  1. v5.45 was only pulled a few days ago, my guess is Kaspersky either 1) hasn't been informed, 2) doesn't check this sort of thing happening regularly or 3) the 'pull' is still trickling it's way through various systems.
  2. can you run the program with the /debug option and post the results please, that may show where it's going wrong. documentation here; https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/troubleshooting/running-ccleaner-in-debug-mode but personally, I'd try an even earlier version (available at FileHippo) and give that a go first. I've stayed on v5.40 also try the Portable build.
  3. g'day Larry and welcome. what is your CC and OS versions? when you say Submit, I assume you mean the Wipe button. why not just low-level format the drive from File Explorer. (right click drive, Format, untick Quick Format, Start) the end result will be the same.
  4. testing the memory banks here (too many versions, too many issues) but I recall an issue with the /AUTO switch - I think - in v5.44 try going back to v5.43 (again, from memory, also had some issue, privacy? browser cleaning? kaspersky?) and see if that helps. previous versions available at FileHippo. if v5.43 doesn't do it for you, guess what? .... you may want to go back even further. myself, I have left CC at v5.40
  5. not your fault - I missed the fact you posted in the CCleaner for Mac thread.
  6. they have pulled v5.45 from the Piriform and FileHippo sites. v5.44 is now the official 'latest' version.
  7. @ayylmao, to add CC to your Windows inbuilt firewall providing you use Defender and have no 3rd party security program, start an elevated command prompt and type this; netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="CCleaner" dir=out action=block program="C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" enable=yes profile=any netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="CCleaner64" dir=out action=block program="C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe" enable=yes profile=any adjust the program folder location accordingly if you did a custom install.
  8. doh, missed that little nugget of info.
  9. what specific passwords do you mean? what version of CC are you running? if you are talking about stored browser passwords, untick Site Preferences and Stored Passwords in your browser section of CC. if you mean network passwords, untick Network Passwords in Windows Explorer section of CC.
  10. to find out what is cleaned, right click each one of those entries, click the Analyse choice which will list all the found entries for that category. each one of the entries in that list can be expanded by double clicking each line to see a detailed report.
  11. sadly that is not in our domain, we have no control or influence in such matters. we bring to the Admins/Devs attention these issues then it's entirely in their hands to fix (or ignore as the case seems to be these days) these issues.
  12. the Active Monitoring feature was only an issue with v5.45, v5.44 did not have that problem. (although there were others)
  13. and another caveat for those using the older versions (as I am), browser cleaning may be compromised (if not now, eventually - depending on the browser version) so either configure the internal settings in your browser to 'clean on exit' (if it has that option), or get an add-on that does it, or do it manually every now and then, or run your browser in 'private mode' (as I do).
  14. 3rd party AV products will disable inbuilt equivalent - as with Defender. same for firewalls, and since Avast Free has no firewall, the inbuilt Windows one should still be functioning. to confirm, click the Start button and start typing firewall, Best Match should be Windows Defender Firewall, click that and everything should say Firewall state: On and Connected and be green.
  15. or perhaps it may be the Language/Region/Keyboard settings that CC checks for an embargoed country. so check those first, in case it's that easy.
  16. correct. either uninstall completely and wait, or get an older version from FileHippo (geez - how many times have I written that this year!)
  17. try and manually getting the update from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds a pre-emptive word of caution, if you skim your eyes across some recent threads you'll see many unhappy users of the latest version, v5.45 there were also reported issues with version prior to that. so try the latest, or try previous versions available at FileHippo.
  18. there has been a few issues with the last few releases. myself, I will be staying on v5.40, with ccupdate.exe deleted and firewall rules blocking ccleaner64.exe but I find I only use it now to help give advice on the program's functions on this forum. between my own batch script and MS's own cleanmgr with /sageset options all ticked I've weaned myself off its crap cleaning capabilities.

    Hacker?

to answer your 1st question - No, Speccy will not determine if your PC has been compromised. it will just interrogate the firmware via the Microsoft WMI service and tell you "what's under the hood".
  20. just confirming.... when you updated CC you installed v5.44. the latest is v5.45
  21. in DF, make sure Stop VSS, Exclude Restore Points and Exclude hibernation file is ticked.
  22. If you are using version 5.45, try going to an earlier version and see if the issue still occurs. previous versions available at FileHippo.
  23. bingo!, you have hit the nail on the head.
  24. or roll back to an earlier version. all available at FileHippo. (they had pulled v5.44 but it should be back up by now) to find a version without any obvious problems you may want to go back to v5.40
