  1. I think keeping ol' good XP is okay for older hardware. But if you have new hardware you better get something newer. Just my two cents.
  2. Of course you are right. Regular AV programs have a hard time coexisting. The example I posted is the exception to the rule.
  3. Some time ago I got a friend's pc with wih8 installed and it used those gpt partitions. My friend wanted Win7 back because there was no way on Earth to make his printer running. It took me a hell of a time to remove those F***ng GUID partitions. So yes, they can be annoying. The hard disk was 1TB in size, so why use them? (needed for more than 2GB though). And who would make a partition that big?
  4. Agreed. Adblockplus is free and really nice. And it even works for IE and Android.
  5. Your last statement is not entirely true. Immunet 3 is a cloud antivirus meant to coexist with other relevant AV programs out there.
  6. I would have switched to LInux a long time ago if it wasn't for games. As for the original topic: I think XP will be sorely missed. Something tells me Microsoft has gone down the hill compatibility-wise in its later Operating Systems.
  7. Good thing I have moved away from XP now. I understand XP is good but if your hardware isn't paleolithic, you should install a newer OS just for security sake.
  8. Hello. I think the Devs will take note of your issue when they have the time.
  9. Hello. I don't know if this can already be done. Can all recycle bin contents be ignored when doing a quick defrag?
  10. Congratulations Piriform. But it strikes me as odd that there is just one entry in the "free antivirus" section.
  11. No problem here either with Win 7 x64/IE11. What about if you deselect "check for software updates" in installation dialog?.
  12. There is one thing i like. Latest updates are sorted by date.
  13. Just in the USA? I think it's EVERYWHERE. And related to the topic: I am no smoker but I also prefer to allow than to prohibit.
  14. I hope he get well soon. My main concern is that even he would recover eventually he may be suffering from some neurological damage.
  15. It seems like like a good idea. Working with a malfunctioning hard drive is a recipe for utter disaster. Also it's a very good thing he had already done some backups. PS - Also, don't you think this thread should be moved somewhere else. Hardware section maybe?
  16. There is less functionality that's for sure.
  17. Hi all. I usually open www.filehippo.com once a day to check for software updates. Today I see its layout has been changed. What's your opinion about it?. I think it's uglier than before and less useful.
  18. Agreed. For me I still like it because of its lighter fingerprint and tidy interface. Other AV suites are bloatware to me.
  19. Yes. PS - You can download the offline definitions (updated once per day) to be able to install it without Internet connection. -> http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/definitions/adl.aspx
  20. So, for instance, all Al Qaeda members must be great gamers. Right? They must be all day playing with their consoles in their comfy caves... The world has gone utterly mad, it seems...
  21. I have installed AVAST on a dual-core, 512 MB RAM newly formatted XP system and it became totally irresponsive. Uninstalled it, installed MSE and it was good. I don't really care for all the bloatware in other AV programs nor whether the scan speed is state-of-the-art of not. According to my tests, MSE would eat up about 60-80MB while AVAST was well over 150 MB+ Having so little RAM is a PITA; opening FF eats up about 200MB+ RAM with a single tab. This is not good. The bottom line: MSE is not that bad on XP systems even if you are not as protected as with other suites. You get what you pay for.
  22. Firefox is my favourite browser too. I was using Opera a long time ago but it has become a Chrome alike now. I like the way you can customize things in FF.
