  1. just to clarify. i initially thought the Win7 Backup process was what you were referring to, but upon reading your latest post, I'm now thinking it's the CC backup it does of your reg files. can you please confirm which? if it's the Win7 backup program as i initially suspected, does it skip your CC Cleaner Backup Registry folder and continue regardless? have you set up WIn7 Backup to Let Windows Choose or Let Me Choose. if the later, you can untick that folder from being included in the backups. this would be why the "dang backup process is looking for the file". was the link Hazel supplied any help? (to strip it back to basics, it simply suggests you can ignore the error) did you get any where trying to delete the folder?
  2. since you aren't using CC anymore, those backed up reg files will be old/useless. why not make a Restore Point now to 'snapshot' the Registry, then delete your backup folder. (i suspect the physical removal of this folder will also cause you grief)
  3. @HTX, had another thought, have you tried a Search in Defraggler, say, for Filename contains, hit Search, come back and try again, does it go pear-shaped for you like CC does?. i'm assuming Piriform would use the same method of user input on all their products.
  4. not much to go on, but have you tried deleting your System Restore points (Control Panel, System, System Protection, Configure, Delete - that's for Win7) warning; this will leave you with no Restore Points - no biggie as it sounds like they may be corrupted anyway. after you blow them away, make another one by Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore, this will give you a fallback if you ever need it.
  5. the people in the Development Team apparently try and read all the threads/posts in the forum, so if they feel your suggestion has merit, look for it in an upcoming release.
  6. Hi sven, this is a known issue it has been discussed here http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=37431&hl= will have to wait & see what the Dev team do...
  7. this is a long shot, but i'm trying to think outside-the-box. since your problem is with input boxes(admittedly only in CC), it makes me think of Java, Flash, or VB Script and those sort of programs. now i have no idea what CC uses internally to accept input from the user, but have you tried updating your Java, Visual C++ Redistributable, Flash, .NET libraries ?. just throwing ideas out there...
  8. damn good ! i used to use the other ones; spybot, spywareblaster, (can't remember the others) and this beats them all. its been a must-have for years. saved my bacon more than once. must say, haven't used those 4 other freebies on offer. i'd be interested in hearing feedback, especially on Chameleon, i've never seen an infection that stops MBAM from running, & if so, it (mbam) should still run from Safe Mode.
  9. confirmation. been running a couple of w7 64bit rigs, one with 8gig RAM, other with 2gig. pagefile set to custom, min 512meg, max 2gig. never gone above 512meg. so it seems if you have lots of RAM (pretty standard these days) the old MS mould of a big pagefile is unnecessary. default settings, system managed is fine, just wasteful, but huge HD's are also standard, so who really cares.
  10. i liked it so much i lashed out and paid for the PRO version. with what it protects against, i'd rather the proactive PRO than the reactive FREE. Edit: But for those yet to try, the FREE is exactly the same, you just have to manually initiate the scans. you need to get infected for the FREE to find and fix, whereas the PRO stops you getting infected. (stops, as in as best it can, like any security program, only as good as its definitions). the PRO also has a very nice web site blocker for those 'nasty' sites you should stay away from.
  11. HTX, I had v3.25.1872 (64bit) and tried to replicate your problem, without success. So I knew it was fine in the previous version. I then uploaded to the latest version and re-traced your steps as you described and it still works fine for me. Whatever I type in gets 'erased' when I backspace and the new search string is sitting there all by itself. Have you tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling CC, maybe try the previous version from FileHippo first. Do any other of your text in input boxes not get refreshed?, in other applications? Edit: sorry, i re-read your post and saw that you had the previous version already.
  12. thanks Andavari, it was just an idea. I've started a thread for it in Software.
  13. v1.70.0.1100 http://www.malwarebytes.org/
  14. @nergal, thanks for that heads-up, i've just being using it and it seems very adequate, even goes and gets the MVPS updates for you. the whitelist function is a good plus. overall, a nice, comprehensive GUI to the HOSTS file.
  15. a suggestion maybe. could a thread, maybe in Announcements, be started for each of these update reminders; like for Notepad++, Foobar and the others that are getting reported like this. and what are the forum rules for announcing stuff on non-piriform products. for example, i noticed a couple of days ago a MalWareBytes new version released, is a new thread for this product worthy?
  16. hopefully i'm not about to fall into the same Superfast trap (pre-emptive 'sorry' to hazelnut if so) but... since this cbsprovider file is in a \Temp\, doesn't the old general truth "if it lives in a Temp folder, it can be deleted" apply ?
  17. +1 dennis, that's one of the nice side-effects of this forum, a good place to get the heads-up of new releases.
  18. i thought HD's were measured with something like 100,000 hours MTBF rating. i know the MTBF ranking system is, at worst, completely wrong and at best, a pie-in-the-sky guess-timate extrapolated from a few hours laboratory tests but still, for a Rep to come out and openingly admit a 5 year - no more - life span seems a bit alarming. so, did he or you Keatah have any evidence that the notebook drives actually do survive longer in the field? i would have assumed that the same Thailand factory made both sorts, using the same metals, coils, air-flows etc.
  19. laptop, netbook, desktop, doesn't really matter. for me it would only be a choice between Win 7 or 8, and maybe XP if you could find the drivers. anything else and the 'user experience' starts to suffer.
  20. OK, I just have to ask. I have seen it mentioned before SuperFast that you are a supreme user of tabs. having myself only ever, at most, half a dozen opened tabs, can you enlighten my on what you use 423 tabs for. surely that sheer number makes the tab bar hard to navigate.
  21. just curiuos, do you know if the updates are regular (monthly or something) or they just do them whenever they have a bunch of HOST additions ?
  22. a monthly PC mag here did a survey/test about 4-5 years ago. they stated the average HD lasted about 2 years before failure. have no idea of the breakdown between internal vs external or 3.5" vs 2.5" but it was an eye-opener. bottom line - BACKUPS !
  23. in my experience, externals die most commonly from the good old accidental knock or drop whilst the unit is running, long before any other factor gets a chance to show its hand. with 2.5" drives generally costing more $$$ for less gig, people are sadly going to buy based on the price tag and go for the 3.5" units. maybe your thread Keatah will make people think before their next purchase.
  24. agree with your argument on shop brought, external drives. I have always found it better to buy the drive and the enclosure seperately. makes it easier to change when one of those parts goes pear-shaped. the enclosures you buy yourself have better heat dissipation, come apart easily and usually work out cheaper than the off-the-shelf, moulded, sealed units.
  25. for sale; 1 Ark, never used.
