  1. you may not have missed the fine print... there has been some reports by ticked of users on the forum who claim Avast still gets installed despite unticking the offer.
  2. yep but that's fine, i'll lock this one and just use the other.
  3. no idea on that one @durangod, never had to try that... you can always 'suck it and see' and see if it works, nothing to lose, and then get a new license if you want the full Pro experience.
  4. +1 but then I've been a promoter of v5.40 since v5.41 came out. (even though I was told by an official that it "as known faults" but hey!, they all do now!) @nukecad, with your list, what I find even more alarming is if you constructed a "For" list to go with your "Against" one, how would that balance out I think??? I suspect a lot heavier on the For-side rather than the Against-side.
  5. once you go Pro, CC stays Pro, but after the year is up, you lose direct support, auto updates, etc even though the installed features of Pro stay in effect. do you know if your license was still active? perhaps it was purchased over a year ago.
  6. @bulajap this from a previous thread... I read from that, that you can not only expect this sort of behaviour to continue, but to develop further.
  7. what is your Chrome and Windows version? what AV are you using? and what's the last version of CC that did work?
  8. How many times have we had to say that recently?.... (hang on, not recent at all, been about 4 versions now)
  9. try doing it with the PC booted into Safe Mode.
  10. 2.5 year old thread @wolf8000 ! here's an extract from an article that explains it well;
  11. may explain part of the reason v5.41 had the increase in byte size.
  12. there seems to be even more embedded offerings in CC with the latest version. at least one known Summer Sale offering for now. you can either add CC to Nortons exception list or stick to an earlier version of CC until you are happy to update. previous versions can be found at FileHippo.
  13. hopefully other members will chime in and be able to help. personally, due to my anal backup processs, I've never used Recuva in the real world to restore data.
  14. when I had Nortons, I got a similar issue when download MBAM updates. just add it to Nortons exception rule list. it's probably detecting the embedded offerings of Chrome and/or Avast and/or the new ads pop-up system.
  15. there was a recent thread about issues getting the whole Pro package. getting them individually seems to be a solution. test the theory by uninstalling your current CC version first. then go into the Program Files folder for CC and delete its contents (keep the .ini file if you have customised settings) download the latest CC build from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds reboot the PC then install CC from your downloaded file.
  16. many a thread on this update issue. a sure fire fix has always been to; uninstall your current version first. then go into the Program Files folder for CC and delete its contents (keep the .ini file if you have customised settings) download the latest build from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds reboot the PC then install CC from your downloaded file.
  17. official statement? - bloody rare these days but if done, let's see how much political correctness and hyperbole is included. v5.44? - another reason for me to stay on v5.40!

    Data Tracking?

it's all due to the recent European privacy changes, nothing new or scary. the conspiracy theorists out there will tell us companies have been doing this for years, they now simply are forced to tell you about it. ".. does Windows have something similar?" - to what; data collection laws? crap removal program?
  19. make sure there is no drive activity on the D:\ drive expect for Recuva. don't forget, as you have the Pro version, you can get direct, priority support from Piriform. what options have you ran Recuva with on that drive? what sort of format did you do; quick format or low level? but prepare yourself, if they have been overwritten by the format..... it is what it is. I'm assuming all that important data was not backed up anywhere else?
  20. let's take a step back and get some info that may help others help you. what is your OS? how did all this happen? is this your PC's hard drive or an external device?

    CClean Browswe

I would create a new FF profile and start from scratch, if that clears out those weird extensions then you can always copy your key4.db, cookies.sqlite, places.sqlite, bookmark file etc to the new profile folder.
  22. In Windows Explorer, or File Explorer (depending on your OS) right click your CF card and select Format... making sure the Quick Format box is ticked. depending on the card's corruption, if it doesn't show up in File Explorer, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management, and see if it shows up there. how many files were on the card? pics or vids? card capacity? age? format type; FAT or NTFS?
  23. not having a Mac, but I would guess it's due to you having a solid state drive. using secure wiping on a PC with CC pops up a big warning flag.
  24. no, no, all good - more a 'kindly reminder' if you will. just thought it worth mentioning... you know... take a step back and smell the roses sort of thing...
