  1. Looks very cool. Says you need to Firefox to use. Not a problem for me but not every one uses Firefox.

    Eraser

Yes I read that that is why I asked here and their forum. I have version 5.82, no mistake there, but the first/last2k method is in the options still. After thinking some more about this I think I have figured this out. The problems were with selecting first/last2k method when wiping the free space on the whole disk. In the eraser options there is two parts to the erasing options. One for files and one for the disk. The first/last2k method is not in the disk part of the options but it still is in the file part. Maybe they mean it was removed from the disk part of the options only since that was where the problems were? If it's that dangerous it should be totaly removed. Any ways still no response from their forum. Doesn't surprise me. Looking through their forum there are many threads with no responses in them.

    Eraser

I have seen this app mentioned often here. I have researched this app and read the reviews and all the info on the Eraser site. From what I have read this program is very dangerous if you use the 5.80 or 5.81 version. There is a erasing option called first/last2k method that will trash your hard drive. Version 5.82 is supposed to have fixed this issue. From what I have read the option has been removed. Well I have downloaded and installed 5.82 and that option is still present. I know not to use it but I thought it was supposed to be removed from the app. I have verified that I have version 5.82 and I downloaded it from the Eraser home page. I have asked about this on their forum but no replys yet. What version are the people here using? If you are using 5.82 is the first/last2k method still in the eraser options?
  4. Thanks MajoMo. Here is what is going on. When I installed Jk Defrag GUI to C:/Program Files/JK Defrag I right clicked on the JKDefragGUi.exe and selected "pin to start menu". This created a start menu entry and caused the problems I explained earlier. I followed your instructions but when I right clicked on the start menu entry for JK DefragGUi.exe I didn't get the options you advised me to change. So I went into C:/Program Files/JK Defrag and right clicked the JKDefragGUI.exe and selected create short cut. This created a short cut entry in the folder. Than I right clicked that short cut and selected pin to start menu and it works fine. I guess you have to create a short cut first than pin it to the start menu. Just right clicking the exe and selecting "pin to start menu" didn't work properly this time. Learn something new every time I visit this forum.
  5. You are right it is a short cut problem. This only happens when I use the short cut. What I did was pin JKDefragGUI.exe to the start menu for easy access. I checked the properties and it is pointing to C:/Program Files/JK Defrag which is where I have the program installed. I don't understand why all these files are being created in C:/Documents and Settings/User Name when I use the short cut?
  6. I didn't open the GUI file in C:/Documents and Settings/User Name. I down loaded and extracted the package to C:/Program Files/JK Defrag. When I use JK Defrag it is recreating most of the install files in C:/Documents and Settings/User Name. Even when I delete the files in C:/Documents and Settings/User Name they get recreated when I use JK Defrag. Is that clearer now?
  7. OK thanks. While I was looking around in the folders I noticed some weird folder activity with JK Defrag. I have it installed in C:/Program Files/JK Defrag. I just unzipped it there. Well looking around it seems that JK Defrag duplicates most of it's files in C:/Documents and Settings/User Name. They are not in a folder they are just sitting there. It looks like most of the contents from JK Defrag GUI. I deleted this stuff and when I ran JK Defrag it recreated that stuff again in the same spot. I checked this out on two machines and it's the same on both. Take a look and see if you have these files I'm talking about. Very strange.
  8. So you mean just unzip it to the folder I have the older version in and let it over write the current contents?
  9. There is a new release of the GUI for JK Defrag. Here is the link http://www.emro.nl/freeware Since this does not require an "install" since you just unzip it to a folder how do you update to the new version from the older version? When I select update from within the older version it downloads the new zip. Am I supposed to delete the older version or just unzip the new one over the older one. 99% of my installed programs just update and do their thing these so called "no install" programs are a little different.
  10. Was looking through the recent thread about tweaking Firefox and there was a link to a Firefox tweak guide. Well that guide was from a page where there are many other tweak guides. On this site is two user guides, one for XP and the other for Vista. These are the best guides I have seen for Windows yet. They are in PDF format and they are between 2-3 MB in size and free for download. The XP one is over 170 pages long and covers every thing you can imagine. This is what should have come with Windows. Everybody, even advanced users, will learn something from these guides. These will be going on all my machines and family and friends machines. They are layed out in a very easy to use way and explain things in a way even beginners will be able to understand. http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html
  11. Yep that is where I seen it. This is the direct link to the app http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable I think I will try these two USB versions just for fun. I have tried every imaginable browser already and have 6 installed on all my machines. Does anybody know if you can install skins and extensions on these portable apps? What about updates? Do you just run the browser and check for updates like you do with your installed versions?
  12. I think there is a Firefox version of this to.
  13. They can change the "version" number, date, or what ever but it's the same tool and MS is just playing games with this different "version" thing. They are installing spy ware on your system. They are trying to sneak it in as a 'critical update" and even worse than that they are trying to install this spyware in their antispy ware program definition updates. How screwed up is that? I am seriously considering removing Windows Defender since this program which is supposed to protect me from spyware is in fact now a source of spyware from Microstupid.
  14. Does CCleaner clean up Google Earth? I can see the cache getting out of hand.
  15. This is just harassment from Microstupid. They are sending this update out with the Windows Defender updates as well. Yesterday was the second time they have tried slipping this by me. I am going to disable automatic updates from now on and check manually with the update site when updates are released. They are more concerned about annoying people than making decent software.

  17. Looks like I'm not the only one annoyed by this. What removal tool are you referring to?
  18. I did choose to hide on the Microsoft Site. More than once. When you go to that site you can also choose to see what you have hidden and restore the hidden updates if you want. I have hidden the Notification Tool update and checked the hidden updates and it is hidden but still they send it.
  19. As I said in the first line of my post I have rejected it and hid it several times. It's the principal of the thing. The tool is a redundant thing. Once the Validation Tool is installed you have proven that your copy of Windows is legit. This Notification Tool is for those that do not have a legit copy. My copy is legit, all my copy's are legit, so MS can stop trying to install crap on my machines. The fact that I hid it and they still send it is just plain harassment. I have verified that it is hidden because when I go to the Update site and run the check for updates it informs me I have hidden updates. When I check them it is the Notification Tool. So it is hidden yet they keep trying to sneak it buy. The really annoying part is they send this update along with the regular Tuesday updates but also with the Windows Defender Updates like today. Maybe MS should spend less time harassing people and more time making software that works properly.
  20. This tool helps remove programs that were installed using Windows Installer. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
  21. Microstupid keeps trying to sneak this piece of garbage onto my machines with Automatic Updates. I have set my Windows Updates to notify me but not download and install so I just keep rejecting this update and hiding it but every few weeks the retards keep trying to sneak this buy me. It is really pi$$ing me off now. I already had to install the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool. Any body that wants to use the Windows Update site or download MS software has to. I did this and MS knows I have a legit copy of Windows. This apparently isn't enough for these clowns. They want to slip this Notification Tool as well so if you are one of those that don't have a legit copy they can harass you constantly with balloon messages. This really bugs me. Obviously Windows Updates knows your system config thats how it determens what updates you need. There is no reason than for them to be trying to install this notification tool. When Updates looks at your system it should be able to determen that you have installed the Validation Tool and have a legit copy of Windows. On the same note Updates should also know who has a illegal copy. Send them the Notification Tool and stop trying to install crap on my machine. There is definitely a Mac purchase in my future.
  22. Thanks that is a cool site.
  23. Found the info here. http://earth.google.com/support/bin/answer...&topic=1135

    Opera question

All In One Side Bar is much nicer than Opera's side bar although Opera's is nice too. The switch for the side bar in Opera does have to be enabled. He can do that using the same instructions I gave him earlier.
