  1. There is an extension for Thunderbird that will give you pop access for all the web mails like Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail and some others. I just use Gmail for web mail now so it's no problem with TB I don't need that extension. Here is the link http://webmail.mozdev.org/index.html
  2. I will have to try this out. I am a browser junkie. I have tried probably all of them and have six installed right now. I love tweaking them and trying the different addons/extensions. I always liked the look of Safari. I have several skins for Opera, Firefox, Maxthon1 and 2 that are Safari themes.
  3. Well Yahoo mail does not allow free pop access here in North America. Lucky for you Dennis you will be able to set up Gmail and Yahoo Mail in Thunder Bird free of charge.
  4. We posted at the same time Glad you figured it out. I am really liking Thunderbird 2.
  5. You should have an option for Gmail account. Select that one not e mail. Go to tools->account settings. At the bottom it will say "add an account". Click it and a diolog will pop up with 4 options for accounts. Select Gmail NOT e mail. It's built right into the account set up wizard.
  6. rridgely, I am the one who said Thunderbird 2 sets up Gmail for you with out the need to enter the server info. It's one of the features Thunderbird highlights on their home page about whats new in Thunderbird 2. If you are having to enter server info for Gmail in TB 2 I wonder what you are doing to create the Gmail account? I click "create new account" from the main screen. A dialog box pops up with four options, 1) create a E mail account 2) RRS News and Blogs 3) Gmail 4) News Group account. Select the Gmail option and than all you do is enter your name and Gmail address and you are done. No server info is asked for or required. Thunderbird does the rest. First time you send and receive a Gmail email you will need to enter your password.
  7. Are you talking about setting up TB 2 to access your Gmail account? I set two Gmail accounts up in TB 2 and no server info was necessary. Just your Gmail address and user name. I don't think it even asked for your pass word. TB 2 did the rest and the first time you send or receive an email with the Gmail account than you enter your pass word. I did have to enter server info for my e mail account with my ISP but that was easy. From the Thunderbird home page Easy Access to Popular Web Mail Services Thunderbird 2 makes it even easier to integrate and use various Web mail accounts from one inbox. Gmail and .Mac users can access their accounts in Thunderbird by simply providing their user names and passwords.
  8. Thanks, that worked. Once you add some icons and the arrows appear indicating they are hidden you can drag the grippie farther left. Only as far as is required to make the icons appear.
  9. My current line up: Ad Block Plus All In One Side Bar Autohide Clippings Compact Menu 2 Cooliris Previews Drag De Go Google Tool Bar Image Zoom Tab Catalog Tab Mix Plus Tab Scope Text Size Tool Bar
  10. Since they updated the Addons site the old reviews have been all removed for the extensions so the reviews there now are few and recent. If you had read the reviews that were there there were many problems with Tabbrowser Preferences breaking Firefox and/or other extensions. It's history dates back to 2004 and there were loads of reviews about it. Tab Mix Plus is far more popular and problem free.
  11. Dump the Tabbrowser Preferences and install Tab Mix Plus instead. Seems to be many problems with Tabbrowser Preferences.
  12. The tool bar (Command Bar) with the home button and options etc is on the same bar as the Tab Bar. I would like to lengthen the Command Bar. I have unlocked the tool bars and dragged the grippie for the Command Bar as far left as it will let me but it's still very small and I can only place 5 icons on it. Any more than 5 and it brings up the arrows indicating that there is more icons out of view. I don't like that. Now in this pic the Command Bar is much longer. It stretches out past the Search Bar in length. Click the link and scroll down a couple inches http://news.softpedia.com/news/Download-IE7-Pro-43978.shtml How do you do this? I have dragged it as far as it will go but it's not nearly as long.
  13. Thunderbird 2.0 does this as well. Set up two Gmail accounts in it in about 2min. Just enter email and password and TB did the rest..
  14. Well you need the Genuine Advantage Validation Tool if you want to download stuff on a legit install of Windows from Microsoft. I don't mind validating my copy of Windows. The Notification Tool is what really annoys me. Once I validate my copy I shouldn't have to install that Notification to. That is for people that don't have a legit copy of Windows and is designed to annoy the crap out of them with constant reminders. Whats that have to do with me. To make it worse they try to install the Notification Tool as a critical update. Rant off. Back to the installed apps thread.
  15. I noticed many of you have installed that Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool. I would uninstall that and tell Micostupid to shove it up their a$$.
  16. Does anybody know if Ad-Aware will keep supporting the older version? If they keep providing updates I will keep using it.
  17. If you disable it does the program still launch and scan OK?
  18. This seems to be happening a lot lately. The new AVG AS does this as well. Also A Squared Anti Malware just updated the program and it also installed a service that runs at start up. AVG and A Squared didn't have these before the updates. I was able to disable the A Squared service with no ill affects on the program but it seems the AVG AS service needs to be running.
  19. Installing extensions is a little different than Firefox. If you just left click the link it will install the extension in Firefox not Thunderbird. You need to right click and save link as. Than open Thunderbird and the addons manager and click install. Than navigate to the file you saved and open it.
  20. I think I will try it. I cab install ABP in Thunderbird no problem but how do I add a filter? In Firefox you just go to the filter page and click on the one you want and it installs automatically. How do you do this with Thunderbird? I guess I have to do it manually by selecting "add filter subscription" and than enter the info. I will have to play around with it for a while. If it doesn't block those annoying Yahoo and Hotmail adds whats the point of using it with Thunderbird? Many do use it since it's one of the top extensions on the Thunderbird addons site.
  21. Anybody use ABP with Thunderbird? Does it block those annoying adds you get from Yahoo and Hot Mail? I use ABP in Firefox and it works well. I just started using Thunderbird though.
  22. I know that it doesn't work if you disable it in the new version. I will just enable it when I want to launch AVG AS and do a scan than when finished I will disable it from running again. Shouldn't be that much of a PITA since I scan twice monthly with it. I was just curious though if the Guard was still a service like it is now. You answered my question thanks.
  23. I think that was the intention. That way you upgrade to the full version and you will be running the Guard anyway. For me if this Guard process needs to be running to launch AVG AS I will activate it so I can use the scanner and that when done I will deactivate the Guard until I need to scan again. I usually scan every two weeks so it won't be that much of a hassle. Does anybody know if the Guard is still in services? In my current version it is a service and I disable it in there.

    Firefox 3

I didn't even need to use Autoruns to cut my processes down from over 50 to 20 now. I used msconfig, also went into services and disabled what didn't need to be running, and some programs have an option to disable them at start up. For example I disabled jusched.exe in msconfig and went into control panel and selected Java and the update tab and disabled automatic updates. Jusched.exe never ran again and no need for renaming the file or any other tweak.
