  1. Same plain desktop with a not-so-good performing video card...
  2. I never had problems with Firefox 3, either using the installer or the portable version. Firefox 3 seems to be dramatically better in every way than Firefox 2 in my machines, from memory usage to browsing performance. Just to be safe, stick what works for you. As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
  3. My DNS Client is enabled. For some reason, I feel a bit slow response in surfing the net when that service is disabled and does well when the service is enabled. It's probably just an effect of a placebo. I'll try again using it with DNS Client service disabled and time it, as soon as I got back from vacation.
  4. Just Adblock Plus and NoScript. I was about to add Sandboxie but generally, it's not considered as an add-ons. Nevertheless, it provides security we can trust. I stopped using MVPS Host file in my desktop and another laptop running Vista. The slowdown I experienced with the HOST file at start-up truly bogged me.
  5. At first glance, it looks to be another cat edited using Photoshop; however, reading the story carefully about the cat reveals the truth behind it. Good thing is the extra set of ears doesn't deform the looks of the cat, but rather makes it a bit more appealing to the regular folks with cats (and other pets I presume ).
  6. Besides having a hardware firewall, either included in the router or others, you may try PC Tools Firewall Plus. I'm currently testing it in my virtual machine. The pop-ups can be easily understood as your experience with the firewall increases. If you don't like pop-ups, then configure the firewall not to monitor outbound connections. If you are bothered by any network slowdowns caused by the firewall, your best choice would be going back to XP's default firewall.
  7. Just changed the wallpaper... still using the same visual style.....

    Video Card

It's obvious your video card uses AGP slot. Mine says PCI bus 1 too, but the important thing is to read the manuals of your motherboard and video card about compatibility.

    SP2 to SP3 ?

In my previous experience, I never had problems regarding conflicting software, rather I had problems regarding registry permissions. I was able to fix it by following this guide. One advice though: turn off most programs running in background such as real-time antimalware. At least you may reduce possible problems brought by running programs because the system cannot terminate them.
  10. OS stands for "operating system". Your Windows XP is an example of an OS, therefore you use an OS. If not then you won't be able to fully use the computer at all. Just clearing some things up.

    Paint.NET

@Andavari I've read in the forums that they don't have a plugin for that feature. They seem to speculate that the said feature will be added in version 4.

    Paint.NET

I've tried it, but I don't like the blur brush function thingy missing in it since I need that feature in work etc. To say the least, it's an incredibly easy-to-understand feature-rich raster graphics editor for the masses.
  13. YoKenny, what's the grade of your eyeglasses? Does your glasses have a coating to reduce/block radiation coming from computer monitors, have silicon rubber thingy that clings on the nose bridge that keeps the glasses from falling? For me, I was diagnosed with astigmatism. I kept on wondering about why are my sight somehow unaligned yet stay sharp? Also the grade of my eyeglasses is around 174. I thank my habit of consuming vitamin A capsules.
  14. Still the same. Just a few additions of files and a new blue wallpaper... Wallpaper from Windows XP Collection Logon. Courtesy of mjamil85.
  15. Yep, I've accidentally seen that mascot when I was trying my luck finding hidden about: links, and so I stumbled across about:robots. While I was scavenging things inside the .jar files of Firefox, I've reached for its(gibberish phrases/sentences) translations and other text inside aboutDialog.dtd in en-US.jar. I'm planning to toy around in that .jar file, but I'm afraid I will just break my favorite about:robots.
  16. Its point is somewhat related to the humorous Microsoft Firefox. I just can't think of the two mixing together, if ever the post is true.
  17. There's already a seemingly similar thread with a few edits by Humpy.
  18. I find Opera's startup slow if I use a filter list to block ads. As for NoScript-like functionality in Opera, I find it rather a hassle. Does v9.5 have the ability to temporarily allow scripts in sites when you click on them, like how NoScript does it? Also, some sites I visit look terrible in Opera, for example Mobius Games. I don't what it will appear on others' screens. P.S. Did you edit the classic.jar/classic.manifest in the chrome folder of Firefox so it will use the Strata theme for Vista? Because that's what I did to mine.
  19. Firefox 3, in my computer, just performs faster/better than Firefox 2. It starts faster, loads sites quicker, and consumes less memory in my observations. I just wish that Opera had a granular control of ads and scripts like in Adblock Plus and NoScript, without sacrificing startup time. Then I would be a happy camper.
  20. The bottom of that page seems to be safest, and obviously the funniest, part of that website. The rest looks to be rather dangerous. I liked how he explained the site's session cockies that gets deleted when the broswer is closed. However, I feel a bit sorry for making fun of the poor lil guy.
  21. I may not be much of help at all, but at that price comparing to other laptops available here it's way too cheap. With that specs, it would already be around US$2,272 here. Just make sure there are no pirated nor broken stuff.
  22. The technician reformatted the hard drive to avoid any possible complications in replacing our deceased MSI motherboard.
  23. Well I've found a similar post in our local forums. Seems that the two are connected. Dear Technical Support Team: Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child-processes that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activities. Applications such as BachelorNights 10.3, Cricket 5.0 , BeerWithBuddies 7.5 , and Outings 3.6 no longer runs, crashing the system whenever selected. I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 5.0 , but the 'uninstall ' doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help! Thanks, A Troubled User REPLY: Dear Troubled User: This is a very common problem that people complain about. Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING !!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 5.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed. You cannot go back to Girlfriend 5.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed not to allow this. (Look in your Wife 1.0 Manual under Warnings-Alimony- Child Support) .. I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work on improving the environment. I suggest installing the background application Yes Dear to alleviate software augmentation. The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway. Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean 2.5 , Sweep 3.0, Cook 1.5 and DoLaundry 4.2 . However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program NagNag 9.5 . Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Sarees 2.1 and Jewellery 5.0 STATUTORY WARNING : DO NOT, under any circumstances, install SecretaryWith Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system. Best of luck, Tech Support
  24. What about ADrive? It says here that the upload limit on a single file is 2 gigabytes.
