    Nice list

Yes, it is sensible to check what you download first. I challange you to a tuxracer competition from there rridgly!!
  4. Unfortunatly I am not able to make out the words on your download ( don't know if others can) Is it possible for you to post a screenshot instead. ( If you are not sure how to do this, just ask)
  5. Well done on narrowing it down to 3! Would you post the full names of the 3 real player files and I would think someone would be able to hopfully give you some advice. P.S. welcome to the forum

    Nice list

Nice list here of free apps with links to other things. On the right under recent comments I spotted a write up on Recuva, the new brother for CCleaner. http://www.winaddons.com/top-300-freeware-software/

    Memory Tip

I guess I'll just stick with running a memory scan in avg antispy. Kills 2 birds with one stone.

    Memory Tip

Here is a link, not tried it though http://www.trap17.com/index.php/memory-tri...-xp_t38816.html
  9. Glad to hear you're sorted now
  10. Not too many ideas I'm afraid, here are a couple of pages http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000726.htm http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000726.htm Also have you IE7 and the .NET 2 framework?
  11. A couple of things you could try. Go to control panel> network connections and make sure your old ISP is deleted there. In Outlook Express go to tools> accounts > mail tab, and make sure your new provider is the default and delete the old one if still there
  12. At the moment I am using an Online Armour firewall I am beta testing for them. The build I am using now, kernel mode with the usual bits and pieces, is fast, light and I like it a lot.
  13. In the article here http://blogs.chron.com/helpline/archives/s...ernet_explorer/ there are 2 paragraphs you might find interesting. One is called "Getting rid of ISP branding" (is this the little tool you used?) The other is below it called "missing the back button" and explains how to get rid of buttons you don't want. Perhaps it may help
  14. No problem Jack, glad you got it sorted.
  15. Hello Micheal and welcome to the forum Have you had a read here? http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=5707

    Ie7 Pro

I agree, nice addition to IE7. I use opera so haven't really had the forum access problems some of you seem to have had with FF. It's true, once you start using "extra features" in a browser you really don't want to be without them. I love being able to highlight a word or phrase in opera, and then right-click>search with google. Saves so much time.
  17. Fascinating link TM. Here's a little bit more I found. http://didierstevens.wordpress.com/2006/07...8217;re-joking/
  18. I know you are still having problems acccessing this forum so perhaps with this other problem it may be an idea to post a hijackthis log in the HJT log analysis part of the forum, just to discount malware first. In case you haven't done one before here is a link Dennis http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1720
  19. Reinstalling can be horrifying experience when you are a new computer user. Knowledge is low and panic can set in. That's when forums can be a helpful place
  20. AVG antispy is good, it's as simple as that. Works for me and I have bought it 2 years running (this year with a discount for renewing, only cost me ?11 or 21 US dollars)
  21. After switching from CA (formely Etrust) to Avast, I must admit I am quite used to it now and have found it to be good on my system. I think that people's systems can determine how good an app works for them. So sometimes a really good app gets a bad write up simply because it doesn't gel with the users apps and specs.
  22. You never waste anybodys time cowboy, in fact someone could come along, read this post and know what could be causing the same problem on their computer
  23. Perhaps homey, not a lot of people on the forum have vista and then are trying to have it run at startup. Also remember Vista is not yet at full release date. Questions are usually answered quite quickly on the forum, this one obviously doesn't apply to a lot of people. I presume this is the behaviour you are talking about > Windows Vista specific functionality Windows Defender in Windows Vista automatically blocks all startup items that require administrator privileges to run (this is considered a bad behaviour for a startup item). There is no known easy way to automatically unblock these items, the only suggestion given is to "contact the software vendor for an updated version" which is Vista compatible (does not require administrator privileges to run). This automatic blocking is related to the UAC (User Account Control) functionality in Windows Vista, and requires the user to manually run each of these startup items each time they log in. If there is no updated version of the startup item, the only currently known way to circumvene this behavior is to disable UAC altogether (since this is also a UAC related functionality, disabling Windows Defender while not disabling UAC will not solve the issue).
  24. It is incredible that the thread link I posted about this http://www.dylangreene.com/blog.asp?blogID=371 has been going on for over 2 years (and is still a live thread) about the same problem. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves
