  1. Thanks for that interesting read Humpty. While I agree 110% that she knows exactly what she is talking about, I sometimes get just a bit peeved when experts start saying we shouldn't use this or that, or that this or that approach is useless against the latest group of nasties. The vast majority of users have neither the technical know how or knowledge to use anything other that what is on offer to us. Solutions that most experts suggest are ones that can only be implemented by experts. She is in the great postition of being able to totally clean her system without using software because she is an expert -we are not.
  2. Hello ksknives, here are two links which will give you a good idea of the basics. http://www.webmasternow.com/copyandpaste.html http://members.aol.com/jaynecg/private/copy.html
  3. Hello Arizonabay, I remember your original post as it was an unusual situation to occur, losing stuff in the quantites you did. I understand why you feel a bit bitter but if you look at it from another point, you had used ccleaner for some time without problems therefore it was somewhat logical to assume that there was another cause. I don't think that people laughed at you, most people understand how distressing your situation would be. It was fortunate for people like you and fellow users of ccleaner that someone was able to work out what the cause was. I know quite a few people here tried to work out what had happened, although it may not have seemed like that at the time to you. Were you able to work out why yours had changed? Anyway Arizona, please feel free to stick around the forum you will be most welcome
  4. Heugh, do you have ccleaner set to run at startup? Also welcome to the forum
  5. Is this what has happened to you? If so, I think you can regard it as a false positive.
  6. If you look again at johnr's post you will see he has already tried that, which is why I have suggested he reinstalls over the top of the one has has to try and fix the uninstaller.
  7. Sometimes the toolbar can be removed by redownloading it and then uninstalling. A corrupt uninstaller sometimes prevents uninstall. Welcome to the forum by the way!
  8. Have you opened your volume control panel and checked to see that none of the mute boxes are ticked? ( I know it's an obvious one, but sometimes we overlook them!) If you are using WMP to play them, open it, tools, options, file types tab, and make sure MIDI is ticked.
  9. Hello eskiboy and welcome to the forum. It may be an idea to post a hijackthis log in the part of this forum which deals with them. Instructions how to do one can be found here http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1720
  10. I think that the fact you are able to save your settings using a new user profile must mean there is a problem with your current one. This is not an area I would care to make suggestions on. I found this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151 But would suggest you wait until someone more knowledgable than me in this area gives a few ideas. I take it you ran ccleaner under the new profile without problems?
  11. Hello ScottG and welcome to the forum. I have IE 7 and my favourites are saved in alphabetical order okay. In ccleaner under windows I don't have "delete index.dat files" or "autocomplete form history" ticked
  12. Just thinking of other ideas, such as what happens when you start in safe mode? Also if you create a new user, log off and then log in as the new user?
  13. Here is a 6 page instruction written very clearly, it's worth a read if nothing else as it does explain quite a lot, simply. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/install_suse.html
  14. Hello dickj and welcome to the forum, It has been discussed quite a lot on this forum recently and unchecking "delete index.dat files", and not having ccleaner run at startup while using IE 7, will solve the cookie problem for now until ccleaner becomes fully compatable with it.
  15. I take it this is what you were talking about tvulcan http://dougknox.com/ Perhaps you could just try this and reboot? As it says, it cannot do any harm even though you say yours already displays this.
  16. Just in case anyone needs to do this, you have to uninstall IE 7 first or Internet Explorer won't work, see here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917964
  17. The only thing I have read is on this page about half way down, but it may be a bit of what others have already said, I don't know. http://pcworld.com/article/id,126116-page,...nt/article.html
  18. Sorry Andavari, I worded that wrong. When I plugged the webcam in, the box came up to say windows firewall had been turned off.
  19. I have to decide now which anti-virus to use, so this thread is interesting to me. My year's free CA antivirus has only 14 days left to run so I will have to make a decision soon. CA (formerly etrust) has caused no problems but now intrudes a lot with full page reminders of how many days left I have, and to pay for my next year, although it doesn't do this when using opera!!
  20. I plugged in my logitech webcam yesterday to talk to my grandaughter and windows firewall promptly send a warning that it had been turned off!!
  21. I meant AntiSpyware and frevries has added a bit more info. It's a worrying problem.
  22. In case anyone gets this error message when using CA Antispyware 2007 and trying to open or install spywareblaster, "This program has been damaged, possibly caused by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it." This apparently is caused by CA AntiSpyware 2007 and people are being encouraged to email CA in order to try and get them to do something about it as it is making spywareblaster impossible to run.
  23. Just a few things that may make you smile a little http://www.tallrite.com/LightRelief/food4thought.htm
