  1. That's a good idea Why not a number 2 instead of the asterisk? eg [Audacity] - [2-Audacity]. So will be more clear what is related to winapp2.ini Test (1=winapp.ini 2=winapp2.ini) All credits to JDPower
  2. Just tried to reproduce. I get this error from CCleaner: Error in file: C:\Program Files\CCleaner\winapp.ini line: Filekey4=%SystemDrive%\YServer.txt 9 - Index out of interval range (or something similar, my WinXp is italian :-)) Wonder if CCleaner can't (safely) delete any file saved in Root...
  3. Just installing winapp2.ini is absolutely safe, since the only effect will be the detection of the applications listed in it. The "risk" (if i may call it in this way ) starts when you click "Run Cleaner" having each box near the applications names checked (Be careful, since they are all checked by default). Leaving all checkboxes unchecked winapp2.ini (and winapp.ini too) doesn't have any effect. So, if you like, you can install winapp2.ini just for see which ones of your installed applications it can detect. Then you can click "Analyze" (this also is absolutely safe) and see which files CCleaner can delete, when (and if) you will decide to click "Run Cleaner" However, winapp2.ini will can be simply deleted from CCleaner folder, it doesn't need any real "install/uninstall".
  4. Try this Glary Utilities has the feature you need Isn't freeware, 30 days trial.
  5. About Beginners Guide, what do you think about something like this ? Scan for Issues Flash Demo It's just a test, it can be done better (i had no issues to show at that time, damn! )
  6. IMHO the progress bar doesn't show exactly what's happening. Is useful, but just for show to the user that CCleaner is working and not freezed, specially when there are a lot of entries to delete.
  7. In my experience, many applications need some empty folders. Eg. my Office become "corrupted" and run his installer when i delete an empty folder of Excel. Many others applications simply recreate their empty folders at next startup, and in this case the deletion is completely unuseful. Regarding empty folders left from uninstalled applications, AFAIK usually they aren't empty at all (log files, lang files, unistallers, etc...)
  8. Clicking the "Online Help..." users can access to the Quick Tour, Features, FAQs and Screenshots pages. IMHO is enough for understand what CCleaner is, and how it works. However, i think that put there (i mean on the website, not in CCleaner) another link to the online Beginners Guide isn't a bad idea.
  9. You can make it getting the unrestricted version, as said on the website: http://www.perfect-optimization.com/search...ation-ebook.htm
  10. Uhm... sorry, i've misunderstood the question. Uninstall the hotfixes from Tools section of CCleaner means unistall all the Windows Updates (same can be done from Windows Control Panel - Add/Remove), while uninstall the hotfixes unistallers means uninstall the uninstallers only, but keeping all the Updates installed. Isn't?
  11. As CCleaner says, they are "Hotfix Uninstallers". Deleting them, you will loose the function "Unistall" for all the updates installed thru WindowsUpdate. I heard some people having trouble with this, in the past (specially with previous IE7 betas versions, if i'm not wrong). Deleting them, or leaving them alone is your choice (and your risk, of course)
  12. What about to make translations at least of "Quick Tour" pages? I've tried to do it in italian...
  13. I think is an unuseful complication for an utility used (maybe) half minute every day. Skins make some sense on browsers, on music/video players, and so on... Just my opinion
  14. This is what i see pressing Edit button there. (the second field is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE" /n ) Hope this help
  15. Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > Files Type (or Type Files, i don't know) Scroll down until you find .doc type file and select it. Press Advanced button Check if Open is the default option (written in bold) Note: I own an italian version of WinXP, so what said above may sound a little different for you, hope this can make some sense
  16. Agree JDPower, this is the right path for detect Movie Maker in my registry Detect=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MM20 (OR) Detecting the installed .exe: DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\Movie Maker\moviemk.exe IMHO the only entry that can be safely deleted is the last saved file path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MM20\Publish Wizard\MRU List
  17. This sound really strange to me I've never seen Windows Movie Maker mentioned in CCleaner, neither in winapp2.ini. AFAIK, the only Windows Multimedia application cleaned by default is Media Player.
  18. I have everything checked in Advanced, except "Menu Order Cache", and all works fine here. Win XP sp2 fully patched. CCleaner 1.38.485
  19. My answer: Because, as everyone knows, CCleaner isn't the stronger registry cleaner in the world But it do its job and, most important, is very safe to use. I never had any problem using CCleaner every day, for years. Can't say the same for other registry cleaners i tried ;-(
  20. IMHO click "Analyze", or "Run" directly, can be an user choice, like actually is.
  21. Whiteshark

    Freeware!

I think this may be very useful for file transfer Freeware and standalone (no install required) Due to my poor english, is better if everyone read more descriptions on the website itself http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/
  22. I've read on some italian forum other people that is unable to run both CCleaner and HijackThis too.. If you like, try to download a renamed copy of HJT from my web space: File name pippo.zip (contains HJT renamed as pippo.exe) Disco Remoto
  23. Uhm... IMHO in that way you can run only the Cleaner, not the Issues scan/fix.
  24. Same thing as well in italian language. But in my opinion is very difficult misunderstand what's happening, since: 1) The user knows that has pressed the "Analyze" button (and not the Run one) 2) There is a warning that says "xxMB **to be** removed" 3) There is another note that says "Nothing has been removed yet". IMO is enough for avoid any misunderstanding :-) I understand perfecly what you mean, but since the two processes, Analize and Run, are using i suppose the same "routine", i think would be a complication for developers give future and past to the word "remove".
  25. I'm not so familiar with english language, but really can't understand how this may be considered a bug. There are two strings in headers: "xxMB to be removed" and "Note: No files have been deleted yet"
