    Cookies

AFAIK Spybot S&D doesn't clean nothing at all, cause it is not a disk cleaner. Spybot is an anti spyware-malaware software. It doesn't delete any cookie and any other file, unless they are judged dangerous or malicious (eg. tracking cookies)
  2. No, sorry. Not CCleaner, HijackThis.
  3. Uhm... just yesterday i helped a friend of mine having a similar problem. HijackThis was impossible to open, neither renaming his exe. Solved downloading and using A-squared Free A-squared
  4. No way I have also searched Google, the only environment variables availables by default are the following: ----------------------- %allusersprofile%=LetteraDriveSistema:\Documents and Settings\All Users %appdata%=LetteraDriveSistema:\Documents and Settings\NomeProfilo\Dati applicazioni %CommonProgramFiles%=LetteraDriveSistema:\Programmi\File comuni %homepath%=\Documents and Settings\NomeProfilo %ProgramFiles%=LetteraDriveSistema:\Programmi %SystemDrive%=LetteraDriveSistema: %SystemRoot%=LetteraDriveSistema:\WINDOWS %temp%=LetteraDriveSistema:\DOCUME~1\NomeProfilo\IMPOST~1\Temp %tmp%=LetteraDriveSistema:\DOCUME~1\NomeProfilo\IMPOST~1\Temp %userprofile%=LetteraDriveSistema:\Documents and Settings\NomeProfilo %windir%=LetteraDriveSistema:\WINDOWS ------------------------ The variable %appdata% points to the 'UserName\Application Data' folder, while all my Application Data are stored in 'AllUsers\Applications Data', as you can see here: Of course i could create a customized variable, but this is not a solution that could work for everyone. Guess the easiest way is manually edit winapp.ini
  5. Thanks Andavari, i will try all these strings, but i doubt they can work, since "Application Data" and "Local Settings" IMO are not "internationalizable" (if this word exist LOL!). AFAIK only %programfiles%, %userprofile% and %allusersprofile% can work in that way. However, try them is quite simple, and if it work i'll see immediately the stuff to clean after press Analyze button. So i go to test, and will post soon the results. Ty
  6. Sorry, maybe there are some misunderstanding, due to my very poor english... No doubt that it works on your computer Twisted Metal, since i suppose you own an english localized Windows version. For get them working on my computer, i must edit the strings like this: Filekey1=%allusersprofile%\Dati Applicazioni\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\LOGFILES|.logFilekey2=%allusersprofile%\Dati Applicazioni\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\TEMP|*.*
  7. I don't _want_ nothing, i ask kindly Is not a big deal for me, since usually i build my own winapp.ini, deleting every unuseful entry for my system, adding others, and so on... And replacing this file after installing of new CCleaner releases. But many people isn't aware about all this, wonder if many complaints about CCleaner not working are simply due to different Windows localizations...
  8. Some months ago i had same problems updating Antivir (used Avast for a while), Now problems with updates seem definitely solved You are right. Reports and Events are still listed in Antivir interface, also after deleting an huge log file (it was about 39Mb ). Isn't still clear to me how it works... i'll investigate more... However, i want to say i must always edit almost all strings, in winapp.ini, for make it "italian localized". As said in other message, "Application Data" for me (i mean for my Windows, of course) is "Dati Applicazioni", and "Local Settings" is "Impostazioni Locali". So i need manually give the correct path for each application, in order to get CCleaner working. I have no idea if this is an "issue" that affect some others "not-english" users (french, spanish, germans, and so on... )
  9. This is the current entry in winapp.ini [AntiVir Personal Edition]LangSecRef=3024DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\AVGUARD.exeDefault=TrueFileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\AVTEST|*.*FileKey2=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\FAILSAVE|*.*FileKey3=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\INFECTED|*.*FileKey4=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\LOGFILES|*.*FileKey5=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\SYSSAVE|*.*FileKey6=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\TEMP|*.*FileKey7=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\TESTPATH|*.*FileKey8=%ProgramFiles%\AVPersonal\UPDATE|*.* In this way doesn't work anymore, the new correct reference IMO must be: [Antivir Personal Edition Classic]LangSecRef=3024Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\H+BEDV\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic V 7 Default=TrueFilekey1=%allusersprofile%\Application Data\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\LOGFILES|*d.logFilekey2=%allusersprofile%\Application Data\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\TEMP|*.* Note: The string *d.log is due to the following: In the LOGFILES folder there are 3 saved files, Avguard.log, Sched.log and Setup.log. Not sure if Setup.log is needed for uninstall Antivir, so i prefere leave it alone. If someone can confirm this is very welcome...
  10. This is quite simple. Open the file winapp.ini, in CCleaner folder. The strings between square brackets [ ] are the supported programs names. Note Pay attention, don't edit or change anything in winapp.ini, unless you are sure on what are you doing.
  11. I've looked for PD8 logs everywhere The only log files i found are in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dati applicazioni (eng. Application Data)\Raxco\PerfectDisk\8.0 as said in this post: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=62591 But there is no way to make PD logs empty, neither deleting those two files manually. IMO PD Logs are "internal", hard coded in the program itself. Guess it will be impossibile for CCleaner delete them
  12. I'm only an average user, not a developer, i've said only what i know. AFAIK doesn't exist in the whole world a recovery software (free or for sale) that offers "100% guarantee" of success, as said before. Regarding logs deletion, many applications save their logs in Windows Registry (eg. MRU Lists), and IMHO is not needed clean Registry with 7 or more passes. However, as you know, is always possible restore a "Restore Point" of Windows for get back the whole Registry. So the 1/3/7 passes make sense only in file deletion, IMNSHO. I give up, waiting for some person more computer skilled than me....
  13. Hi, if this happens the first time you use CCleaner, try selecting only few items (2 o 3) in left panel. Plz let me know if this helps
  14. Is happened to me to successfully recover some pics, from an HD of a friend of mine, that were deleted 2 o 3 years ago. Fortunately (or... infortunately, from the point of vue of the privacy keeping ) those files were never been overwritten. Sometimes happens also that a recovery of some files deleted yesterday, or also some hours ago, is impossible. This is random... IMHO the point Robin Hickmann miss is that CCleaner is not builded as a "privacy keeper" software. But Robin is not totally wrong, the definition secure deletion can involve a false feeling of... total security in Users. Maybe "strong deletion" or "deep deletion", or something like this, can be better definitions for the "3/7 passes" feature of CCleaner.
  15. My english is so poor, hope it will be at least a bit understandable When we "delete" something from the Hard Disk, we simply "say to Windows" that the space and that clusters now are free, and freely rewritable. Nothing is really deleted (or "wiped off from disk surface", as many people think), indeed the deleted stuff become only "invisible", "inexistent", "ignored" for the S.O. This is the typical Windows behavior in Windows environment, don't depends from CCleaner or any other softwares. The purpose of recovery softwares like Recuva is to find and recover that "invisible" stuff. Obviously, more times that "virtually free" space has been rewritten (saving new files on it), and more difficult become the recovery, for Recuva or for other applications. But "difficult" doesn't mean "impossible".
  16. Hi, i think that CCleaner is a cleaner, as its name itself says, and does very well his job, deleting (and not "erasing") all the unwanted crap. Maybe you are talking about "eraser" stuff, that IMHO isn't exactly the purpose of CCleaner, neither using the 7 passes overwriting, AFAIK. Nothing is "securely unrecoverable at 100%", all depends from which tools are used for recover... Just my two cents
  17. Thanks ! I report that the update webpage stills says: You are using version 1.37.456. Congratulations, this is the very latest version!
  18. Not sure if i understand what you mean (my english is so poor) AFAIK in MSN Messenger save or not the history is an user choice. Why CCleaner would override an user choice?
  19. Sorry, i don't agree Usually i run CCleaner from the Recycle Bin right menu (that means 2 clicks only), but regarding the issue section IMO is better if user can always take a look about what is to be deleted, saving (or not saving, at his risk) a backup.
  20. I have a similar issue with 2 registry entries, as described in this post (without answers) i send some months ago. Old Message
  21. This is a (well) known bug. Please read previous messages Waiting for a fix, the solution is DO NOT USE the option "Save all settings to INI file".
  22. The INI file is saved in the CCleaner folder. But, at this moment, because of a bug that will be fixed (i hope) in next release, at restart CCleaner still goes try to read his settings in Windows Registry. IMO, this explain why it loads always the default settings and language (english).
  23. In that dialog box you can only select the cookies you want to keep, and the cookies you want delete. All the work is done from the main window "Analyze / Run Cleaner"
  24. [cut] AFAIK there is no way for CCleaner to delete any file, unless they have some "typical crap" extension (eg. .chk, .tmp .---, .gid, .old, and so on... ) AND/OR they are saved in some "typical crap" folder (eg. \Temp, \Temporary Internet Files, and so on...). Just learned reading the Folder Lock website, that Folder Lock can encrypt *AND/OR* simply hide protected files. If they were hidden, they were hidden for any Windows application, including CCleaner, so it can't delete them for sure, IMNSHO.
