  1. So I just purchased a laptop with: "AMD Turion? 64 X2 mobile technology TL-58...dual-core technology enables you to work or play with multiple programs without impacting performance; AMD64 technology provides simultaneous support for 32-bit and 64-bit computing". Since so much software still is only 32-bit compatible, is there anything I need to do to make sure this thing is running as 32-bit? Is there any advantage to 64-bit?
  2. I started this thread over on Wilders. Anyone here have any input? http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=198644
  3. Don't know if it's still around, however, I remember that years ago there was a rogue program with a similar name (Spybot I think). Perhaps you installed it by mistake for SB S&D.
  4. This is probably the third time I've tried it (and the longest, about a week now) in the past two years. They imply it finds sites faster. Download testing is basically a crap shoot with all the variables going on in cyber space at any given time but I really don't ever see any speed increase, although that might be because I normally test close to 5 MBPS and at that rate things kind of even out. Their servers are 500 miles away, my ISP 60. I suppose it has some security benefits. I posted this on Wilders also. Your opinion appreciated! http://www.opendns.com/
  5. I meant instructions on how to create a new string (I'll be 60 in three months! lol). It didn't exactly explain how to do that if the string didn't exist, only showed the new string. I new how to enter a new figure but wasn't sure how to create a whole new entry. Now I know. Anyway, I did it and indeed all of the icons in my program folders are happily opening immediately!
  6. So I didn't actually have the value so I had to use the linked instructions for creating the value. I have XP Home but it worked fine. Thanks again! http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-...11-5164407.html
  7. Thank you both, sounds like you nailed it. I'll mess with it tomorrow!
  8. Recently (like this week) when I open folders containing applications the icons open slowly and one by one. I swear they used to just always be visible. May be some sort of file protection setting in NOD32 v3 or v3 of Comodo, however, I've been using both several weeks.
  9. Congrats! My granddaughter was just born 12/14. Just spent a week with her in Boston. It's kind of interesting observing her dad, who is a pediatrician, he is just so confident (and loving of course) around her. Everyone have a great 2008!
  10. It was geared to logging into any of your personal accounts, email or whatever, on a public pc, however, it is a great idea for those that use their notebooks at wifi hotspots and don't have a vpn. After each legitimate username/password keystroke (or any combination), go up to the address bar or any other field and enter a character(s). Never read or heard of doing such a simple thing. It did say there may be other ways for crooks to get your info but that pretty much neutralizes keylogging. Not to say they couldn't try every combination of your strokes and eventually luck out and get it.
  11. That is how I had been doing it, however, I ran into a couple that the command line didn't work as I said. Thanks!
  12. Thank you CeeCee! I did as you instructed, everything (e.g. Description, Status, etc columns) was removed except the name of the service, however, after reboot gone. Thank you again.
  13. I'm cleaning some things out today, and when I attempt to remove some services via command line I get this: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service.", even though they are listed. How can I remove them from the list? Thank you!

    Sweepi

I use it but I have two observations. It definitely is cleaning something that CCleaner isn't, but that I'm sure CCleaner can, if I change it's settings (options). Which brings up my second observation. It's a little difficult to understand what actual temps it's deleting, plus it always has some that it says it can't clean. If you figure out what it is cleaning that CCleaner isn't, I'll set up CCleaner that way and probably never use Sweepi again.
  15. It's my homepage, not sure why since I also like Yahoo and iGoogle but I guess I'm used to it! Anyway it seems to be down since about 7:00 est. FIGURES!!! I left here, checked and it was back!
  16. Well hazelnut, you inspired me so I renewed. $14.98 US!
  17. My license expires in three days, so since anti-spies are going the way of the horse, I'm thinking about letting it expire. My last renewal, a year ago, was predicated upon the fact that somehow, a two minute memory scan returns leaked RAM. I have a RAM monitor in my notification area and I witness this after every scan.
  18. By default, Linksys has "Block Anonymous Internet Requests, Filter Multicast, and Filter IDENT(Port 113)" enabled but not "Filter Internet NAT Redirection". Should I enable that? Thank You!
  19. Now I understand. It's the operating system not the processor that is relative. I posed the question because I noticed a lot of the notebooks on sale have the AMD 's and I'm thinking why would "I" want that (hypothetically, not purchasing anything)?
  20. " AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With Direct Connect Architecture, AMD64 processors address and help eliminate the real challenges and bottlenecks of system architectures because everything is directly connected to the central processing unit." So if you owned a pc with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor and you wanted to install some`application that was only available for 32-bit processors, could you install the softwaare and would it function?
  21. Thanks smilingralph, however, that is just a little over the top for me, especially since I've narrowed it down to the Sandboxie incompatibility. I'll be patient and wait it out, Thank you for the advice though!
