    Registry

Additionaly to Dennis's post. After scanning for issues you can right click each item found and select 'Open in Regedit' where you can either modify or delete the key/value.
  3. Maybe I should have said, your proposed winapp2 entry would work also for Vista since the key dosent exist under HKCU. But does exist under HKLM as you pointed out. Actually now that I am looking at it a second time I believe a pipe is missing. [Direct Draw API]Deleted by Disk4mat
  4. From winapp.ini (embedded) Assumes the registry key "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common" exists. You'll know if it does as a check mark for Office XP will be present on the Application tab in CC. [Office XP]Deleted by Disk4mat
  5. That was pretty good! Glad you got that resolved.
  6. Ive been using CC with IE8 Beta 1 and 2 and havent had a problem with cookies to delete vs cookies to save. It also depends on which items your cleaning in the IE section of CC. We've established when deleting index.dat files you lose logins via cookies.
  7. "I'm sure it's just a registry error(hopefully?), which program will work under the XP registry though?" None that I know of. Do you have another user account in XP to try logging into? There were trojans? I would take advantage of Vista being functional and backup any important files from the XP install. "also tried the reinstall cd to repair but that option isn't there" See this page http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm#RI You want to install. Windows setup will detect a previous installation and at that time allow you to repair it.
  8. I dont know of any quick cures. Since other user accounts work and your able to login to Windows, I would say that there is a problem with the HKCU registry hive. Could also be due to multiple files having been removed from your user profile. Create a new user profile. Logon and copy your personal files from the old non-functional profile into your new one. The important thing is to rescue your personal stuff. Bookmarks, documents, email etc. Might also be a good idea to backup those files to another location just to be safe. In the end you'll have to reinstall a few apps. The %UserProfile% variable being changed makes sense. Are you trying to login to the non-functional account? Aside from running CC what else did you do durring that session? How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555473
  9. CC willl run for the current user of the OS. In other words, there is no way (that I know of) to runn CC from Vista and have it 'work' with registry hives for an XP install. When booting into XP have you tried 'last known good configuration'? At what point durring the boot process are you having a problem?
  10. I go back to Win 3.1 and it was only several months ago I also googled AFAIK.
  11. Confirmed on Vista Buseiness x86 SP1. Only happens when using the scoll wheel. Otherwise when using the scrollbar I get a white space instead.
  12. AFAIK hotfixes have changed to the degree that there is no longer a separate uninstaller for each fix.
  13. hazelnut made some good suggestions. The event viewer may provide some clues. So when you say your still encountering startup problems, you mean freezing etc as described in the first post? I was under the impression that was resolved by reloading the OS (as per support). I must have misunderstood. You could also try using MSCONFIG to disable additional startup items for TS. Just for reference, you could image the drive your self. As a free option you could use DriveImage XML: Http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm There is Acronis True Image and Symantec's Ghost (not free) http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage http://www.symantec.com/norton/ghost
  14. Well there sint anything that jumps out at me. The majority of items CC finds are recently used files and temporary internet files. Some logs (most look familiar to me). Unless someone else spots something in that list of importance, I dont see why cleaning those files would prevent the OS from loading. If you dont use drive imaging you might consider it. If the system is important enough for drive encryption, then the data has value and should be secured in both aspects. There are both free and paid applications out there. Since you've already re-installed Windows its hard to determine what hosed it. Are efforts are probably better spent dealing with your IE issue.
  15. You might run CC and perform an analysis. Right click in the list of files found and select 'save to text file'. This way we can have some insight at least regarding 'whats being removed upon cleaning'. Windows freezing durring the animation. At this time Windows is loading drivers and services. Since you cant boot into safe mode, I am inclined to say its related to GuardianEdge. IE error. We would need some additional specifics on that. The error could be the result of a partialy installed plugin or any number of things come to mind. We have GE, SAV, AVG, SpyBot... Any other applications running at startup that arent part of the OS?

  17. Your AVG entry looks ok. Here are the entries for AdAware (from embedded) [Ad-Aware SE Personal] LangSecRef=3024 [Ad-Aware SE Professional] Deleted by Disk4mat [Ad-Aware SE Plus] Deleted by Disk4mat
  18. The URL that CC launches for me is: http://www.CCleaner.com/update/?v=2.12.660&l=1033 (Where v= the version of CC and l= installed language) What if you were to try the page without parameters? http://www.CCleaner.com/update There isnt much to the page itself aside from some JS. There are a couple ads that dont display for me as I added the domains to my restricted zone in IE. Which reminds me. Are you using any sort of ad blocker?
  19. Are you using IE or a different browser? When you say it freezes, does the browser stop responding or the page dosent finish loading?
