    Firefox 3

I have 20 processes on one machine and 21 on another. I went through all my running processes and services. Googled each one and found out what was safe to disable. When I bought the Dell lap top their were over 50 processes running in Task Manager. I have lost 0 functions since I killed off the junk. Absolutely insane the amount of crap they have starting with the machines.

OK, I agree Sounded like you were complaining.

What theme is that you are using on the bottom screen shot? I know the top one is Blue Ice.

You are complaining about 42 MB of ram usage from Firefox? I have 6 browsers installed and none of them use less than that. In fact they all use significantly more. Firefox launches at 40+ on 3 different machines here. I am curious what other browsers you use that you are comparing to?
  5. Yeah AVG is very light on resources so that's not a problem but the other things listed in that knowledge base article I linked provide a case to not scan the e mail. Gmail scans your mail when it gets to them. My ISP scans e mails before they get to Thunderbird. If something makes it by these scanners it won't do any damage unless I open the mail and I won't do that. If I did the real time protection/shield of AVG should take care of it. Seems the e mail scanner is over kill.
  6. I recently installed Thunderbird. I was using web mail and e mail scanning by my anti virus program was a non issue. Now that I installed Thunderbird I have activated the e mail scanning component of AVG. It seems this is not necessary and a case can be made that it's actually a bad thing to do. How many people using an e mail program installed on their machine use the e mail scanning from their anti virus program? Do you just let the real time/shield protect your machine? Here is a link to an article in the Thunderbird knowledge base about some of the pros and cons of using the e mail scanner. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Email_scanning_-_pros_and_cons
  7. Process Explorer does this. That app just does what CCleaner, Autoruns, Process Explorer, and My Uninstaller already do.
  8. I'll wait for the GUI version to be updated.
  9. What I'm guessing happened is that Firefox auto updated because they just released a update. Often when this happens your firewall will block Firefox because it thinks it's a new program because of the update and you have to re allow Firefox access to the internet. If you go to the Firefox forums you will see many threads about Firefox not being able to connect to the internet after an update and it's almost always because of the firewall. Check and see if you are running Firefox 2.0.0.4 if you are than it updated and your Mom blocked it when it was trying to connect. She should have allowed it. It is very common for Firefox updates to do this.
  10. Do you mean hide the tab bar when only one tab is open? If so can't do it in IE7.
  11. I ordered over the phone so I could talk/argue with the sales person and get exactly what I wanted. I looked at what I wanted on line from the Dell site first than called and talked to a sales person and added/removed things that I could only do by talking to a sales person. You said earlier that the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor at 2.0 GHz was the most you could upgrade to. Well I can assure you they have better chips than that. That online thing of Dell's is very limiting. Get an idea of what you want from it than call and talk to them and go from there. Dell like most places confuse can't with won't. If I had a dime for every time I have been told can't when what they are really saying is won't I would be a millionaire. These clowns just need some one to unconfuse them. They act like they are doing you a favor by selling you the product. I straighten that misconception out really quick.
  12. Are you just looking at the online thing where you build your computer? Talk to a rep and you will get much farther. Also don't be afraid to push these clowns and if need be tell them to shove the PC up their a$$ if you don't get what you want.
  13. My newest laptop is a 17 inch Dell Inspiron. It has 2 gig of ram and a 160 GB hard. My processor is a Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 (2.16 GHz). Other than the fact I had to argue with the clowns to make sure it didn't come preinstalled with junk I have been pretty happy with the Machine. Why do you think the 2.0 GHz is the highest upgrade they offer? Mine is one up from the one you mentioned and there was another one up from that at 2.33 GHz. If I remember correctly there are 4 Intel Core 2 Duo processors for laptops and the one you mentioned was second from the bottom.
  14. I have 2 Gmail, 3 Yahoo, and a Hotmail account. What I have done is added them all to my Gmail by creating "customized from addresses". So now I just have to use my Gmail and I can send e mails from anyone of my accounts. I also use the Google Toolbar in Firefox and this lets me set Gmail as my default email program when using that browser. This is how you use the "customize from addresses" http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=22376 I just prefer the Gmail interface to all others and I prefer web mail to regular e mail programs that you install on the machine. I can access the e mail easily from any other machine with a internet connection.
  15. Usually I don't like that but I have not had a problem with SAS updates yet. I usually prefer when programs update less often but take their time and release stable updates.
  16. They seem to be releasing program updates almost monthly.
  17. Well I have to admit I didn't check that but I didn't see it either. When I blocked their address in Yahoo Mail they kept sending me stuff and using different Panda addresses. I swear I blocked like 7 different addresses before the spam stopped.
  18. OK thanks I understand. It worked as you explained on one of my machines that I just checked.
  19. If you use the Panda scan be prepared to have your a$$ spammed off. They require an e mail address and they use it. I wouldn't touch that scanner with a ten foot pole ever again.
  20. I don't think I am explaining myself properly so I will try again. When I right click on your subscription on ABP preferences there is an option to update the subscription. When I select this it says the date and time and that the download was successful. This info is on a line called Status: This info is updated every time I manually update like I just did before I posted this. If I don't manually update the Status: line does not update the info so I can't tell if the subscription auto updated or not.
  21. OK thanks. So the status message indicating the last download was successful is only if I manually update the subscription? If I don't manually update again ABP will do it automatically but there is no message or status indicator anywhere to verify this?
  22. How often do these filters auto update? When I look at the filter in my ABS preferences it says Status: updated automatically;Last download: Friday, May 18 2007 6:52:56 PM (success) I can right click the subscription and select "update subscription now" and that will change the status but I have not seen it do it automatically yet.
  23. Why not add IE Spell to IE7? It's a great spell checker and free. http://www.iespell.com/ Google Tool Bar has a good spell checher to for IE. I have both installed in IE7. IE Spell also works in Maxthon or any of the other IE shell browsers.
  24. Yes, exactly. As for IE7 zoom I find it messes some pages up to. Opera has the best zoom. I don't use it much either but it's nice when I need it. It's no big deal that Firefox doesn't have it yet but it is a feature, along with Fit to Width, that Opera has and Firefox doesn't.
  25. What I mean by zoom is the drop down menu that goes from 20%-1000% in Opera. Firefox has text size increases but does not zoom any where near as good as Opera. I have tried all the zoom addons and they are not as nice. As for zooming pictures the extension for Firefox that does that is Image Zoom and I use it. It's very nice but different than Opera zoom. Here is a little write up by the author of a Firefox zoom extension explaining what I am talking about when I say Firefox does not have Opera Zoom. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1499
