  1. Periodically I run into freeware I can't live without (like CCleaner) and this is one of those apps. I know you can use your favorite photo editor or Windows or other apps to compress images but this little gem is the king. All you do is enable it and it will automatically "sense" and compress photos as you attach them to any type client. It wants to load at start up so you may want to disable that (use CCleaner) and just open it when you need it. http://www.onthegosoft.com/shrink_pic.htm
  2. When you delete Inbox/sent/and finally delete folder items from OE, are they still on the hard drive as a temp item? If so does CC remove them? Thank You!
  3. I mostly use ZSoft but if Ive forgotten to analyze an installation use Revo. You know what though? You run RegSeeker and it'll find a dozen or more entries those programs have missed. It's the best! I'd never use it to just clean because it'll probably find entries you need. But for thorough cleaning it's a must have. Also, always check C:\ Program Files and both All Users and Owner Application Files (run: %AppData%)
  4. You are a genius my friend and I thank you!
  5. I keep my software icons in folders. SP3 has changed the text under many of them from black to blue. No big deal but still annoying. Anyone know how to get them all black again? Thank You!
  6. I did read that on Wilders. Hope so, because that is when my subscription expires.
  7. Well I'll be! I've been using it for a couple of years, that is how I discovered what AVG Anti-Spyware memory scans were doing because I keep the little monitor active in the notification area. I just right clicked it and I see the Defrag option. I'll try it and maybe uninstall RAM Defrag. hazelnut, although it's overkill I have AVG run the two minute (more or less) mem scan at 6:00am, 2:00pm and 10:00pm. Really, the only times my MemInfo shows greater that 50% usage of my 1gig has been after Spy Sweeper (it's gone now) and Spyware Doctor (just have the starter edition) scans. Also, I installed RAM Defrag on my notebook, not knowing about the MemInfo feature which I already had, but it didn't have any effect. I wasn't sure if it was because it doesn't list Vista OS or because Vista does something to RAM itself. Next time I fire it up I'll try MemInfo defragmentor.
  8. This is so true! I've been reporting this on several forums for a couple of years. The thing is we are losing it by the end of the year. My subscription goes to December. That is why I wanted to find something else and this RAM Defrag does that. It's different from those optimizing progs that I think just increase the size of the page file.
  9. http://www.brothersoft.com/ram-defrag-17272.html This is a great app. It doesn't make your page file greater, it literally returns leaked RAM. I have been using it for several weeks now!
  10. Scroll to #5! http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm#5
  11. I want to add/merge the following into the registry, however, I get confused everytime I try. The directions are: "copy/past into txtile, save as file.reg and import". [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "TFTray"=""C:\\Program Files\\ThreatFire\\TFTray.exe"" Is it a Key, String Value, Binary Value, DWORD Value, Multi-String Value or Expandable String Value? What is with the all the quotation marks and do I need them? If I go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run], do I just paste "TFTray..."? I'm not afraid to do this, I've backed the registry up, I just want to do it correctly. Thank You!
  12. Thanks Tom AZ but it didn't seem to help. I'll just put up with it because I love Ff so much. Maybe the next update will have the opposite effect or an add-on will update.
  13. I definitely have! Perhaps it is one of my extensions not playing well with .13 but opening way slower here.
  14. Chris, I actually had to uninstall "with anti-virus". I turned the anti-virus off immediately after installation but my pc all but froze. Was about ready for a restore when it finally opened the uninstall file. This was probably a 10 minute event. It didn't like NOD32 at all I suppose, even though the anti-virus was disabled. I'll certainly give Spyware Doctor a run though. Thank You!
  15. The wizards in both XP (the hard wired pc to my router) and in Vista (the notebook) are both pretty self explanatory. What I need help with, since this didn't go to well the first time I tried it, is do I need to change any settings in my Linksys WRT54GS router and Comodo v3 firewall? I'll post this thread on a couple forums for maximum input! Thank You!
  16. updates aren't necessarily recent? At least that is what I thought I read here once. The vnunet source is anti-virus also, which I presume one could disable. I'm just making a short list of how I'll set my notebook up when the Norton trial package expires (can't wait!). I don't necessarily buy into the Norton sucks mentality, I just don't care for the gui. Admittedly, I'm sure gui opinions are totally subjective, however. I have licenses for NOD32, AVG Anti-Spyware, and Sandboxie and if truth be known, they probably would be annoying for a new user too, but don't bother me at all.
  17. hazelnut, it appears that this prog is a pretty decent reg cleaner also. I created a new restore point and backed up my reg with ERUNT then aloud runscanner to do it's thing. I'm quite sure it didn't find any malware. Anyway, have you ever had any trouble after removing what it recommends (in my case mostly "file not found" entries)? Thank You!
  18. Well, I guess it was just an optical (no pun intended) illusion because I'm making a recovery disc on the notebook right now. You need to forgive us 60 yr olds (in April). Everything was just plastic, plus the drive itself seems kind of fragile just hanging there, I didn't want to reef to hard.
  19. It was late last night when I originally posted under frustration. Talked to some of my children today and I'm (they) thinking I'm just hesitant to force it on there. I brought my camera to work on Friday trying to get some pics of a pair of Eagles that have been around and left it there. I'll run over there tomorrow and pick it up and if I can't (or afraid to) get a disc on I'll take a pic. Thanks!
  20. The problem is the diameter of it is greater than the center hole in in a CD. What am I missing here? How do you get CDs to fit? Thank You!
  21. OK, thank you! Haven't even taken it out of the box yet but I do agree, it probably is 32.
