  1. so it's a bug then? or they have discontinued the /s switch.
  2. It would seem the Show SSD drives doesn't work on all PC's. I have an unpartitioned SSD as C:\, DF shows it as Ready - SSD Detected but even with the Show SSD drives not ticked, the C:\ still shows up in the list of available drives. I've tried reinstalling DF, ticking, unticking, it always shows up. Conversely, I also have a floppy drive, have that option not ticked and it doesn't show up in the list. So it works on that one. (but still spins up the drive and performs an attempted read of the disk when DF is started or a different drive is selected - but thats another problem http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=36997&hl=floppy) I just live with it, it's no biggie and doesn't effect the running of DF. I've put it down as an undesirable feature rather than a bug. The problem is not 'across the board' and just effects the lucky few.

    Defraggler v2.12

i would have thought that the release process went something like; step 1: publish new version step 2: test new links step 3: make announcement unusual to see a member get the jump on Piriform

    Defraggler v2.12

aren't new versions offically reported in the Announcements thread?
  6. i'm not OCD or anything that drastic. i keep a record of all my private and business clients & i have 1500+ private clients I have installed CC(+DF +MWB) onto. as we all know, they're a great bunch of programs, so why wouldn't you spread the joy!.
  7. my 1563, now 1565, is only non-commerical. it doesn't include friends, family, neighbours or business PC's.
  8. i don't want to stay off topic for long, but to answer your question Keatah, we weren't messing around with the PF per say, it was just a side-effect of the clearing PF suggestion which in turn was a suggestion to reduce fragmentation. you are dead right, a small PF is the way to go, as i have recently experimented with. the old adage of 1.5 x RAM = PF seems much less important these days with RAM being cheap and most PC's having it in abundance.
  9. update: i set the Pagefile min to 512m and max to 4g, been running the PC all day, keep checking the size and it didn't go above the initial amount of 524meg. so far it seems if you have a truck load of physical RAM, you can do with a really small PF.
  10. i think the whole idea of Registry cleaning falls into the advanced bucket. it's an area by its sheer nature that can potentially to more harm than good - which is the reason you are prompted to backup before continuing. having said that though, i have never had it cause grief to me.\ but your suggestion has merit especially for a first time user.
  11. 1563 by my records. it's part of the 'maintenance' package I install on all the pc's i service,
  12. Perfmon is also a good process to use. It's part of WIn7/Vista, not sure on the others.
  13. Just getting a feel for what people have as their pagefile size compared to the amount of RAM they have? to get things started, I have 8gig RAM and 12gig pagefile. (Yep i know that's a big PF) The reason for this stems from a recent thread elsewhere on this forum (http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=37244&hl=) i was experiencing long delays with shutting down my PC due to the pagefile getting cleared at each shutdown.
  14. ok, so you have 6gig phyiscal and 512meg (max) virtual. thanks, i'll keep that in mind when 'downsizing' my PF. i'll be interested in hearing other peoples size ratios, but i am off topic (it can creep up on you before you realise) so will start it in a new thread....
  15. i don't have the pagefile on the SSD, it's on one of the mechanicals. and yes, it is large, having 8gig of ram, i made the pagefile the old formula of 1.5 times, so it's 12gig, which i always thought as ridiculous but have been too lazy to change. so that would definitely be a large part of the increased shutdown delay. but it at least proved to me that the FixIt actually does something 'meaty' and has a direct or indirect action of helping the pagefile not fragment. ps: i will decrease the PF down to 4gig initially and do some performance monitoring with the aim on seeing just how low i can get it, now i have so much ram compared to computing years ago where the physical vs virtual memory was the other way around.
  16. Winapp2, that link to crashie caused my AVG to pop up 2 Exploit Javascript Document Write Loop threats, which it blocked. I guess that was your aim if the user was in IE, thankfully i was in FF.
  17. that is indeed a major achievement. people don't realise just how big a billion is, it gets thrown around too often. for example; 1 million seconds is about 12 days 1 billion seconds is about 32 years so again, congrats.
  18. @kroozer, i set that Registry variable to 1 to wipe the pagefile at shutdown, and although i can confirm the pagefile seems to not get fragmented, i don't like the extra time it now takes to shutdown. having recently gone over to a SSD, shutdown was about 10secs, it's now about 90-120secs. so the benefit of privacy and non-fragmentation of a cleared pagefile, for me, were negated by the delayed shutdown time. but as feedback on the pagefile not getting frag'd, in the few days i had the setting on 1, DF never showed the pagefile as frag'd and i would normally see it sitting on somewhere above 2 and below 10 fragments.

    SafeMSI

i felt like getting in the mood of the season, having just done the house and put up the tree. plus, there was all the peer group pressure, seemed i might as well join in.

    for smartphones?

only Android phones would benefit wouldn't they? iOS is too locked down and their Apps too rigorously scrutinized (supposedly, at least more than Androids) would this be in the same sort of vein as anti-virus software you see start appearing for Androids?

    SafeMSI

just a bit of feedback. had my first chance today to use SafeMSI and it worked !. i tried removing some crap, and as usual, Windows said 'no, not in safe mode', so thinking all SafeMSI did was start the Installer service, I manually tried to start it. again, Windows said 'no, can't be done in safe mode' ran SafeMSI, it stated it had started the service, i tried the uninstall again, and all good. nice little program. it's been added to my little toolbox of goodies for other such ocassions.
  22. please post back - good or bad also, if you still need help, knowing some system info may help. PC specs, CC version, Windows version, hair colour (just kidding)
  23. Ahh, good point Winapp2, which reminded me. i meant to also add in my post to try reverting to a previous System Restore point to cover just such a stuff-up. (cause i'm guessing you didn't backup the registry before hand)
  24. i agree with Winapp2, i never had CC ask for a reboot. it finds, it deletes, simple as that. but for your prob, i'd be wanting reassurance my data is OK. i would start the PC in Safe Mode (pressing F8 at startup). if that works, then core Windows services are fine and it's some extra software causing you grief. in Safe Mode, go into MSCONFIG and see if you can untick anything you don't need (this is usually everything except your AV) reboot the PC normally and see if it starts, hopefully it will. check your data, do a backup (never hurts) personally i would uninstall CC, reboot and make sure my system was working the way it was before the problem. (go back into msconfig and retick whatever you want to start each time the PC starts) then redownload CC, making sure you get it from the Piriform site. i've taken some assumptions with your skill set, if something needs explaining please post back...
  25. soy milk - or LNG (liquefied natural grass) sorry Mods, it's off topic but a very important community awareness bulletin (PS: i did ask many posts ago and don't think i got a response - i take it off topic in the Lounge is more relaxed ?!?)
