  1. I actually do keep a copy and have that login page book marked. Thanks for the tip!
  2. Indeed, there seems to never be a day goes by without an email from them. I'm sure I can (should) opt out but I figure they are also sending me free licenses periodically and it's just my gmail. Trust, I'd never put up with it on my ISP pop3 account.
  3. Years ago I installed v5 or v6 and then figured what the heck, paid them $5 for some sort of upgrade. In the past six months I have installed v2009 (free) and keep getting spammed (I don't mind!) to upgrade to v9. So today the freeware sites are listing v6.76 (indeed for free). Does Ashampoo even know all of the differences?
  4. Woa, I guess I'd slipstream or just get a new pc! Thanks
  5. Although I'm pretty well covered in the backup department with AyRecovery, one of the three "snapshot" clones and Norton Ghost, my original system installation CD is XP SP1. If I wanted to reformat, it would take a day to catch up to SP3 and slipstreaming first wouldn't be any better. Indeed, the "how to's" out there right now actually mention that they don't know if SP1 to SP3 would work. So my question is: Can you a purchase an XP3 CD, even from MS, for a reasonable price anywhere or are you relegated to just slipstreaming your original CD? Thank You!
  6. I used it for a long time with NOD32 on the desktop and Avira Free on the laptop and Comodo Firewall (only, no Defense+) on both. A couple of weeks ago GAOTD was giving away Online Armor so I uninstalled it since OA has HIPS also. The combos were always very light and never had an issue. I'd also used OA Free and PCTools firewalls with it with no issues. Andavari, on a side note, I have an Uninstall ThreatFire app that I must have gotten from PCTools one time that did indeed get 99 and9/10% of it!
  7. Well, it has probably been over a year since I've had any issues with updates, but let me tell you, it gave me major attitude today! I had the Vista laptop down in the basement and I was running a P90X DVD (a workout) on it and MS was doing its thing in the back round. However, after every reboot: "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes". Upon investigation this afternoon, I discovered it was Error 80070005 (if I remember correctly). I went "deep" into Vistas' innerds and made some changes I found from searches but to no avail. I finally reverted to an AyRecovery snapshot from before I started any updates and then updated one update at a time. With all the reboots it took several hours, even though they were all already downloaded. Anyway, that worked!

  9. Thanks hazelnut! I'll try Chromium or Iron again and see what happens.
  10. I've installed Chrome twice, functions normally. I've tried Chromium and Iron and they only render blank pages or I suppose they actually aren't accessing the www. I just thought about something, that perhaps Online Armor is blocking the access, however, if it is it isn't alerting. I'll wait for a while and see if you have any definite answers before I try Iron again. If you don't, I'll install it and disable the firewall and see if that is it. That You!
  11. So my pc locked up during a CCleaner session (never had that happen before) and I ended up doing a hard reboot. After the start up there weren't any icons in the Quick Launch area. Instead of checking to see if QL was enabled in Taskbar properties (it wasn't) I opened CC from the Start Menu. The folder name I have it in ended up in the Taskbar, next to, but not in the Notification Area and I absolutely could not get rid of it. I eventually had to reboot into an AyRecovery snapshot. Does anyone know how I could have removed it? I tried numerous Taskbar settings, couldn't drag it out or delete it.
  12. Best feature of the new version! http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...p;hl=slowday444

  14. Not sure if all correctly inferred my implication about Chrome and Sandboxie but my point is my home page renders in just a few seconds when starting a sandboxed Chrome session. I'm still sandboxed!
  15. Honestly, I can't discern any difference between Chrome and Firefox rendering pages. What I do like about it though, is that it starts sandboxed sessions immediately. I tend to not leave the desktop pc browser open and sandboxed Firefox sessions take double digit seconds to start on this XP machine. If I just want to check on something real quick I've been using Chrome. My Ff setup is to much to my liking to abandon it. On my vista laptop, sandboxed sessions pretty much start without issue so I probably won't even try it.
  16. I finally took the plunge and have to admit I'm quite impressed with its' speed. Not sure I'm ready to give up all of my Firefox conveniences though. It would be even faster if it didn't load adds. I tried to install an Adblock+ plus version for Chrome and it completely crashed it.

  18. What do you all have against MS's SkyDrive at 25G or Google and Yahoo? One of them is claiming unlimited now, not sure which and then in parenthesis it said 100G limit.
  19. I happen to like certain notification area icons such as my MemInfo, HDD Thermometer and a network connected icon, be it Acer's or Window's and I really hate that huge freaking arrow if you select "Hide..."! At least half the time I boot my laptop, icons will be missing. Even more frustrating is the fact that it doesn't always occur, so what gives? And forget about Windows Defender ever being there. Another annoyance is the fact that every time you boot it keeps a log of the icons. Then you have to go into the registry to clean them up. Does anyone know a fail safe app to keep that area the way I want it? Thank You!
  20. I predict they are giving away a free license! Three or four years ago I did use it but have been using the different free FWs. like Comodo, OnlineArmor, PCTools. I'm behind a router so don't take them to seriously! Months ago I had a free, one year ZA Pro license from somewhere, installed it for like a day, uninstalled it and went back to one of the other ones. Back to my prediction, I suspect their costumer base is really shrinking with all the free FWs out there including their own. They are probably going to give a three or six month or year license out in hopes that when it expires people will re-up. Just a guess!
  21. I've had it for a long time and have no issues with it or ever had issues with the older versions. Some folks just seem to have knee-jerk reactions to anything MS (IE may be warranted! lol). I also happen to like Windows Defender, which nowadays updates at least once daily.
  22. Steel cut oats with wild blueberries, flax seed and raw wheatgerm most mornings of my life!
  23. After a couple of days my Vista laptop is acting crazy. It's either that or IE8!
  24. That isn't the point! I do want it cleaned but I don't want that stupid box which hangs after CC is closed.
