  1. Try System Restore providing you haven't deleted all your recent restore points. Richard S.
  2. I think I've requested this feature last year in my suggestion list. If Recuva could implement RAW recovery then this would certainly make it standout amongst the crowd of other crapware/freeware/trialware/commercialware tools. Richard S.

    Slow Firefox

There are many factors that can influence the speed of web browsers: - poor network connectivity - too many programs pegging the CPU or hung processes - excessive disk activity (virus scanners, defragging etc) Until your have check your system responsiveness it's hard to say what the problem is with Firefox. Richard S.
  6. What appplication are you using to view your videos?? Richard S.
  7. The Celeron brand is Intel's budget line of processors the name can be confusing because it's been used since the time of Pentium II all the way to Core 2 Duo - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celeron The Celeron 331 aka Prescott is comparable to the Pentium 4 processor and thus not supported by Speccy. Richard S.
  8. A bug or more likely a faulty sensor inside the hard drive. Try some alternatives like HD Tune, SIW or Everest Home Edition and see if your problems still persist. Richard S.
  9. Speccy uses WMI Classes to extract CPU temperature this method isn't compatible with older Pentium 4 or Celeon (old) processors. To read their temperature would require access the SMBus and probing the appropriate registers which should be easy to code Considering the number of other programs that support these CPUs e.g. SpeedFan and Everest Home Edition it would be rather disappointing for Speccy not to support such old basic hardware. Richard S.
  10. Defragger seems to have a habit of hanging when you're column sorting entries i.e. size in forward and reverse order. I suppose sorting a large number of entries would take a certain amount of time but this behaviour never happened with earlier versions of Defraggler. Now I discovered another interesting trick which could also causes Defraggler to periodically hang. First "Analyse" the Hard Drive, then go to "File list" and click on a file to display the cluster allocations. Open an application like notepad and make maximise so it's totally obscured the Defraggler window. Now minimise the application and you'll find that Defraggler becomes unresponsive for about 10secs - 2mins (the duration isn't consistent and doesn't always trigger). The Process Explorer graph shows the following: red (kernel time) and cyan shows I/O activity the large block at the start is disk read activity. I've hung Defraggler twice, this is showed by the green spike at the centre and at the end of the graph with no disk activity. I'm not sure what's causing the hangs but it's interesting to note that in both cases the RAM usage increase and decrease while putting notepad on top and behind Defraggler. I've also tested Defragger on another machine, and I get hangs too but not as severe as my main machine. Has anyone else noticed periodic hanging while using Defraggler?? Richard S.
  11. Optimization defrag?? as far as I'm aware Defraggler doesn't have any optimisation options. Richard S.
  12. You cannot defrag a network drive because it's not possible to get physical access to the drive's file system. The only way around this would be to run defragging software on the server machine via a remote desktop connection. Richard S.
  13. There is one last program you could try it's a disk repair utility called MHDD. Fortunately you don't need to download and burn a copy since it already exists on the Hiren's CD. -Boot the Hiren's CD -Select Dos Programs, Hard Disk Tools, MHDD 4.6 and let it auto detect stuff first. When MHDD is running you need to select the hard drive device this should be: 1 At the MHDD> prompt type "scan" (without quotes) and enter. A box appears with some numbers, press cursor down to "Remap" and hit space bar so it's set to "ON". When you're ready press Ctrl + Enter or F4 to start the scan and repair procedure. This process could take as long as 5 hours depending on the number of damaged sectors that need relocating. After MHDD has finished scanning I would recommend a rescan to capture any possible bad sectors that haven't been detected from first run. Once you're done with MHDD, restart Mini XP and try to run chkdsk.exe as I had suggested in my previous post. Richard S.
  14. At the desktop double click on "My Computer" if all you see is "Hard Disk Drives" B: and X: then the laptop hard drive is probably dead or has no valid partitions. If you run "HBCD Menu" from the desktop there are some Hard Disk and Partition Tools you could run to determine the condition of the hard drive. Richard S.
  15. Boot the CD, select "Mini XP" and let Windows load. When you're at the desktop "Start", "Run", cmd.exe A black box with white text appears, you enter the following: chkdsk.exe c: /f exit Richard S.
  16. Try the portable build - http://www.piriform.com/defraggler/download/portable RIchard S.
  17. Registry defraggers do not remove anything they rebuild the registry hives from scratch by reading the registry recursively and writing to a new file. Since this process would ignore the gaps left behind from old deleted keys the end result would be registry files smaller than their originals. Richard S.
  18. http://www.elgoog.org.uk/ (: better one this like I Richard S.
  19. I won't buy any lossy-(compressed but not quite the original) rubbish unless it's FLAC or some other lossless compression format or Audio CDs. Richard S.
  20. It's generally not a good idea to mess around with the entirety of the system registry because it's the most important part of the Windows Operating System. Also you'll not see any noticeable speed or performance gain by defragging the registry data a machine will only gain speed and performance from a properly defragged file system. Richard S.

If you cannot mount a cellphone like a regular flash drive then Recuva cannot recover deleted files. Richard S.

    Feature requests

    - Add tempture reading support for Pentium 4 Processors - Fix the rounding error for RAM in the summery section e.g. 1280MB != 1.3GB (1280 / 1024 = 1.25GB) Do the coders read this forum page?? Richard S.
  23. If I recall correctly switching to full screen mode causes the graphics card to switch to a lower resolution. It's possible the video mode used for full screen isn't compatible with your monitor. Richard S.
