    Opera question

Do you mean move the side bar to the right? If so right click the side bar and select customize and select the "panel tab" In the dialog box you will see a drop down box called "panel placement". Select right side. Thats how I have my Opera as well. How do you do that for IE7? In Firefox I use the All In One Side Bar extension to do it.
  2. Why is a program like this necessary? I have never used them and I don't get any malware. Isn't your AV, real time AS (if you run it which I don't), and anti phishing like IE7 and Fire Fox has built in enough? I only run AVG AV real time. No AS or anti phishing and I never get anything. I run 8 different Malware scans once a week (AVG AV and AS, A- Squared, SAS, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, CW Shredder and Windows Defender. Always clean. You guys must be doing a lot of porno surfing.
  3. I hear you with that but the difference in the graph is huge after defragging with JK Defrag. I have done this on 1 desktop and two laptops now and it's the same on all of them.
  4. Just installed Jk Defrag on one of my Dell Laptops. 80 GIG HD defraged using the full optimization method in 7 Min How hard could my HD be working in that time frame?
  5. OK I see that now thanks. That file is saved in the temp folder though. It's not saved in the program folder. When I run JK Defrag exe the file is saved in the program folder. It's only when I run the GUI exe that the file is saved in the temp. Wonder why that is. CCleaner cleans my temp folder and I run CCleaner several times a day so I don't like that set up. On the positive side that app does a great job of defragging. I ran Auslogics Defrag. Than I went into the Windows Defrag and "analyzed". Should look like a solid blue bar with some green areas once it's defraged. Never does though, there seems to always be some breaks in there and it was no different this time with Auslogics but it was much faster. So I ran JK Defrag on the "analyze, defragment and full optimization" setting. Took about 20 min to finish. Than I went into the Windows Defrag and "analyzed" again. The chart was a solid blue block with one green block. I have never seen it look that continuous before. And even though this is not the fastest setting for JK Defrag it's still much faster than the built in Windows Defrag.
  6. OK, I unzipped the GUI to a folder and created a desk top short cut to launch the app. I selected analyze which it did in about 1 min. Where are the results? Is there supposed to be some kind of report to show what was found when analyzed?
  7. Is this the one you are referring to? This is the one I like. http://www.emro.nl/freeware
  8. I am going to try the JKDefrag. How do you install the GUI? Unzip it to the same folder as JKDefrag?
  9. Installed Auslogics to try out. Finished the defragging of a 230+ GB disk in 2 minutes Hmm, got to wonder how thorough this is. The disk was recently defragged with the built in Windows defragger about a month ago. The report at the end of the Auslogics defragging said that there would be an increase of 1% in disk performance. Obviously this disk was already in good shape before the defrag. Still that is fast. Super easy interface. Three clicks, desktop short cut and next button, and you are defragging.
  10. I know what ones are out there. After much reviewing I have narrowed it down to the two I mentioned. I just want to know if any body has experienced any problems with those two similar to the problems that are discussed in the link I provided.
  11. I am looking at two specifically. Auslogics and JK Defrag. I'm a little cautions about defrag programs though. Seems installing these cam mess up the Windows built in defrager if you try and uninstall the third party defrager. I read this http://www.andreasroom.com/blog/archive/20.../18/defrag.aspx and it has me a little nervous. I don't know if it's 3rd party programs that replace the Windows defrager that cause the problems or others as well. Any body have any problems from the two programs I mentioned?
  12. Well I decided after much reviewing to download and install 7-Zip. Very small app. About 800 kb download and is just about 2.5 MB installed. Tracked the install with Zsoft Uninstaller and 7-Zip creates a very small foot print. Worked perfectly for the files I needed to unpack. I seriously doubt that I will be using file types this can't handle. My second choice was Zip Genius. It just seemed like much more program than I needed. I don't really have a need for an app to compress files I really just needed an unpacker. 7-Zip was so small, even compared to apps that just unpack, so I installed it and now I can also use it to pack files to if the need arises.
  13. Yes it (IZArc) looks like a nice program and gets good reviews. I cannot seem to find a forum for it though and that is something I consider seriously when deciding between programs. All other things being equal between two apps I will choose the one with a help forum every time.
  14. Thats exactly why I need a program like this. I have come accross a couple occassions that the built in Windows XP program can't open rar files.

    AVG

The thread IS closed because it is a Sticky. It is not inteneded to be replyed to. It's posted at the very top of one of their forums since "How to uninstall and reinstall AVG" is such a common question. here is a link to the forum. The sticky is the 4th one down http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/list.php?2 The link you provided is almost exactly the same instructions though except that it also explains the "repair option" as well as the uninstall option.
  16. I need to install a program for unzipping files. Recently came across some files that the Windows XP built in program can't unzip. So I searched this forum and several others as well as Googled this and have narrowed it down to 3 possibilitys. 7 Zip, IZArc, and Zip Genius. These seem to be the three top free ware recommendations. They have there pluses and minuses. ZG seems to be bloated in comparison. 7 Zip doesn't handle as many types of files as the other two. IZArc has no forum to get help when I have an issue. ZG has a nice web page with a thorough help file and well layed out forum to get help. So what do people recommend from these 3 and why? I am looking at IZArc but the lack of a forum is a big negative for me.

    AVG

I would add that if you are going to uninstall AVG and reinstall that you should follow the proper procedure for this. It isn't just a matter of removing AVG with Add/Remove programs and than reinstalling. There is a procedure that AVG recommends on their forum. Here is the link to the sticky thread at their forum about uninstalling/reinstalling AVG http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php...8,backpage=,sv=
  18. I have a question for you? In this entry REG ADDED! HKU S-1-5-21-682003330-412668190-2146912999-1003\Software\Google\Google Desktop\HistoricalCapture capture_component_indexer_stats bin:RgAAAFEAAAAEAAAAAA[output cut] See the part that says bin: than a string of text? It says [output cut]. Did you put that bracketed part saying output cut or did that line go on for several lines? I ask because I installed a program the other day and used Zsoft uninstaller to track it. When I looked at the log it had a similar entry to yours but the string of text after bin: was 6 lines long. There were two sections like this. One for REG added and another for REG deleted.

    AVG

That is the default set up on install. It should just be starting and closing with Windows. I have installed AVG AV probably 20 times now on different machines and it's about as close as it gets to install and forget for a program. Runs, updates, scans right out of the box. Of course you can change the update times and scan times to some thing more convenient but if you did nothing but a default install it will work great on it's own without having to do anything.
  20. Never mind I figured it out.
  21. I installed Abiword recently. It seems like a nice app. I am playing around with it and trying to get used to it. It seems to have made it's self my default word processor. When I open emails with some documents or links in a page that require a word processor to view Abiword is the default. How do I change this? Even MS Word Documents open with Abiword now.

    cookies

I said I don't have the problem of cookies not being saved for IE7. I have index dat checked as well and it's not causing me a problem.
  23. One of the positive features of that app is that it does not require an install. It sure does leave a foot print for something that doesn't install.
  24. OK, than were in agreement that there is some kind of foot print left behind by these so called "no install" apps. To me it's clear they do some kind of install. So if you down load these thinking they don't leave anything behind because they are "no install" apps think again.
  25. Yes I get that. Those programs such as SIW that don't require an install create many REG entries when downloaded and run. I used Zsoft uninstaller to check a few. I used Zsoft to do a before analyze. Than unzipped Autoruns from Systeminternals to a folder and ran the exe. Than did a after analyze with Zsoft Uninstaller and this created a install log. I opened it and there were probably 30 reg entries created.
