it may be then Recuva will not be able to recover from it, PS. A CPU is a computer chip, you can't plug a drive directly into a chip. You have plugged it into a USB port on your computer, the CPU is a chip somewhere inside that computer along with a lot of other chips. I think that we have been being confused by the wrong terminology here since the first post.
  11. Which options are you using in Defraggler? In particular are you running 'Defrag Freespace' rather than 'Defrag Freespace (allow fragmentation)'. Can you attach a screenshot? That usually gives us a better clue to what is happening.
  12. When you say "never" how long has this been going on for you? There do seem to have been a few server issues for some users this past week. (in the USA? I haven't seen a problem here in the UK) If/when it's a server at fault then all you can do is keep trying until someone fixes the server. Try using Tools>Software Updater to see if that connects. (It's bascially the same tool just accessed on it's own rather than through Health Check). Normally I'd also suggest that it might be your Antivirus/Firewall settings that could be blocking the required server, but as your screenshot shows that CCleaner is reaching the server for the 'Speed' function then such an AV block is less likely here. The email contact for CCleaner support is: support@ccleaner.com
  13. So to recap, just to make sure we are on the same page: You have a 5 Terabyte external SSD that failed. (EDIT- The drive had not failed, it was one that had been given to the OP). The drive is connected to the computer via a powered USB hub. You have reformatted the SSD, and are now trying to recover the non-deleted video files. (EDIT- The drive is not a SSD). However Recva is repeatedly unable to complete a scan of the SSD. You have changed you settings in Windows to ensure that both the drive and the USB port are not 'going to sleep'. Is all that correct, or have I misunderstood something? Reading back I see that you never actually confirmed that you have reformatted the drive because it crashed. (EDIT- The drive had not crashed) Can you tell us what make/model the drive is? Can you tell us what make/model the USB hub is?
  14. I'm just looking back at the screenshot in your first post and notice that it is drive M: which it is saying is not ready. Also it is the Source drive (the one you want to recover from) and not the Target drive (the one you are putting the recovered files on). How is drive M: connected to the computer? M: is conventionally used to designate a networked drive rather than a drive which is directly connected to the computer.
  15. Thanks for replying. That sounds like there was a server error which has now been fixed PS. We are not 'they' we are just users like yourself. When the CCleaner employees do post they use the CCleaner name and logo for their posts.
  16. As this is presumably about the same drive I have merged your 2 threads. The previous comments still stand, but as you seemed to have solved that sleeping drive 'not ready' issue then I'm not sure why you felt the need to reinstall Recuva?
  17. To reinstall CCleaner: Download the 'Slim' installer (3rd one down) from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds Double click the downloaded 'ccsetup613_slim.exe' to reinstall CCleaner. If you haven't uninstalled CCleaner Pro before doing the new install then it will pick up the existing licence key. If you have already uninstalled CCleaner Pro then the new install will be CCleaner Free, so you will have to open CCleaner and go to Options>License Key and enter your key to register it as CCleaner Pro again. If you didn't make a note of your licence key then you can look it up here: https://www.ccleaner.com/support/license-lookup
  18. You have replied to a 2 year old topic - it's to be expected that things have changed since then, Please check the date of the last post in a topic before replying.
  19. I don't know how many times we can tell you the same thing?
  20. No, using Defraggler on your SSD has not done anything to affect how your drive performs.
  21. Do you mean Performance Optimizer? Open it and click on 'Sleeping Programs' then 'Wake up'
  22. Your SSD wil be fine. You have not damaged it by using Defraggler or by stopping Defraggler mid way through. It has just used a tiny bit of the life cycle of the drive. Like taking one drop of water out of a lake. You would need to do it many times to make any difference.
  23. The button to let you manage it yourself does seem to have gone missing in the latest update. You can do it they way that you had to before that button existed, email support@ccleaner.com and ask them to cancel your subscription auto renewal.
  24. No it will not increase the speed of the SSD in any way at all. It is unnecessary, but it will not unduly harm a SSD if it is done - unless it is done many times because each time will use up a full write cycle. A few times by mistake is not a problem, but doing it regularly will shorten the lifetime of the SSD. SSDs look after themselves they have built in software to do that, with a little help from the Operating System (Windows). You have no need to Optimise (or Defragment) an SSD yourself.
