    IE 7

Well Maxthon is really just a big addon for IE. I would think it could cause some problems when updating to IE7 if it was installed when the update is done. I have a feeling that this roll out of IE7 is going to be a night mare for many. I am going to hold off on it untill I see how it goes.

rridgely, You say that Maxthon is working fine. Did you uninstall Maxthon before you installed IE7 or did you just install IE7 and leave Maxthon as it was? I have read that it might be a good idea to uninstall any IE plugins/addons like Google Tool Bar as well as the shell browsers that run off it like Maxthon/Avant before you install IE7. Than after IE7 is installed you can reinstall them again.

Thanks for those links I will read that over. Can you or some one else using IE7 check to see if it has Full Screen and Autohide please.

    IE 7

What is this site advisor you refer to? Couple more questions about IE7. Is there a full screen mode like IE6 has? In IE6 I just press the full screen button I place on the tool bar and all tool bars and the task bar dissapear. IE6 also has auto hide so all I need to do is put the cursor at the top of the screen and all the tool bars appear and when I move the cursor away they dissapear again. I love this feature. What about IE7? Is anybody using the Google Tool Bar with IE7 and if so how is it working? Is anybody using Maxthon with IE7. How is this going? Is there user guide for IE7 that I can get before I install and use IE7?
  6. I received the updates Tuesday and the icon in the system tray appeared no problem and when I selected to down load nothing happened. So I used the update site and that worked. Now I know why.
  7. Those are the four I use already as well as CW shredder I also use AVG Antivirus and have Bitdefender online scanner and CA online scanner. I like both these online scanners. I have been having some trouble with the CA on line scanner lately though. It seems to finish the scan in less than a minute and says no problems detected but only scans 29,000 files and finishes the scan. It doesn't crash or hang it just finishes before it should. It works great on the other computers though. Was that the online scanner?
  8. If by back ups you mean quarantined items there is a quarantine section in the GUI and you simply select what you want restored and click restore and the items are put back. Too bad the thing is full of false positives because it is a nice scanner and I really like the GUI. Here is a link to the help for it and there are lots of pics of the interface and step by step instructions on how to use it. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/info/a2ax/ As for the file I could not delete well I just went and tried again and it deleted no problem. You have to change it from read only (which I did before). The dll thing must have been because something was using it at the time or what ever but it deleted no problem. The path is C/Documents and Settings/user name/local settings/temp/a2onlinescan. It's about 10mb.
  9. I tried this out on a computer today and find this scanner interesting. It has a nice interface lots of options for scanning and will clean as well as scan. This program manges to quarantine as well even though it is a online scanner. The problem I have with it is that it quarantines things in a folder that is placed in the temp folder. No worries about deleting this folder and quarantined items because I can't delete this folder even if I want to. When I tried to uninstall the scanner by removing the active x control in the browser, it removed the active x control no problem but the 10 mb folder in the temp file was still there and will not delete. When I right click it and try it says it can't be deleted so I went to properties and unchecked read only. tried to delete it again and got a different message about a dll that could not be removed and something about the disk being read only. Any body else use this scanner and know how to get rid of this folder. I ran CCleaner before this scan and Ad-Aware wich detected nothing. Ran the quick scan with a-squared and it found over 50 items. Many were registry items. Either this scanner is loaded with false positives or Ad-Aware is junk. Any one have any experience with this scanner?
  10. Those tweaks have been around for a while and they have been proven to be useless and even negative for FF performance. Check this out from the FF forums http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.ph...ight=pipelining
  11. OK thank you. One more question. Lets say you skip a update than another one comes out a little while later so now you are two versions behind. Can you still install over the copy you have installed or does that only work for updates that are current?
  12. I noticed a new version of CCleaner is available. If I choose to install it will I have to remove/uninstall my current version or do I install right over it. What will happen to my winapp2.ini? Thank You.
  13. OK thanks. The only other one in there I see that I can use is the Down Loaded installations mentioned all ready. This folder is safe to delete? You said in contained set up files in case you need to reinstall. If you emptied this folder are you saying the programs could not be reinstalled if need be?
  14. Sounds like you are using the whole list of winapp2.ini application that is listed here http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1110. I thought you were supposed to just copy and paste the ones you wanted/need to your winapp2 file?
  15. I was spretty sure that it was/is not melware but I was concerned that my problems with Norton lately might have messed something up.
  16. I should have followed up on this thread when I received this info so I will now. I posted in the official AVG forum and asked about this. I even posted the link to this thread. The moderator there was very short and to the point and said there is no problem with AVG and CCleaner and that he has been using it no problem. Also as I was looking through the forums there and reading up on some of the problems people have with AVG some of the solutions are to clear out certain folders and files. This is especially true for definition update problems. The folders and files that were recommended to be cleaned are actually some of the ones that CCleaner cleans out for you. It looks like regularly using CCleaner with AVG is actually good for AVG. http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php...8,backpage=2,sv=
  17. The laptop came from Dell with Norton Internet Security installed but nothing else from Norton. Worst part about this is that Dell has a feature where if you need to reinstall your operating system you push a few keys and it does this within the lap top with no need for a disk and only takes a few minutes. Guess what? It returns your computer to the way it was when you bought it which means Norton IS will be installed again. I can tell you this much, if my operating system ever needs to be reinstalled/recovered I will not go through having to remove Norton again. I will MAKE sure that I have to have the hard drive (under warranty for 2 years) "replaced". It will suddenly experience total failure.
  18. Think I might have found out what might be happening with the favicons. Just prior to this happening my Google Tool Bar auto updated to version 4 which includes a book mark button. I already had all my book marks backed up online with Google Book Marks. So now with the new book mark feature in the tool bar I simply click the button and my book marks drop down in a menu like they do with the favorites button for IE. All my Google book marks have favicons when viewed with the button on the tool bar within my browser. I think this is connected in some way to whats going on. My IE book marks do not have favicons showing. I can't think of what else this can be.
  19. I used 3 tools for the removal of Norton. This was done over the phone with a Norton technical person. MSIFIX.bat file SymNRT.exe file SYMMSICCLEANUP.reg file In addition a Norton rep walked me through manually removing left over reg stuff. According to CCleaner those steps did not remove it all yet.
  20. In addition to some of the ones already mentioned I really like Viamatic Foxpose https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1457/ Autohide. This extension gives you full control over what bars appear in full screen mode. You make them all disappear and they will appear again when you move the cursor to them like in IE. Full autohide was the one thing Firefox was missing compared to IE for me. This is not from the the official addon site but it was recommended by many of the knowledgeable people on the Firefox forums. I have been using for a long time and it works great. http://www.krickelkrackel.de/autohide/
  21. System restore does not always work. Recently I had Norton IS go BANG on me. When I tried a system restore it said it was unable to restore my system to the date I selected. Dell Customer service told me that Norton was to badly corrupted for system restore to restore back to the date I wanted. The person went on to explain that if the changes you make are too big than System restore won't work. For example delete a major program and than try to restore to the day previous to you deleting it. I don't think that will work. Besides the changes I will be making will be registry changes. CCleaner has found some left over junk from my Norton removal. I am going to let it fix those problems when I get the nerve up. Windows security Center says Norton is still running and up to date HA HA. There are two entries in the things CCleaner found I think might be the problem. There are two registry keys, one for Norton IS start up and one for Norton Antivirus start up. I think that is why Windows Security Center thinks Norton is still installed.
  22. So the back up copy of your registry is really only good in case any immediate changes you make to the registry mess up? Than if they mess up you just merge the backed up copy and revert back to your previous configuration. If you make any more changes since you created the back up than you loose those if you use the back up. So the proper course of action is 1) back up registry 2) make changes that need to be made 3) if everything works great, leave as is 4) if the changes messed something up merge the backed up copy and revert back to the previous configuration. 5) make new back up before any new changes to registry because the previous backed up copy is now outdated with the current state of your system. Correct?
  23. Lets say you back up the registry and than make some changes. Than you use the computer for about a week or two and down load some programs (like installing a new anti virus program for instance) and than you think you have a problem that is related to the changes you made to the registry. If you use the backed up version of the registry would this cause more problems than it would fix? I guess I need to know how long a backed up copy of the registry is really useful for. Every program you add and remove etc will make changes to the registry so your backed up copy will be outdated pretty quickly. Reverting back to the backed up copy will probably mess up you programs that have been installed since that copy was backed up right? Or am I off base with this?
