It's wonderful that you solved your problem - using ccleaner no less - however, there's no need to post in a nearly decade old thread with a disjointed cryptic message for using a method not in ccleaner at the time of the thread. Please do not continue with such behaviour. thank you.

You need to tell it the root folder to the restored files which will be grouped in the folders of origin (for those files that Recuva can discern the folder). DO NOT RESTORE TO THE ORIGINAL ROOT FOLDER, doing so will likely make some of the files won't be salvageable. Don't even save it to the same drive as the same consequences are in play.

Without a backup, there's not much you can do sorry to say. That's why it's offered and why you're given a second chance during the clean for you to keep the current item for each found entry. In the future, when using registry tools, it's good to follow the guide in my signature below

Very few people bought legitimately cd versions. Iirc those were sold at frys or compusa or somewhere limited so I doubt that very many are in the same boat as your lifetime license cd.

@Bethy54 usually this occurs when internet explorer, or a program that uses ie to work, is still open. Do you have any programs or win7-gadgets running when you try the clean?

I believe waterfox is already cleaned via the firefox section of ccleaner. Maybe you need to enter a custom location https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/advanced-usage/ccleaner-ini-files/how-to-clean-user-data-from-non-standard-mozilla-browsers Works with chrome (including its children) and opera as well as firefox (and clones). Just use CHROME or OPERA instead of FIREFOX.

I believe brave is cleaned by it's parent-brower's ccleaner rules. Brave is a chrome child I think.

What antivirus do you use? Have you tried the slim version? https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds What build win10? Latest push doesn't really mean anything, my computer has it's latest push as of thursday and is still 1803.
