  1. This video tells you. Note to only move things over to the new account that you need.

I would hope that you have some kind of system image in place before doing this, and checked that the new user account you made is working okay.

Well, I ran tweaking.com, fixed permisions, and nothing with CC has changed. Any moresuggestions?

    TIA

It's tricky when the machine is not in front of you :(

Because CC works when you run it from a new user it's obviously something to do with the user account that you have now.

One way would be to copy your user profile documents to your new user.

EDIT.. Did you use a new download of CC to test it with?

  3. File permissions are what says who can do what with a file. What access rights they have with files, and the permissions they have with them.

That piece of software (Windows Repair) puts the file permissions that your user account has screwed up back into order.

You can just select to do only that using the tool as shown in that video I linked to.

  4. You can always run Tweaking.com Windows Repair (the free version). It is a well know piece of software.

Boot into Safe Mode and elect the preset for File Permissions if that's all the issue seems to be.

This will give you an idea of what the program can do, so it should help to watch it.

Good question. I wasn't running the cleaner or the browser, unless the latter was running in the background. (Just now I heard my hard drive spinning a couple of times, for maybe five to ten seconds each time. All I was doing was typing.)

Try looking in the browser settings for one that says something like ''continue running background apps when the browser is closed'' If ticked, untick it, close and then reopen the browser.

Sometimes I notice that my computer is slowing down, and I can also hear the hard drive spinning for a few seconds. So I open the Task Manager to see what's holding things up, and there are about a hundred items listed. Right now I can see CCleaner listed seventeen times. Will it help to close all the CCleaner icons and just leave one?  What else can I safely close to speed things up? Thank you for your help.

Are you talking about CCleaner itself or the CCleaner browser?
