  1. According to the user guide AVG is compatible with Vista http://free.grisoft.com/filedir/doc/AVG_7....uma_en_75_6.pdf Also this is from the AVG forum http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php...6,backpage=,sv=
  2. I finally installed and tried out Zsoft Uninstaller. So I downloaded a few programs that claim to not need to be installed. Well according to the logs created by Zsoft Uninstaller these programs do create a lot of files and reg entries. Sure looks like an install to me.
  3. I like to read the user guide for an app before I install it. I asked the author of Zsoft Uninstaller to provide me with a copy since I could not find much info on how to use the program online. He was nice enough to provide it for me. If anybody is curious about this program and wants to look it over before installing here is the link he provided for me. http://www.zsoft.dk/downloads/Uninstaller.HLP
  4. What program where you using to track the installs? Zsoft or TU? Just curious why you tracked the installs and updates but did not use it to remove the install.
  5. I not sure I understand how that works for Zsoft Uninstaller? Lets say you have analyzed your install of Firefox. Zsoft creates the log file showing the things added to your system from the install. Now Firefox has an update. You analyze again before the update and create another log file for the update? Than if you decide to uninstall Firefox you select uninstall for both those entries? Is that how it works for updates?
  6. Pass words and product keys are 1of thousands of things SIW shows you.
  7. Yeah there is a lot of info to look at with this program. I have been going over every little thing and it's taking hours. I am picky though and am trying to find out what half of it means. It's scary how it shows all the pass words and secret stuff. Look under the "software" section and go to the last item in the tree. It's called secrets and it shows all the password and secrets. Probably why it's called secrets Even showed my key I use for my wireless router. I wonder if it shows this info if you put the app on a USB drive and use it on somebody else's system? I know it will run and show most every thing from the USB but I wonder about the pass words and other private info? It sure shows it on the system it's down loaded to though.
  8. Read the FAQ from the home page link. The guy talks about that. There are few anti virus programs that do that for this program. It has something to do with the programs ability to read your pass words and things like that. It's on two of my machines and none of the 8 malware programs I have detect anything suspicious. I did a Google search on SIW and not one complaint about it. It's listed on several of those top free ware lists like this one http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,124883-p...re/article.html and this one http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm I don't blame you for being cautious but the program is clean.
  9. I sure many of you have probably heard of System Information For Windows (SIW). Maybe you haven't? Any ways I have downloaded this thing and it is very cool. Any thing you could possibly want to know about your computer is on this thing. There is literally hundreds of things it monitors and lists for you. Want to know the temp your processor is running at? It will tell you. Forgot some pass words in Firefox or IE? It will show you them. Do you know the specs of all the hardware on your machine? Do you even know all the hardware you have? This will tell you. I have been looking through all the things it lists (has to be thousands of things) for the last few hours! Still have much more to see. All this in a free program that is about 1.3 MB and No install required. Put the exe in a folder and done. Just run it. Can run it from a USB stick on any computer and get all the info you can possibly handle from that system is seconds. This program is listed on all the major sites and gets great reviews. I have yet to see a negative thing. This is the link to the home page for it. http://www.gtopala.com/ Here is some links to reviews: http://www.snapfiles.com/opinions/SIW/SIW.html http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/SIW/1097934999/1 Here is a link to a screen shot tour of the UI http://lifehacker.com/software/information...-siw-236760.php
  10. I seen that one when I was searching. It's not free.
  11. I'm liking it so far. I will keep it just for the ability to list installed programs by install date. Can't do that with Add/Remove Programs. Also lists things that Add/Remove doesn't so I can uninstall things that Add/remove can't/won't. Lots of other cool things to.
  12. The second one does just run the applications own uninstall. I wasn't looking at it though as a Zsoft or Total Uninstall replacement though. It's really just a replacement for Add/Remove programs. It's pretty good at that though. I have downloaded it. It's tiny and does not require an install. Just unzip it to a folder and your done. It lists everything on your computer. Well more then Add/Remove programs does and has some other useful info as well. Loads much faster than Add/Remove programs does to. It is just a better version of Add/Remove Programs sort of like how Process Explorer is a better version of Task Manager. As for the other one, yeah not much about it out there thats why I asked about it. Zsoft Uninsatller isn't to well known either though. I never heard about it until it was mentioned on this forum. I am going to try Zsoft though.
  13. I found the second one from The 46 Best Ever Free Ware Utilities List I am sure you heard of. Well the guy who does that list has an extended list 47-103 and it's in that list. Most of the programs he recommends are usually well regarded. Here is the link to the extended list http://www.techsupportalert.com/more/extended.htm
  14. There is a couple threads here recently about some uninstall programs. Total Uninstall and Zsoft Uninstall. While searching these two programs on Google I came across a few more free ones and am wondering if anyone has used them and are they any good? The first one is similar to the above mentioned two. It monitors changes a program makes when installed makes before and after comparisons and you can delete all the changes. It's called My Uninstaller. Here is the link http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-...installer.shtml The second one is really a replacement for Windows Add/Remove Programs. It's faster and gives much more info and other options like sort order and other things. Funny enough it's also called My Uninstaller. Totally different program though and author/programmer. Here is the link http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/myuninst.html
  15. They fixed it already. So yes my update did work perfectly after all.
  16. I see where they are selling upgrade versions of Vista. I assume you have to install this over XP. So if later on your hard drive fails or something happens that requires a reinstall of your operating system you have to reinstall XP than install the Vista Upgrade again?
  17. I don't understand. Why would you delete the installation folder for a program you want to keep?
  18. Well it seems the problem isn't with Firefox but with the Addon site. I just installed some of the older themes just to try and they installed fine. It appears to be some of the newly added themes that are not installing on the most current version of Firefox. Try installing this and see what happens https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/4585/ If you like Mac themes than you will like the themes for Maxthon 2. Very nice Mac themes.
  19. I already have that theme installed. I like Mac themes. I started a thread over at the FX forums and there seems to be many people having the issue. They seem to think it might be a Addon site problem. Apparently it happened before. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=525333 Did you just install that theme or was it already installed? I have no problems with my currently installed 9 themes I just can't download anymore.
  20. So was I until I tried to install a new theme. Try installing a theme from the addon site and see if it works for you. There are several threads on the Firefox forum about this problem. Many have had this issue since the last update.
  21. Well I spoke too soon looks like. I just tried to install some themes and keep getting an error message. It says it can't download the file from the site and the error is -228. I read what causes this from the knowledge base but none of the fixes are working. Everything else seems OK though.
  22. Well I updated the other two machines I have Firefox on and it went well. Runs great.
  23. This might be too obvious but did you set the country you wanted in the Google Tool Bar Options? In the options click on the search box settings. There is a drop down box with many different countries for Google.
  24. I agree. When I made my comment I was thinking about the people on this forum that are having issues with Firefox 2. Look at this recent thread. http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=9077
  25. Two extensions that I use a lot lately are Cooliris and Rewind/Fast forward. Cooliris is great. You basically just place your cursor over a link and it opens a window to that page. This window preview is active meaning you can click on links within it or scroll or whatever. Great for forums. There is a version for IE6,Flock, Mac, as well as the Firefox version. They are going to release a IE7 version very soon. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2207/ Rewind/Fast forward works just like it does in Opera. https://addons.mozilla.org/search.php?q=rew...amp;app=firefox
