  1. does Vista have all its updates? what AV software do you use? does CC work OK if you go back a version, available from FileHippo (you may have to go back to v5.40 or v5.41)
  2. you're right, Defraggler, CCleaner and Speccy have all had issues with inconsistently flagging HDD's as SSD's - and vice-versa. doesn't happen for all users, but enough to be a pain and to not trust the detection algorithm. Piriform have long been aware of the issue, there was once a suggestion that they would release a 'manual switch' allowing the user to tell the software what actually is there. then there were responses stating that they could not replicate the issue in-house. so who knows.... (just don't hold your breathe)
  3. wise man - move on and don't sweat the small stuff.
  4. use this link to get the key resent to your email; https://www.piriform.com/support/license-lookup or a support ticket can be raised from here; https://piriform.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
  5. g'day and welcome to the forum. what version of CC are you using? as to Chrome, if CC thinks you have it, then from my experience, you do. do a system file and registry scan for it, also check any other user profile. as to Edge, that's part of Windows and uses the same repositories as a lot of other MS products; like Office, OneDrive, Skype, IE and who knows what else. so that may explain part of the reason, but you probably have something else triggering CC into thinking it needs to clean Edge as it doesn't get triggered on my PC when running CC. (IE always does but that's just the INetCache self-generated files)
  6. that's the understatement of the year!
  7. if you're going to offer a product to a platform, you support that product, so I'm not offering any excuses but I suspect the proportion of Mac uses in the world versus the Windows community, then factor into that the proportion of those Mac users that have CCleaner, and I guess the level of importantance placed on this issue by the company is not to a satisfgactory level expected by it's user base. then add to that the ongoing issues with the PC versions, I guess you could argue they have their hands full...... but as I say - that's no excuse. and it takes 1 minute to jump on the forum and post some sort of official statement like "sorry about that, we are aware and will look into it".
  8. what is your current version? Portable build has the same cleaning functions as the Free build. Slim build should also be up now.
  9. Ah, I see, OK, I'm on the same page now - I thought you were having an issue. The Admins do (eventually) read these posts, so who knows.
  10. I agree - completely unreasonable - so no arguement on that front from me. but with the progressive slide backwards with each release, I'm still on v5.40 and will not be upgrading any further. for me it is simply the path of least resistance to stay with a version I trust than to beat my head against the Piriform wall and wait/hope for a version that offers one step forward only to be delivered a product that also gives you one step backward.
  11. g'day g2m and welcome to the forums. can you give actual version numbers because 'current version' and 'new version' doesn't explain things.

    issues

like for example; what issues? what sort of scan? what version of CC and Windows are you using? if it shows you an error message, what does it say? (provide screenshot if you can)
  13. yep, only discovered that one last week (think it's actually a new 'feature' with 1803) and have added it to my batch file ABC (Awesome Batch Controller) that gets run on all new machines to tweak a shite load of MS settings.
  14. and just to confirm, if you both go back to v5.43, all is good? (previous versions available at FileHippo)
  15. untick anything to do with Recent or MRU (most recent used) lists. for starters, in the Windows Explorer section, untick Recent Documents, Run (in Start Menu) & Other Explorer MRUs. also check ClassicShell that it is set to Show Recent. and in Windows (if you have 10), when I was running StartIsBack, one of it's Taskbar or Start settings used to wipe the most recently opened list, think it was Show suggestions or something about Allow Microsoft to use Start items for something (but I can't find that setting in the .167 build)
  16. g'day mediaman and a belated welcome. this forum is almost solely used by other non-Piriform staff members like yourself who freely volunteer their time to help others - either Piriform related or otherwise. so what you have against you with that is you have to wait until someone who can help logs in and does so. but in your case, the situation is made worse by the fact there really isn't that many Mac users in the world and even a smaller subset of those that are members. (I'd probably even go out on a limb and say we have none - certainly no regulars!) but if CC on MAc's is anything like it is on Windows, then the way it uninstalls things should be simply to call the programs own uninstall process. but that is purely speculation from an absolute Mac noob - which really is pointless and unhelpful to you - so sadly you either need to wait for a Mac user to perhaps send a direct support request to Piriform. You can raise a ticket from their website.
  17. I wouldn't worry too much about the SMART figures. at best , it's a reminder you should be doing regular backups. at worst, it means your drive is heading south. the thing with SMART values is the standard is hardly adhered to, so one manufacture may consider the event 196 (reallocation event count) as bad if above 10 where as another may not care until above 50. (just as an example) I've had drives run for literally years after SMART indicated a change in the figures without any ill-effect - until the drive did up and die. as well as your backups, for extra piece of mind, start an elevated command prompt and type sfc /scannow and hit Enter. when done type chkdsk c: /r and hit Enter. respectively, that will check for system corruption and drive errors.
  18. g'day Art and welcome. what AV do you use? and do you have Malwarebytes Premium? those two are currently causing grief for CC. did this issue only start with the update to v5.44? if so try going back to a previous version or two (or four), they can be found at FileHippo.
  19. when TB is installed, you should see it's entry in the Application tab of CC. uncheck all entries in there. then as an extra precaution, for the first time you run CC with TB installed, do a Analyse (rather than a Run Cleaner) and check the results for anything TB related. (fyi: you can double click each categories shown in the Analyse results and get a expanded, detailed file list)
  20. g'day reginald and welcome to the forums. I also got the .165 update this week, and also have CC and MBAM run at startup and the update didn't effect those for me. just lucky maybe. I do remember an update in the past for Win10 that deemed some programs to be incompatible and required those to be updated. have you tried reloading those effected programs?
  21. good news. you'll have to try the next release and see if that fixes your issue.
  22. how big is the SSD?
  23. and you wouldn't mind the odd "stupid development" now and then. every company has them eventually. hell, I was a programmer in a previous life for 19 years and yes, I'm guilt of coding that passed my testing but was then picked up in the pre-production test labs (the very reason they existed). and yes, once in a blue moon, something got through that process and was released to the public - stuff happens to the best of us. but.... Piriform.... release after release has been dogged with issues. what are we up to 8? this year and 2 of those have been 'emergency' patch releases. but from reading this forum, it isn't just the constant bugs and unwanted 'surprise' features, it's the general lack of care, and concern, and commitment, to their user base and this forum which gives them that direct conduit to that base.
  24. does the problem coincide with the release of the latest update, v5.44? do you use Kaspersky or MalwareBytes Premium? these have known issues when using the latest CC version. if nothing above pans out, try going back a version or two (or three) until the issue goes away. previous version can be found on FileHippo.
