  1. Does anyone know if I could make my NOD32 SysRescue disk and use that? It does mention that it uses your NOD username and license which it would not find/see on his system.
  2. I can burn one of these CDs for him. He said it would only run in Safe Mode but now it won't even do that. Claims all restore points are gone and what ever caused this took out his McAfee also. I'm aware of Avira, BitDefender, F-Secure and Kaspersky rescue CDs and there may be others. I skimmed the features and Avira updates theirs through out the day while the others you have to be able to get online to update which could be a problem. Other than a reformat, which would take a day since I'm sure he only has XP SP1 cd, plus I don't know if he has the cd for all the drivers, what other tools (portable) can I help him with? Thank You!
  3. I store desktop images on an external HD and on the laptop to a partition and DVDs with Paragon. However, the absolute, hands down, most useful application I've ever used is one of the Horizon DataSys snapshot clones RollBack RX, EAZ-FIX or AyRecovery. They claim you can keep 1000 snapshots, although I can't imagine why. I generally keep four to six, delete older ones and defrag the current ones with the built in tool. Anyway, if you have any trouble with your PC it takes only as long as a reboot to select a snapshot you want to return to. You can also just restore files. Taking a new snapshot takes about two seconds and like I said, a restore just requires booting. If you boot normally and discover the BSD for instance, just reboot and hit the home key and the clone's GUI will be available to select a snapshot and restore. It (they) are the absolute ultimate tool. Think of it as System Restore on roids! As a freeware junkie, you can't imagine how many times in just the last six months it has saved my but. e.g. installing IE8 on my Vista laptop several months ago completely nuked (since resolved, although I only ever use Firefox anyway) it. Complete lock up, the power button wasn't even responding, so I pulled the plug (didn't have the battery in). I then just booted into AyRecovery by pressing the home key, chose the most recent snapshot and it was like nothing ever happened. I'd read about all the Wilders posters using these and ended up with a one year free license. I will definitely purchase a license. Just an amazing program!
  4. Are you all saying that MozBackup won't work now? I make a new copy about weekly and store it "up" at SkyDrive. So if these Ff backup progs do still work, what is the concern?

  7. So, I've had my wife and some of the children call me today as I experiment with GV. I haven't explored it enough to know all of its features or do I necessarily admit that what I do know is all that practical but it is still impressive! Call my GV number and all of our phones (land line and two cells) ring; if one or more of those phones is busy, the other(s) will ring (could be practical and convenient for us since I don't have caller ID or waiting on the land line); and most impressive (as in cool!), leave a voice mail and it immediately converts speech to text and sends a text message to the cells and a gmail with the message...just amazing!
  8. Well the mouse might be frozen but not the keyboard so Super F4 might work. Although I finally had a freeze and neither responded so it may also be a failure!
  9. So right you are! I just hit the quick start icon I made just to see if it would even close the browser but all it did was momentarily flash the cmd prompt. Then I did use Super F4 and it shut it right down. I haven't actually had a "locked" event since I installed it so I can't say how it will work during a real issue.
  10. I download the images from my trailcam flash memory and keep the folders in Picasa so I can share them. But I give the folders a different name daily, e.g. Deer802. I actually prefer to download them with the Picture and Fax Viewer but it keeps a list of every folder I've used. I'd like to remove the entries as I use them but can't find the program. Thank You!

  12. Some other tricks someone linked on Wilders Security. http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/1...e-with-superf4/
  13. Thank you for the XP Home fix hazelnut! Now I'm armed to the tilt so we'll see how they work.
  14. Sometimes things are locked up so tight Task Manager doesn't open and Process Lasso and Tamer have never helped. I'm skeptical, but we'll see! http://www.freewaregenius.com/2009/07/27/s...ram-via-hotkey/
  15. So years ago I dumped RF for Firefox extension InFormEnter. I actually preferred the control IFE offered, i.e. one field at a time and unlimited saved entries. Recently though, if I want to enter a sweepstakes some of them have numerous individual fields, e.g. phone 000 then 000 then 0000 or date of birth mm dd year. So I've installed RF. The problem is that I've set it up (at least I thought I had) to not badger me with pass card requests every time I try to login somewhere but it keeps doing this. I can't find it in my auto start programs to disable, I can't find it's service to change to manual, nor can I find a process running and I disabled the Ff RF extension. So did it install a driver? I only want to start it when I need it. How can I stop this fool thing? Thank You!
  16. Shucks! Just saw this thread. For future reference, NewEgg sells Crucial RAM for much less than you can buy it from Crucial! e.g. 1GB CT12864BA1067 at Crucial $20.99 at NE $14.49, both free shipping. A few years ago Cru wanted $76 for 512 for this Dell and I got it for 40 something at NE. Of course they sell all the other brands too but I prefer Crucial!
  17. If it's good enough for you then it's good enough for me. Thanks Andavari!
  18. mngr? If so, why? I just always use whatever Firefox has built into it.
  19. " July 7, 2009, 9:36 AM A update at Weather.com has broken Weather Pulse and many other programs out there. I will not have time until Friday July 10th 2009 to start to create a fix. So please have patience until a new release is available.."
  20. As have I and nothing yet. A year ago or more support forum was closed but I posted some mention on his site via his other forums. Follow the links! http://www.tropicdesigns.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=14 http://www.tropicdesigns.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=1
  21. I suspect, as of today, weather.com has blocked access to its data via Weather Pulse. Instead of any weather information you now only get this: "Missing XOAP 'link' parameter in request." So very sad!
  22. Numerous times downloads will sale to 99% then stall for several minutes. This before Ff invokes anti-virus scan or Sandboxie prompts for recovery. It's not all downloads, just some. Is this Firefox or the download site or my ISP or Sandboxie?
